Hi all I’ve only gotten gel nails a couple times. There are bubbles and they look bad to me. But I need y’all’s expertise. Also yes my fingers are bad, I’m an anxious girlie and have been picking at them, hence the manicure for a bit of a pick me up. I went to a new nail place with a friend and didn’t see the poor job until after I paid and tipped. What should I do? Am I being too particular?
It’s 6 watts, is that strong enough? I have a SunUV lamp for full curing, but I am wondering if this would suffice for flash curing. I found this in my room and I really don’t wanna buy a new flash lamp lol.
Hey everyone i have an issue of gelx and builder gel popping off within 2 days. I do litrally every step that I've been told/seen on videos. Even googled things but they still pop off. Also what glue/uv glue do you guys recommend!
The steps I do:
Push back cuticle
Diamond bit to remove cuticles
File 240 sanding band
Remove cuticle
Brush dust off/Cleanser to remove dust
Use ph bond and primer
Rubber base
Builder gel or gelx
What am I doing wrong

For the gold relief: Is it done with a thick building gel/hard gel and then rubbed with chrome powder, or is there a specific 3D metallic gel that gives this 'liquid metal' look? How do you seal the chrome so it doesn't chip off the 3D edges?
I’ve tried so many “clear” cat eye gels but they all seem to leave an unattractive, dirty shadow color when used over another color. The magnet part is pretty, but the residual color aside of the magnet shine is so not pretty!
Perhaps I’m doing it all wrong. I’ve watched endless tutorials of people layering cat eyes and they always look amazing. Is there a technique to this process that I’ve failed to see?
I was convinced it was the cheaper Amazon cat eyes, but my Kokoist watery clear cat eye does the exact same thing.
Please help! 😩
i’ve been doing my gel x at home for about a year now and i have so many extra tips that don’t fit my nails and they’re just collecting dust. any tips (haha) on how to repurpose them/put them to use?
I have a few questions. When doing 3D chrome designs, all the videos I’ve watched so far say I should flash cure, then apply the chrome. Does sculpting gel actually fully cure once I put it in the big lamp after applying chrome? I was wondering this when I did my first chrome design, but I plan on doing chrome for my next set and wanted answers.
Ignore the cuticles, it's been 3 months since I did my last set 😅
Hello! I dont have patting gels, so im trying to ombre with just normal gels. I tried a few different methods, putting wet gel of different colors on both sides and ombreing them while wet, I tried doing a full base color and ombreing the second color on top of that, and a mixture of both. Everything is coming out streaky. Im wiping my brush between strokes. I tried using an ombre brush and a flat rounded tip brush. Any suggestions? Is thus just as good as it gets without pat gels or airbrush?
I used some dnd and some gel monsta gels
Here are my latest nails - a vacation set that was *supposed* to be both hands full out, but I got sick and had to go to urgent care (they fixed me right up!) so I only really did my non-dominant hand.
No gatekeeping:
Après long natural stiletto tips, non wipe extend gel, & gel couleur in Purple Moon, DVOK unicorn magnetic gel DM-52, function of vex slick matte topcoat and pressed chromes in champagne gold and amber sheen. Couldn't tell you where all the gems/charms/etc - probably Amazon, Temu or SHEIN.
1st attempt at applying they came before i could base coat, I went back to Sally's and got some better prep (dehydrator, alcohol and wipes, cuticle softener) and I did cuticle prep and used a drill for etching the tips and i filed to my nail size. So far they've held up for over 3 days but ive also been super careful.
Im using dashing divas kit from Sally's and dnd polishes. They aren't really lifting up but I feel like my R pointer feels "loose" (last pic) , any advice?
I finally nailed solids and retention. Making my way into simple art. Really into this cat eye watermelon for summer. Happy nail day everyone.
I just started doing gel X and trying to figure it out. I still struggle with cuticles 😭are these as bad as I think they are in my head? Also what could be fixed to make them not look so “diy”?
Hi! I’ve been doing Gel-X on myself for about 2 years now. I’ve done a lot of research and even spoken to a few nail techs about my lifting issues, but I’m still struggling.
My sets usually last around 10–12 days before I start getting lifting at the cuticle, and eventually some nails will pop off. It’s pretty discouraging because I spend a lot of time on them, and I’d really like to get to at least 3 weeks with no lifting.
The nail techs I spoke to suggested adding a thin layer of Gelish Soft Gel Tip Adhesive on my natural nail before going in with Aprés Extend Gel, and also curing longer in case my lamp wasn’t strong enough. So I’ve been doing 120 sec cures instead of 60.
Here’s my current routine:
Tips:
After:
Everything feels super solid at first, but the lifting always starts at the cuticle area after about 1–2 weeks (not the sides or free edge).
At this point I’m trying to figure out what I’m missing. Is it more likely a prep issue? Could it be my lamp not curing deeply enough? (Do I need to invest in an expensive one? I only use an Amazon one)
I would truly appreciate ANY insight -- feels like I'm so close but missing something small :)
dnd tea time and dnd fresh linen. took almost four hours and my back hurts
