My 8th solo game: A tender talk of love and friendship set in the Gaeltacht in 1900s Ireland. Dedicated to my grandad, a native Irish speaker.
Made for the Narrative Design Awards game jam, with key music by Dean Walsh & Pietro Baldisseri. I believe that it's also the first game set in Corca Dhuibhne (West Kerry Gaeltacht). Happy to be corrected on that!
It meant a lot to me to write about this fictionalised version of Baile na nGall, but also to dedicate it to my grandad, as he was raised there.

rte.ieThis is what my first solo game looked like in the backend
Made in Twine (Harlowe), it was a choice-based game that was well-received and very Irish. For this, I was learning everything from scratch, which for me made it extra fun. Having shipped two commercial games with indie studios as a producer, I've found that my background in production has definitely helped in being able to scope out things well. Very unafraid to cut and very unafraid to get feedback.
Plus I have a background in writing which helped too!
Since then, I've made 7 more games solo and currently in the middle of a game jam. Basically, don't be afraid to make things even if they're unpolished and seek feedback for everything. Feedback is nothing personal about you; it's just their opinion, and that's how we get better.
