How to keep piggies enriched

Hi! I’m bringing home my Juliana girl in about a week and a half and I’m anxious about being able to keep her entertained and enriched, especially when we aren’t home. She will be in a large playpen and then as she gets older a large kennel when we aren’t at home (which isn’t often I only work 2 days a week) but I want to make sure she is entertained and doesn’t get bored and destroy things. Eventually I want to build her a nice outdoor set up with a house and an area to root and sunbathe but we aren’t there yet.

So far I have:
Snuffle mats
Lick mats
Stuffies
Lots of blankets to root in
And I’m working on getting together some rooting boxes to place around the house with garden stones

All other ideas/advice/life with a pig tips are appreciated and welcome! Thankful for this community as a new pig mom!

Pigs and Dogs

Hey there, first of all please be nice, I’m just looking for insight on this.

I have put down a deposit on a Juliana female pig that we are supposed to be picking up on Saturday. I live in a rural area and have plenty of space for her if she needs to be outside but am planning on her staying mainly inside in our basement in a playpen to start then a large kennel when we are gone. When at home though I plan on having her with us upstairs.

I have 2 dogs and I went down a rabbit hole of horror stories of dogs suddenly attacking pigs after years of getting along fine. For those of you who have both, I would love to hear your experiences and recommendations.

My dogs are very gentle and have never been aggressive, not even with food or anything like that but I want to make the right choice that keeps everyone safe. I do have the option to keep them completely separated if I need to but that wasn’t my original plan. Like I said I live in a rural area and I could create a nice area for her outside and bring her inside as needed but that’s only if I feel like she’s not going to get along with our dogs.

Thanks in advance for your advice, I appreciate it! Like I said, please be nice I’m just trying to do the right thing for all of them!

Post DMX - poor perfusion

I’m 10 days post DMX skin sparing, non nipple sparing, straight to implant. I saw my plastics RN two days ago and they are concerned with the blood flow near the bottom of my right breast. They have advised to use DMSO cream 2x per day until I see them again on Thursday morning. I’m a RN myself and it looks pretty gnarly. Very dark purple around the bottom side and I’m so worried about not being able to salvage the skin and having to go back into the OR. Has anyone else experienced this and had the DMSO work and save the skin? Thank you!

New Pig Mom, all advice welcome!

Hi there, I’ve been wanting and researching pigs for years and I’ve finally found my baby! She’s a Juliana piglet and I can’t wait for her to come home in August.

I’m already aware that there is not true mini pig and that’s fine! I’ll be happy even if she’s 100+ lbs full grown.

She comes microchipped, with feed, treats, vaccines, deworming, blanket, harness and leash and also kennel and potty trained.

I’m planning on her being in the house most of the time but will provide plenty of outside time as well. Was thinking of making an outdoor pen for her if needed so she can be in a safe spot to explore and dig if she wants to.

Any advice on how to care for her and keep her happy is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Falling Apart

Im done with chemo, my last one was 3 weeks ago. Last Lupron was also 3 weeks ago and surgery is in 4 days. I feel like I’m falling apart. I’m so angry, irritable and sad. Im triggered so easily, my marriage is in shambles it feels like, I have a toddler that’s overstimulating to the max and I feel like I’m going to explode. And yes I’m medicated (Xanax and Zoloft). I’m also jet lagged from a long trip we just took to top it all off. I feel like this feeling won’t go away, I feel like a horrible mother because I’m so overstimulated and every day I have to wake up and parent gives me anxiety. Did/does anyone else feel this way?

Recliner vs Wedge?

Surgery is scheduled, looking for recommendations for really anything that made your life easier post double mastectomy.

Background I’m 33, in fairly good health, TNBC stage 3 and opted for a double mastectomy with direct to implant or expander depending on what surgeon thinks is safest/will produce best result mid surgery. No DIEP flap or anything like that.

Mainly trying to decide what will be best for sleeping, a power recliner or a pillow wedge, or that sleep better pillow system I’ve been getting ads for left and right.

Things I already have:
Drain holders
Drain shirts
Button up pjs and shirts
Protein nutrition shakes and hydration for recovery
I’m sure there’s more but chemo brain is the worst it has been here at the end but I’m done!

Is this lesion Impetigo or a slow healing Pimple??

Wondering if this is impetigo or just a pimple. I did mess with it (I know sorry) and it never had any white puss but it just doesn’t want to heal. I wouldn’t say that the crust is super yellow and it hasn’t spread anywhere else. The two spots beside it I’ve had for months so I don’t think they are related. The spot in the middle is almost like a vascular acne scar. I have had derm look at that one and she wasn’t sure what it was.

Side note: I’m currently immunocompromised going through chemotherapy but I haven’t been exposed to anyone with impetigo that I know of but I do have a 3 year old who goes to daycare sometimes

Sad about breastfeeding

I’m having a hard time with the fact that I won’t be able to ever breastfeed a baby again. I fed my first for 14 months and it was so special to me. I’ve opted for a DMX because I’m young and I just don’t want to worry about recurrence there. I know it’s better for my future children that I live and have the best chance but I’m mourning being able to feed them like my first. 😢

Having a little panic

I just had my 4th round of TC and keytruda on Friday and I’m experiencing heart palpitations and a chronic dry cough. I did have COVID a week ago but that cough has been gone so I don’t think it’s related. My lungs just feel irritated and my HR is 115-120 laying down. I got 2 bags of IV fluids today thinking maybe it was dehydration but I’m kinda panicking about having a PE. Anyone else experience this? Yes I’ve messaged my DR on my chart 😭

COVID Ugh

Two nights ago I woke up at 2 am with body aches, chills, and a fever of 100.8. Called my nurse hotline and they said go to the ER. So we packed up and went, turns out I have COVID. Now I get to be sick as a dog with no real break before my next chemo on Friday. Also, last round was the worst so far for me so I’m worried how my body will react after just being completely drained from this and then chemo. This sucks!!! That’s all 😭

My mom had HER2+ bc 10 years ago and she just recently stopped getting scans. Meanwhile, I have TNBC and my oncologist basically said we will only do blood tests post dmx. I’m not ok with that. I saw a story recently of someone who was being monitored only with blood work post bc and they found a 10cm tumor on her liver too late. Never showed up on the cancer marker tests. So why make us suffer with anxiety?
