You Cannot Convince Me These "Professionals" are Real

Because what do you mean you sat down with Felipe, who's about to get MARRIED, and you see dating apps on his phone. And all you do is telling him to delete them?! And he was "kind of reluctant"???

How the hell is that okay? (Rhetorical question - I know they don't actually care about the marriages)

Greenie and Nail Recovery

Hi all! I have been doing my own gel-x nails now for I wanna say almost 2 years. This is the first time I have dealt with a greenie! My index nail when I woke up I could see some discoloration (had on very light polish) and thought it could have been marker since I was coloring the night before and had some pigment on my hands. Well an hour later, the nail popped off (they've been on for 4 weeks w/1 backfill a week and a half ago) and sure enough, my index nail was green. I cleaned with alcohol (I don't have vinegar) and lightly buffed with a brand new buffer and tossed the buffer afterwards. I now have the FAINTEST tint leftover on my index fingernail. I have since removed the rest of the nails, but yesterday was all around a bad day for me, I was overstimulated, tired and didn't want to soak off my nails; so in my ADHD crazed state, I bit them all off. My nails -- surprisingly -- don't look too bad, except the pinky nails did rip just the slightest so they're a little sore.

My question is - what are your best recovery tips to help my nails grow out some so I'm able to do them again? I have a cuticle oil pen in my purse and have been trying to remember to apply it throughout the day. I wash my hands a lot (I work in healthcare) so I'm also trying to lotion up so avoid dry out.

Any advise is helpful!

Also wanted to preface that I have zero pain, swelling or heat on or surrounding the nail.

Nail Lamp Advice

Hi everyone!

I started my Gel-X journey a little over a year ago, and when I started I was in fact that person and got a Beetles kit that included the lamp. After using it twice (with no issue thankfully) and then joining these subreddit groups, I (thought) I upgraded when I purchased this SunUV lamp. I remember seeing nail techs that I've gone to in the past with one and thought it worked well. Well, the last few times I've used it I've had to cure my polish (using Fairy Wings by Apres, a very light color) 90 secs and then again for 30 secs because it still felt a tad tacky.

I am now looking for a professional lamp, but the problem is I keep seeing lamps that are almost $300. I understand that you really don't want to mess around with the lamps and want a good one, but that much right now just isn't realistic for me.

I am now checking out Apres Beta Lamps. They seem to be the most affordable option from a brand that is credible and I love (already use 98% of their polish/tools) and I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this lamp and if it's worth it. What are the pros/cons that you've found with it? This would be my 3rd and I'm hoping last lamp I'll need to buy so soon.

Bonus question - what do I do with the Beetles lamp and SunUV one when I get a new one? I'm assuming I don't just toss them in the trash, and I'd rather not donate them if they're not up to standard (I'm in US btw if that matters)

Thanks all, I've really learned a lot in this group with far less judgment and shame from past groups I tried.

Tips on cuticle work

https://preview.redd.it/bi6zvshjztbh1.png?width=1536&format=png&auto=webp&s=e998e77333f38125fa4a47be1d34e58cee055500

*pic for reference* pls ignore my dry ass hands, I'm using lots of cuticle oil and lotion.

I have been doing my own gel-x now for a little over a year, and I do feel like I'm improving (first time doing any kind of actual "design") but I'm looking for tips to help with the cuticle area and the other all "smoothness" of the nail. I use an art brush dipped in alcohol to help clean up the edges before curing, but it's like it'll look perfect before curing and then by the time I'm done, I can still see polish I missed. Also, a week or so after when it's grown out some I always have to kinda buff the edges to smooth them down.

Any tips are super helpful!!

Anyone know what was going on last night on 99?

We were getting onto Beltline from 99 (going towards Coburg area.. I suck at directions, sorry) but we saw two cop cars under the bridge sitting there with their lights on, and two cops with their lights on once we were on Beltline, one on each side of the bridge. We didn't see any cops out, or people.. it was odd. Does anyone know what happened?

Need Help Navigating the Overwhelming Feeling that Comes with Starting at the Gym

Apologies in advance for the long post, I will try to be as quick and to the point as I can be.

Hi all, I'm just starting in the gym after being pretty stagnant since 2022. I've gained weight, I'm 32(f), type 2 diabetic (managed by diet and metformin, no insulin w/use of CGM), 304 pounds and 5'11". I have an office job and for the first time in my career, my job is not my main form of exercise (I worked in nursing facilities for 10+ years prior as a med tech/caregiver)

I am feeling overwhelmed with starting at the gym and feel like I rushed into working out and don't really know what I'm doing. I have a Planet Fitness membership and have been twice so far. I went on Amazon and splurged on a new workout bag, shoes, outfits, a lock, everything I need for the gym, so I'm fully prepared. I have been doing the treadmill to start for 30mins at a range of 2.5-2.8 speed, and every 10 mins I raise the incline 1. I do have an app called FreeTrainers that is super helpful when it comes to the weight machines and how to navigate them. I'm very interested in weight training since my old nutritionist told me it's great for insulin resistance. But I haven't done weight lifting since high school, and I think I'm pushing myself too hard too quickly.

My questions:

Is it normal to be so sore the day after upper arm/upper core day that it hurts to even pick up my makeup brushes and apply my makeup? I knew I was out of shape, I knew I was overweight but shit. Just taking off my shirt last night lifting my arms, made me want to cry.

How do you find your comfortable rep weight? (if that's even the right term) for example, I did the bicep press machine, 3 sets of 15 at 40pounds. I don't know what's supposed to "feel" right. I know if I'm shaking and sweating at 1, that's probably too heavy and that wasn't happening, but my arms were BURNING at each rep.

Nutrition - getting a nutritionist again isn't an option or in my budget right now, I'm mainly wondering about what I should eat post-workout and what's the best plan for recovery. My budget is super tight, as I'm sure most are, but I am trying my hardest to make food choices that are smart and not undoing the progress I make in the gym. It's hard, because I am neurodivergent and a lot of the healthy foods recommended, I cannot stand the texture (oatmeal, avocado to name a few.. I am trying to force myself into liking them)

Any tips are appreciated. I love reading and watching videos, so any resources are immensely appreciated.

Signed,

an overwhelmed beginner who just wants to feel comfortable in their body

New Planet Fitness on Coburg

Has anyone scoped it out yet? I joined on Sunday since it's in perfect distance between work and home, but I really don't wanna show up with it packed. Knowing this is the first week of it being open, I'm wondering if it's worth waiting another week or so. Mainly looking at the early evening times.

High Reading Shows But Goes Away

I've been using this CGM now for a little over a month (this is my 3rd CGM) and twice now, it has given me an alert for a high glucose (over 200) but when I go into the app and look, it's not there and will show that I didn't have a reading over 170 (for example) my wife got an alert once (she's connected to the app) while I was asleep saying that it was high, but when I looked it didn't show it at all. I looked the other day after getting an alert that it went to 210, but it showed nothing above 180.

Is this a glitch? Was the high readings not real?

I know there’s like a 10-15 mins delay with the CGM but is this normal to be 20 points higher than what the CGM says?
