Yue Guang Bai followed by Black Gold Bi Luo Chun from Yunnan Sourcing

I got tea high.

Yue GuangBai, used 7grams on a 150ml gaiwan. It was solid, fruity, thick, herby, and it literally puts you in a very meditative state. Had it while having dinner.

Black Gold Bi Luo Chun, used 6grams same gaiwan. Sweet, heavy, thick, smooth and just right to end my whole day tea'ing session lol.

Finished Maple Tea tray

Curly Maple slab.

I was stuck between buying one off Taobao or making one myself. I couldn't be happier that i made one.

Posting for anyone who loves DIY i spent a total of 4 days from planning, gathering tools and materials, up to finishing the project.

Tools i used was from Fb Marketplace haha.

Cheapo plunge router, sandpaper and oil based Polyurethane for finishing.

Happy tea'ing 🍵

My Tea Session Corner.

I made a dedicated tea session corner in the house.

Table was made from left over 3/4 Maple slab.

Ming Dynasty inspired Rose chair is made from 2x2's i found laying around.

The tea tray is a 2.5 inches slab of Curly Maple maple i got from a closing down wood working shop.

Shelf is made from Padauk thins and Poplar dowels i got from the same wood working shop.

2025 Man Gang Village "Huang Pian" Ripe Pu-erh Tea in my Gaiwan to commemorate completing my setup.

I got clay teapots ordered (the cheap ones because i got kids and my wife will kill me if i spend on "real" ones lol!)

Feel free to bash and critique!

Happy tea'ing!

Assamica Gold Needle

Got it from Yunnan Sourcing.

The pure essence of roasted sweet potatoes.

That's just my take.

Quick steeps at 6-7g on a 120ml gaiwan. Used 190f for temperature is what i found the best temp for my taste.

Yunnan Sourcing Whites.

2026 spring harvest Yunnan Yue Guang Bai Air-Dried White Tea for me and Jasmine Silver Needle White tea for my wife. ( ofcourse i tried em both.)

Yue Guang Bai

-150ml Gaiwan

-6g dry leaves

-15sec first steep

smells like the forest floor 2 days after a heavy rain where everything is moist but not wet (earthy mushrooms everywhere smell)

taste is SWEET, fruitiness in the middle, and some earth tones at the end.

pretty much the most fun I've had in a fresh picked white tea.

Jasmine Silver Needle

-380ml mug

-6g dry leaves

25sec first steep

smells like...... you freakin guessed it! Jasmine!!!

taste is pretty much what you'll expect from a silver needle. Sweet, fruity, minimal herbyness, and thick liquor even tho it's looking clear in my wifes mug. can't say anything bad about it other than it wasn’t my cup.

use 175f temp for your water or lower. better yet use cold water.

9/10 on both teas.

try it! it's good!

Da Hong Pao "Big Red Robe" Wu Yi Shan Rock Oolong Tea From Yunnan Sourcing.

Great dry leaves smell. You really get that sharp roast smell.

150ml Gaiwan 5 grams dry leaves 195f water temp 15-18sec first pour I don't wash coz that's a freakin waste. Like why would i even?

First cup is already strong like a sharp hit on the nose, tongue and yo spirit bro.

ROAST, FRUITY, PARK CHOCOLATE, MINERALITY taste. Literally taste like roasted fruits on a hot stone. Smell reminds me of the first time i burned popcorn in the microwave when i was a kid got an ass whooping coz the house got filled with smoke. After taste is mainly mineral (iron) and a lot of sweetness.

It's great. Try it. 8/10

1995 Green Pu-erh

My fren, life hard? Boss mean to you? Kid's being little shits? You no gelfren? You no boyfren? Don worriiiiii! Tea gotchu!

Aroma: Green forest littered by fallen trees after a heavy rain. Aka wet wood. Or a flooded basement, can also be a soaked 2x2 that yo mama chasing you with after you broke that expensive china she kept on the top of a Hutch.

Taste: wet stone (in case you're wondering, yes i tasted it when i was a kid). Camphor (not the freakin mothballs) just a fresh super minimal minty feeling when you swallow *wink wink. No bitterness whatsoever, ZERO astringency. If you can picture a bland dragonfruit that you yoinked from the fruit stand at the market, that would be it.

Mouthfeel: Thick liquor, super smooth, fresh feeling after a cup, and a satisfying feel.

Strong from the 1st cup after the wash up to the 6th cup. Succeeding cups gives you stone fruit taste, wood, camphor. Sweetness actually gets wilder after the 7th cup.

Hope everyone's having a great day!

Made my own tea corner.

Ming style Rose Chair inspired, and a Maple table top (ignore the electric razor) on a stainless steel legs that i found in the dumpster (lol).

Table top is finished with matte oil based polyurethane.

Chair is made of SPF 2x2's kiln dried. Will be sanding and polishing the whole thing to give it a "vibe" haha.

Then off to making tea and enjoying my tea sessions. ☺️

Shi Feng Dragonwell

After battling it out with your kids and the post partum wife, all you can do now is have a little snack, check the pumidor, choose the victim, crack open that mason jar and sniff the heck out of it instead of air oxidizing your loose leafs, do it yourself. Boil some water from Mississippi river, pull out that Gaiwan yo grama gave you, that crackle cup that won't show them lines no matter how much you try to stain it. (i gave up) and scoop a couple of teaspoons of that good good. Yeah, no, don't even weigh it. Thats not for tonight. Just let your ancestors guide you and bam. Bobs your uncle. Enjoy everyone!

White peony

This tea is really growing on me.

So much adjustments on how i brewed it. I even tinkered with my water tds and weight lol.

Kept my tds at around 20-50 ppm

Used a decent kettle at around 180-185°f

Every steep on a gaiwan is controlled in this intervals (5s, 8s, 12s, 18s, and 28s)

Leaves should be let to cool down every in between steeps to avoid cooking it.

And yep first 2 to 3 steeps will give you the cleanest sweet, grassy, mushroomy, herbally taste that literally reminds me of "psychedelic mushrooms" loool!

After that you'll encounter the deeper grass loosing most of the herbal taste and opening that seaweedy notes that gives you the umami sensation.

And ofcourse ill steep each and every batch to the maximum lool sometimes reaching 10 steeps where i can literally taste the bitterness that it wasn’t supposed to give.

Enjoy the weekend guys!

Blasphemy or justified?

Had a ball of Ginseng oolong and some bits of leftover light roasted Tieguanyin. Nanghinayang ako so pinag halo ko na lang.

Turned out pretty good! Had that Jasmine aroma and the sweetness of Ginseng.

Was a good sesh 👌.

Getting into Oolongs.

So like many other trentahin i finally pulled the trigger and started my tea journey.

400ml mug with removable strainer.

380ml of soup after the strainer is removed.

185f for temperature I use R0 water kasi wala akong mineral, and definitely do not want to use tap water.

I steeped for exactly 2 minutes from the moment the hot water touches the tea leaves.

I get a lot of floral notes like Jasmine and rose and konting nutty profile, also sweet aftertaste.

Astringency is very minimal, almost unnoticed.

No bitterness at all, or my taste buds are just busted from drinking instant coffee everyday for the past 18 years.

Am i ruining the tea?

Am i disrespecting the tea gods?

Am i just destroying it by using a mug?

there's so much i don't know but I'm getting sucked into this deeeeeep rabit hole.

Now, when using a Gaiwan, how should i do it?

Please be brutally honest as i am very serious about this expensive hobby I'm about to get into.
