y’allllll it’s getting insane 😭

last year i wrote a blogpost called “The Great Love Island Psychosis of 2025” and I genuinely never thought it would get as bad as it did last year, but I think we’re getting there…

s7 was very much a war between women who liked olandria/chelly and women who liked huda.. it was sinister but this year feels worse because men are watching the show now and it is gradually devolving into a full blown gender war (& also a rift within the black community).

i enjoy love island and i have watched it for a decade now but the last two years have filled me with rage and the toxic-ness of the online discourse is drowning the enjoyment of the show. it’s tough to go online and see men defend KC’s actions & in the same vein it’s tough to see KC getting dog-pilled on by the entire globe (including corporate america).

i’m unsure where the balance or line is but i do know that people have killed themselves because of this show and whilst I don’t like KC, I think the amount of vitriol is getting to a point.

do i think his actions on the show have been disrespectful and in some cases harmful to Aniya? yes. do i think Aniya could’ve handled certain situations better? yes. do i think Kc & Corbin display signs of red pill/podcast bro logic? yes. but.. do i think kc is 22 & with therapy, learning and accountability, he can be better? also, yes.

i think the amount of men defending his actions and dogpiling and bullying aniya is making KC seem more demonic than he actually is. if only women were watching this show, i do not think the hate against KC would have reached this point but it’s escalated bc of what ppl are doing and saying in his name.

i think he has the tendency to be pretty mean, avoidant and flippant but i don’t think he’s the worst person on that show (sincere is), let alone in the entire love island history. all of this to say, we are extremely critical of these folks on our screen to the point of pure dehumanization & i want to implore every one of us to do some soul searching in how we approach these convos because it is really getting to the point that we are losing our minds and to some extent our souls.

i’ve seen people call for Aniya to be beat up, for KC to die & for many more terrible things and i just have to ask: at what point do we become worse than the people we are criticizing? enjoy the show, have measured discourse but also please touch grass, go outside & breathe bc it’s still just a tv show at the end of the day.

s7 was a fever dream bc casa had no stakes, half the fandom was in active psychosis searching for nicolandria crumbs & the other half were engaging in race & gender wars.

i’m worried we are currently heading to that direction & it’s the producers fault because they are giving us TOO much power and it disrupts the organic flow of vibes in the villa. they have GOT to stop letting us couple people up and limit the votes to match-making for bombshells to take ppl on dates.

because we got a vote to choose which couples to break up, we are currently mad that our decision was ignored by the islanders but regardless of what we think about the islanders, they aren’t sims and are gonna want to go where their heart takes them. andrea was able to break rob. and leah up bc she went on ONE date outside the villa with him. seeing him CHOOSE andrea was more cathartic than watching us attempt to break melanie by coupling sincere up with sol.

now we wanna punish the islanders for not exploring, not sticking with the vote we made for them or just don’t doing what we want them too. this isn’t how love island is supposed to work.

i don’t blame anyone for voting sol and caleb, i think it’s insane to tell ppl how to vote lmao, but the more power producers give us, the more power hungry we become & the more we punish islanders for not doing what we want instead of voting for the actual premise - love , connections & etc. this makes the show fraught with tension, bad vibes and fear bc the couples are hyper aware that WE can separate them whenever we want if they don’t do what we want, making them less likely to step on toes in order to not piss off America.

sol and caleb are not entertaining villa personalities unfortunately & leaving them in the villa over a romantic couple is going go affect casa. i am warming up to gabrielle but him and jen are likely gonna leave (which is fine, but it would be infinitely more interesting to see if gabrielle still keeps on kissing girls in casa after sleeping with jen than see caleb/sol try to find connections in casa. that’s creating 2 new potential couples that we have no investment in taking up screen time DURING casa or they just make them disappear into the background

either way everyone just needs to relax omg. the stan wars, parasocial insanity (as usual) & generally ridiculous expectations for a bloody tv show that is meant to be entertainment is getting ridiculous 😂😂

ALSO, we gotta retire “bird” “boy-mom” “male-centered” at some point, it’s just starting to horseshoe back into misogyny. it kills me that people are looking for “non-birds” on the bird and pick me show .. the moral ground standing gets to a point .. 🫩

i may stop watching this season soon (mostly bc the discourse is irritating as hell) but also because the producers have no idea what they are doing with the islanders.

firstly, WHY do they keep on sending the bombshells in freaky situations??? first, the threesome bed with gabrielle and kayda, then sending in corbin to kiss the girls mid challenge & then sending in jen sol and caleb during the orgy challenge.

i am extremely sex positive as a person but i just can’t help but side eye the producers for the sexual obsession this season. even in today’s first look we’re getting the same slime, kiss and food gag. i miss old love island when bombshells would come in and immediately choose 2 islanders for a date. i miss when producers would send two girls that are not in a good place on a girls day to hash out their problems (that would’ve been perfect for sol and melanie to compare notes and help sol with integrating into the villa).

all in all the season seems to be confused & focused on getting insane sexually charged scenes for shock value rather than carefully curating actual interesting moments and conversations.

also regarding sol melanie and sincere:

2. bad for sol and i think she’s getting the shorter end of the stick (mostly bc of sincere and producers), but i also think she needs to also put effort into integrating into the villa like jen clearly has and like kayda was successfully able to do. kayda and melanie had a disagreement and they’re friends now, and even when they were disagreeing kayda still had friends in the villa so it can’t all be one persons fault that sol is isolated.

also, in previous seasons, bombshells would pull the person coupled up with their connection to just have a chat and clear the air to reduce awkwardness. i personally think melanie should’ve done that by now (& i don’t think the challenge was an opportune time to do bc tensions were high), but im also shocked that sol hasn’t pulled melanie or ANY of the girls. like, yes you don’t owe them anything but also can’t be shocked when they act like they don’t owe you anything either? i want her to have a good time irregardless and i hope producers step in with more things to help her build bonds with others in the villa

2. people are too harsh on melanie. imo, she really hasn’t done anything that severe. her worst crime is being childish and immature and im sorry everyone has insecurities so im not gonna villainize someone who’s worst crime was pin ponging two men during a challenge. yes, shes a male centered 24 y/o on a male centered show, how shocking 😭 all the girls show signs of pick me behavior in varying degrees (except kayda, to some extent trinity & jen so far), i think melanie is just the loudest & proud abt it. my least favourite mel moment was the “i got my man back haha” bc girl.. what?? if i was sol i woulda burst out laughing in their face bc they’re both silly for that. but i also dont think melanie is consciously “isolating” sol. if she was badmouthing her consistently, they would obviously show scenes of that because the mean girl drama has proven to bring them a lot of viewers! people are formulating narratives that haven’t been shown to get mad at and it’s a bit odd? the boys barely like melanie so why would they be overly going for her during the pie challenge? sol cried after being slammed by zach who has criticized melanie multiple times and it’s somehow melanie’s fault too? i think huda traumatized folks last year so ppl are overcorrecting now, but nothing melanie has done strikes me as scary or dangerous as hudas crashouts

3. the only true villain in this situation is sincere. absolutely nothing he has done is defensible. he lies as easy as i shit when i have diarrhea & it’s scary 😭 but in his moms tiktok live, i could sense that avoidance, people pleasing & lying were the tools he used to placate her intenseness but he needs to be an adult

4. i like all the girls and i wish them the best and i think viewers could watch the show with a bit more grace
