Healthcare Assistant interview coming up — what kind of questions should I expect?

Hi everyone,

I have an interview for a Healthcare Assistant position in a few days and I'm trying to prepare. For those who've been through this process (either as an interviewer or candidate), what kind of questions typically come up?

I'd really appreciate hearing about:

Common scenario-based questions (e.g. handling a difficult resident/patient)

Questions about teamwork or communication

Anything specific to care homes vs. hospitals

Any curveball questions that caught you off guard

Any tips or personal experiences would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

DIY flooring over underfloor heating (epoxy vs wood) — need advice before we start

Hi guys,

We're moving into a new house in a few months, and to save some money, my husband and I are planning to install the flooring ourselves. We've never done this before, so we have a few questions and would really appreciate any guidance.

1)Which is more DIY-friendly to install over heated flooring — epoxy or wooden flooring?

2)Where can I find good quality wooden flooring at a reasonable price?

3)Is epoxy flooring something a beginner can realistically do themselves, or does it really need a professional?

4)Do we need extra insulation under the heated flooring, or does the heating system handle that on its own?

5)What thickness (mm) of wooden flooring is recommended for heated floors vs. regular (non-heated) floors?

Also — if any of you have done your own flooring before, I'd love to hear general tips, common mistakes to avoid, or things you wish you'd known before starting. Any advice at all is welcome!

Thanks so much in advance 🙏

BAMS grad in Dublin looking for skill-building courses + entry-level admin job leads

Hi all!

I'm a BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) graduate who moved to Dublin in March 2025. I'm job hunting here and want to build up my skills to be more competitive for the local market.

A few things I'm looking for:

Cheap or free courses – anything that would boost my CV, ideally admin/office skills, healthcare admin, IT/digital skills, or similar. Bonus points if it's recognised by employers here or comes with a certificate.

Entry-level admin jobs – companies or sectors in Dublin/Ireland known for hiring people with no local experience yet. I have full work rights in Ireland, so no visa sponsorship needed.

My background is clinical (a year of hospital/community health internship in India), but I'm open to healthcare admin, general office admin, scheduling, or similar roles while I figure out the best long-term path here.

Any advice — courses, job boards, companies, or just general "here's what worked for me" — would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Cheap alternatives to curtains and blinds? Looking for budget ideas.

Hey everyone,

My curtains and blinds are getting pretty expensive to replace, and I'm trying to find cheaper ways to cover my windows without sacrificing too much on privacy or light control.

Has anyone found good budget alternatives that actually work well? I'm open to things like:

DIY fabric options (bedsheets, tension rods, etc.)

Cheap retailer finds (IKEA, discount stores, etc.)

Non-traditional coverings (paper shades, film, etc.)

Secondhand/thrifted options

Would love to hear what's worked for you, especially if you've furnished a place on a tight budget. Bonus points if it's renter-friendly (no drilling)!

Thanks in advance 🙏🏼

Any good apps/sites like Adverts for second-hand furniture in Ireland?

Hi everyone,

I'm moving into a new house in a month and I'm on a tight budget, so I'm planning to get second-hand furniture to start with.

I already know about Adverts (Adverts.ie), which is great for finding free or cheap items. I'm looking for similar alternatives to explore more options.

Could you suggest some good websites, apps, or Facebook/Instagram pages where I can find free or low-cost furniture and household goods?

Thanks in advance!

Second-hand projector vs buying new — which is worth it long-term?

Hi all,

I'm looking to buy a projector for home use (movies/general use) and trying to decide between buying second-hand or investing in a new one.

For those with experience:

Are second-hand projectors generally reliable, or do they come with hidden issues (lamp life, dead pixels, etc.)?

What should I check before buying used (hours on lamp, condition, ports)?

If buying new, what's a good budget-friendly option that'll last a few years?

Any brands/models to avoid, second-hand or new?

Budget is on the lower end, so trying to make a smart choice for long-term use. Any advice or personal experience welcome!

Thanks in advance 🙏

Free courses for spouses on dependent visa (Ireland) — healthcare course suggestions welcome

Hi everyone, I'm on a spouse visa in Ireland, here just over a year now. I'm looking to do a course but a lot of the free/subsidised options have eligibility rules that exclude visa holders like me.

Does anyone know of:

Free courses (QQI, Solas, ETB, etc.) that accept spouse/dependent visa holders without needing PPS-linked eligibility or residency conditions

Paid courses that are worth it if free ones aren't an option

Bonus if it's healthcare-related (I have a background in Ayurvedic medicine, so anything in patient care, healthcare assistant, or similar would be ideal)

Would really appreciate any leads — course names, providers, or just pointing me toward the right search terms. Thanks in advance!

Where to find affordable skincare (under €10) for oily & acne-prone skin in Ireland?

Hi everyone! I have oily and acne-prone skin and I'm trying to build a simple skincare routine without spending a lot. Ideally looking for products under €10 each.

Where do you usually find affordable options in Ireland — Boots, Dealz, Penneys/Primark, pharmacies like Lloyds or McCauley's? Any specific brands or product types (cleanser, moisturiser, toner) you'd recommend for this skin type?

Would really appreciate any tips — especially if you've tried something that actually worked for oily or breakout-prone skin! 🙏

Hey everyone! I'm a medical student currently on a dependent in Ireland and I'm looking to get my QQI Level 5 certificate. Can anyone suggest online or offline courses that are recognised in the Irish job market? Would love to hear from anyone who's been in a similar situation. Thanks in advance!

**Is there a free audiobook site?**

I've recently gotten into audiobooks and I'm looking for something similar — a site where I can actually download audiobook files for free.

What sites or apps do you guys actually use for free audiobooks? Any hidden gems? 🎧

Thanks in advance!
