Just a PSA for newer players, labbing hit confirms and block strings will level you up

Yes, labbing combos is very important too, but you’re going to struggle to land these combos if when you hit your opponent, due to them not blocking, it ends up turning into a auto combo due to lack of training on hit confirms.

You can set your dummy to block randomly. I suggest learning a block string first, I.e. 5L, 2m, 5m, 5h assist + special. Then set the dummy to block randomly. So you’ll start converting these random hits into the juicy combos you’ve been labbing.

This will level you up. I.e. your opponent blocks 5L but doesn’t block low, so you can convert into a normal combos.

Block strings are also very important. This is because you can apply pressure + mixes. Newer opponents will not wait. Often they’ll just mash their invincible or try to mash out of it, but better players will need to be baited and mixed.

Staggers in block strings are also good. If you look at your frame data of your character, you’ll be able to see if you’re safe on block. So you delay the attacks that are safe on block that are able to continue in a block string (I.e 5L delay 5m delay 5h). This will catch out mashers, but once again you need to improve hit confirms to utilise this.

I got absolutely stomped by my friend who plays custodes. Could someone review my new list?

My previous list had breaka boyz and another unit of beast snaggaz. I’m trying squighog boyz as it was recommended to use them as a distraction unit to lure the opponent out. My previous list also didn’t have a trukk. I’m planning to use a trukk to get my flashgitz out to shoot screeners or weaken the enemy. Or to bring the nobz in the trukk, to stage for a waaagh. I was thinking of attaching the painboy to the nobz, but I don’t like how expensive that is for pretty much a hammer unit. I was thinking of changing mozrog to beast boss on a squigasaur and taking follow me lads on painboy (or change for a big mek).

Unit wise I’ve found kommandos and stormboyz able to score secondaries pretty well, but they usually die very fast. Kommandos are also essential imo for move blocking scout and screening.

TIL Barbary Pirates of Northern Africa, for 300 years, enslaved over a million Europeans. Governments often did not fight, as it was just cheaper to pay them. However, enslaving 1000 Americans, caused USA to attack their country. This pressured other countries to attack and end their regime by 1830.

Take and hold disposition seems surprisingly really powerful this edition

I am an ork player and I used War Horde, which has take and hold. My opponent had chaos daemons and had purge the foe. On paper, he should’ve destroyed me primary points wise. I believe you can only get very little primary from purge itself and have to rely on other means to get primary? Not sure if anyone can correct?

We used the official warhammer 40K app to score.

I had a match yesterday and the take and hold disposition seemed surprisingly really powerful in 11e. I actually think it might potentially be more powerful than purge.

For example, I was scoring at the end of my turn and the start of my turn (during command phase, there are so many potential ways to score primaries that you don’t have to focus on turn 1). And due to how many objectives there were on the board, it was really hard for my opponent to deal with everything. It also meant my infiltrators had free points too because you score end of your turn too (3vp max).

How are the chesscom puzzles compared to Lichess?

I’m about 1400 elo for puzzles on Lichess. I think they help at times but often in matches I’m not seeing the tactics apart from obvious checkmates or trying to win material.

How are the chess.com puzzles compared to Lichess in general? Is it just a case of being committed to puzzles and eventually it all clicks?

I think I am improving at puzzles as I initially struggled to beat 1200 elo. I do try to calculate the puzzles too.

I find it interesting how after the more puzzles I do, I’m finding these tactics that I simply wouldn’t consider even a couple weeks ago. I don’t think I even encountered these puzzles on lichess but against my opponents, I was able come up with these strategies and turn a loss into a win because my opponent didn’t see what I was doing (such as pushing pawns while moving the queen, to trap the king). I think initially I just tried to catch people in 2 move checkmates (like bishop + queen) but even at a low elo, people know how to escape that.
