Question about tap water vs RO for soil plants + TriPart in semi-hydro

Hi everyone! I use Terra Aquatica TriPart both for soil plants and semi-hydro.
For semi-hydro: do you think the recommended TriPart dosage is appropriate, or should it be adjusted?
For soil: would you use my tap water directly, mix it with RO, or use 100% RO + remineralization?
My tap water: GH 21.8°f, Ca 64.7 mg/L, Mg 13.7 mg/L, HCO₃ 240 mg/L, pH 7.87, EC 369 µS/cm.
I previously felt that plants performed better when I diluted the tap water with RO, but I’m not sure if it was actually the water.

Can HC Cuba thrive on inert substrate in a high-tech tank?

My Monte Carlo has been growing well even on an inert substrate, but I was wondering: would more demanding plants like HC Cuba still do well too, or is aquasoil really a big advantage there?

I’m about to transfer everything (fish, plants, filter, etc.) from one aquarium to another, and I’d like to avoid:

  • ammonia spikes
  • KH/parameter swings
  • issues for the fish (I’ll be using an already mature filter)

Do you have any recommendations for a good inert substrate that is:

  • easy to plant in
  • doesn’t alter water parameters
  • suitable even for demanding plants like HC Cuba?

Thanks!

Water changes on a 180L tank: looking for easier ways to drain 100L directly to the toilet

Hi everyone,
I do weekly water changes of around 100 liters on my aquarium, and using buckets/containers every time is starting to become pretty inconvenient and messy.

The toilet is about 8 meters away from the tank, so I was thinking about setting up a longer hose and draining the dirty water directly into the WC instead of using bins.

Do any of you do something similar?
I’m looking for suggestions to make water changes easier and more practical overall. Maybe specific hoses, quick connectors, pumps, siphon setups, valves, or other DIY ideas that worked well for you.

The tank is a 180L, and I’d ideally like something reliable and not too annoying to set up every week.

Thanks in advance!

Has anyone removed the top frame/bracing from a Juwel Rio 180?

Hi everyone,
I’m thinking about removing the upper plastic frame/bracing from my Juwel Rio 180 because I prefer the cleaner rimless look and easier access for maintenance.
Has anyone here actually done it on a Rio 180?
I’d really like to know:
if the tank stayed structurally safe over time
whether the glass started bowing afterwards
if you reinforced it in another way
how difficult the removal was
and if you regretted doing it later
Photos and long-term experiences would be super appreciated. Thanks!

Best online aquarium plant stores in Europe that ship to Italy?

Hi everyone,
I live in Italy, but most local websites don’t have a very large selection of aquarium plants.

Do you know any good online stores in Europe that ship to Italy and offer a wide variety of plants?

Thanks in advance!
