Difference SIAAR vs Abralon

In looking for new sanding pads I was wondering if there was any significant difference between Siaar or Abralon pads. I do have all Brunswick equipment so I am leaning that way since B6 uses Siarr, but I was wondering with it being so similar in price, if there was something significantly different between them. I also know of the few sites that offer bulk discounts for both as well which I plan to use.

Awesome Old Card Find

Was going through my closet and was absolutely shocked to find this card. This was from a raced used car in 2009 which I believe was the year I started watching NASCAR and become a fan (I was 4y old at the time). Interesting enough as a 4 year old, I started cheering for KB not because of the M@M’s car but because at the time I had a golden retriever and there was a big one on the side of the pedigree car. So as cursed as that sponsor was, that’s honestly why I became a KB fan. Pretty crazy to think that this could legitimately be from the race where my KB fandom and nascar fandom stemmed from.

Also Press Pass is the GOAT.

Custom autograph boards. Final product

Last year I asked in the forum what everyone used to get signed for driver autographs for when I went to Dover for all star race weekend. It’s not like baseball or football where you can sign the ball. Obviously there was helmets and tires too but that’s bulky to carry around all day. Initially I thought maybe a checkered flag but then decided to get creative and make a custom piece. Made 3 separate wood plaques for the drivers to sign based on the series they were racing in. After finally getting a chance to seal the plauqes the final products are shown at the end.

In terms of steps this is what I did.

  1. I got some type of decent sized wood board. (In my case Walmart had a 12 by 16in wood board that did the trick perfectly. Bc it’s Walmart it obviously needed a brush over for sanding before I did anything to smooth it out bc it wasn’t perfect.

  2. I found the logos online and printed them and then used carbon/graphite transfer paper to transfer the design to the board. Once everything was traced onto the board very lightly I used a pencil with more pressure to fill in lines and make an outline for engraving.

  3. This step was def the most tedious and time consuming but it was def worth the time. I took my dremel tool and used different engraving bits to engrave the logos using the traces on the board. There was obviously some uneven cutting so then I used the sanding and brush attachment to smooth it out. Once everything was engraved I took 120 grit sandpaper to get the pencil markings off.

  4. I took a fine point sharpie and outlined the outer parts of the logos to really stand out.

  5. (Another tedious step) but I then painted the logos to match the colors. Had to improvise on parts but Still happy with how it came out. (For the date I actually painted a rectangle and then engraved after the rectangle was dry). Once everything on the board dried I did a very very light sand at about 1000 grit just to smooth the paint out. If there was too much pressure then obviously the paint would be completely sanded off.

  6. Very carefully I took a wood stain and stained where the drivers signed (mental note that stain appears way darker then you think). Glad I went with a lighter color stain otherwise a black sharpie wouldn’t come through. This took I believe 3-4 decent coats with a nice 220 grit between each layer.

  7. Once the stain was completed, I took a clear coat (I believe it was rustolem 2X) and just took a light coat to cover the surface and preserve the paint and stain.

  8. This is where the autographs happened and were signed. Paint pens could work too, but traditional sharpies especially on a bigger board worked as perfect as I wanted. A couple signatures are a bit dull bc the marker gave out but that’s just sharpies in general.

  9. The final step (and another important step) is actually sealing the signatures. This took a lot of research to find a good sealer with the sharpies so they didn’t run or smear. It seems that the best bet is any water based sealer (I used a water based polycryilic from Miniwax) that did a very good with absolutely no smearing whatsoever.

Was very happy with how this came out and I was very happy with this decision especially to have the drivers sign something handmade (The VIP pass for the weekend was my college graduation present so I had many signatures). Many drivers actually commented on it too. On a funny note not sure if each driver has personal photographers or not, but when Gio Ruggiero was signing it there was this photographer who was all over it. To the point where the photographer was basically breathing on my neck. So somewhere there is a close up picture of Gio signing the board lol. Also was quite unfortunate looking back seeing KB’s signature at the time not knowing what would happen less than a week later.

Just wanted to share my product to maybe give some people ideas for handmade things for drivers to sign because most of them definitely enjoyed seeing it.

Methods to make customs

In working on customs I believe I found a much easier way so I’m curious if anyone custom builders have any different methods or approaches.

Normally I would do the typical
-unscrew the chassis
-strip with a paint stripper
-spray paint
-reassemble
-decals
-seal

I have been finding more success doing the following

-strip the paint using a sanding tool (I use a dremel)
-Use acrylic paint to paint the chassis (and tape up things like windshield and tires to not get paint on them)
-decals
-seal
(After about 5min sealed I roll the car on a damp paper towel to smooth the clearcoat on the wheels to keep it rolling).

It saves me time and effort from dissembling and reassembly and also limits the waiting time from the stripper. I also have a ton of issues with reassembly of the cup cars because for some reason I can’t ever get them lined up again.

Busy week upcoming

These decals are the only ones left to crate a full field in both trucks and Oreily for my standings I do with diecast. Obviously exact schemes aren’t updated but I’d rather numbers.

Some are disambled and spray painted and others are stripped with a sander and painted (I didn’t feel like fighting with reassembly of the next gens bc they are impossible for me and my drill died for the last 5).

New decals

Well, I’ll be busy for a while lol. Printed out the decals needed to have a compete field for Xfinity and Trucks and 2 extra cup ones (my favorite KB sponsor) and a 33 scheme (Liked the C4 schemes and also find myself rooting for Jesse a bit).

Future rewards

This is my first year doing fan rewards. Was wondering what stuff could be popping up in the future in terms of rewards. I know everyone talks about the experiences and I thought I remember something about diecasts as well.

KFB

My story with NASCAR is always one that is quite funny. I actually grew up with significant speech and reading delay and I always hear stories of how reading the jayski driver/number/sponsors charts really helped me accelerate and get back to where I should be.

Going back to KB, for some reason (maybe as a 3-4 year old kid), I took a liking to the M&M schemes and Pedigree since I loved dogs and there was a big golden retriever on the COT scheme (my 4 year old logic). So for the longest time I was a KB fan until I kind of lost interest for a few years before getting back into it after Ross’s wall ride and becoming a Ross fan.

I always had a special place for Kyle, and for my college graduation present I got a VIP pit pass for Dover All Star Weekend. So as a 21yr old it was quite awesome meeting my childhood hero at Dover. Was quite upset when I heard the news less than a week later. Cant believe I saw his final bow in person on Friday’s truck race.

Ultimate Fan Pass Review- All Star weekend at Dover

Just finally am setting down after a jam packed weekend. As a College graduation present me and my dad got the VIP Ultimate Fan Pass at Dover. While it was certainly pricey (I believe it was $900 per person). It was truly a once in a lifetime event.

Overall while it is pricey if you really consider it that once in a lifetime experience it is so worth it. I’ve been to a lot of sports VIP things, and this pass is just surreal. To the point where at one point I was leaning against the tires for the teams and another time I was walking with Ricky Stenhouse directly behind me.

Most of the drivers are super approachable. I noticed some will actually stop and sign and others will sign but you have to walk alongside them and keep pace. Throughout the weekend of the 50+ driver interactions I had, there was only 2 bad experiences with drivers, and so many great experiences. Butterbean Queen had a full 5 minute conversation with me, and was one of the most down to earth people I’ve ever met, (along with the entire RAM team), BJ Mcleod and Myatt Snider (who also was my garage tour guide) were awesome, and cup wise Ross and Carson for as popular as they are, made sure to really interact with every fan that wanted too. Coming out of the drivers meeting, everyone else was long gone and Carson was way behind the other drivers just signing autographs for everyone that wanted one.

While there was certainly people there for the autograph hunting, I really don’t think those people will get the full experience. I was in the cup garage when Suarez’s tire flew off in qualifying (also qualifying was absolutely awesome and entertaining as well) and it was so interesting to see how they worked on the car and pulled out the backup. The Garage Tour on Sunday was awesome as well with all of the insights from Myatt (saw the OSS Inspection system and the lasers system associated with it).

The main points I will hit on, is it’s truly impossible to get every signature. If you have a favorite driver and kind of make it a point to get their autograph or a picture, you basically will. Best times for me in terms of autographs were immediately post qualifying in the garage as drivers are walking to haulers and on the grid prior to national anthem. And the only main negative I saw (and that’s not a VIP thing) is there really isn’t seats down in the pit area. You legitimately are standing inches behind pit boxes so as you imagine it a bit crammed. At Dover many people watched from the steep grassy knoll. That legitimately is the only issue I had all weekend with the pass.

Overall while it certainly is pricey, if you consider the unparreled acces you get (in this case for 3 days), it is certainly worth it.

Also a big shoutout to Blaine Perkins and the Jordan Anderson Racing #31 O Reilly team for hooking me with a nice piece of the sheetmetal from the left rear.

Big Prize #2

Won AirPod pros legitimately a day before the prices went up to their current prices last year. Took a break for a few months and then had a friend mention they wish Xbox’s weren’t so expensive since they were still using the old gen console. I took this personally as a challenge to try and win it for below retail and have my friend pay me back the cost of the chips I bought. Grand total was about $200 for a $400 console so I have a happy friend and basically got free entertainment since friend is paying me back. (Plus I hit the 15% level 7 legend bonus in the process too)

6375 chips played in the past year and got AirPod pros, Xbox series s along with little lights for my display. Cant beat that. Thank you pop the lock.

Was wondering if a location will take cards for a game that actually isn’t at that location. I traded some cards (big thanks to @u/tahuynh316 for helping me out) since my local undisclosed location tends to just have Toto’s as every other card on the field and I otherwise had no idea how to get rid of 34 Toto’s. Made some trades for Star Trek stuff but just realized my location dosent actually have the game. Will they still accept them or will I have ti find a location that has the game?
