Ok hypothetically, would Anissa let me crack if I unlocked her with a code?
Is she all mine now

So unfortunately it’s looking like I’m going to need a leave of absence due to some mental health issues. I’m an OMS-1 and haven’t finished my first block yet but failing 3/4 of my classes so I think the only other option is just to fail them and get kicked out. For anyone who has done something similar and successfully matched, what was the process like? Was it difficult transitioning to graduating a year later? I’m also feeling like a massive failure, I can’t stop hating myself for doing this poorly and not taking advantage of this incredible privilege I have. Also how do you deal with the loss in tuition, housing, and other costs?
I thought we left this BS in high school and undergrad, I am so tired of being asked to share an interesting fact about myself, thinking for so long about what to say, then regurgitating the same line that hasn’t been true for years. Pls just give me an exam instead.
This will likely come off as annoying and ungrateful, but I think I need some advice.
I know that a lot of people have imposter syndrome think they don’t belong in medical school because they think they aren’t smart enough. My problem is that I know I’m smart enough, but I have very little work ethic and don’t really know “how” to work hard at things. I graduated undergrad with a pretty good gpa, but because it was easy for me and I didn’t really have to work hard at it. I did poorly on the MCAT and didn’t have great EC’s because I didn’t work hard at them (and ended up at a not so good DO school). Now I’m only 3 weeks into my first year and already behind because I can’t bring myself to put in the hours to study and memorize the material. At this rate I might fail my first block, and I’m terrified of that. I know the only way to graduate is to work hard at it, but I just don’t know how. There might be some mental illness at play for which I am seeing someone (though it hasn’t started working so that makes me think I don’t have anything genuinely wrong) but at some point I need to take personal responsibility for my actions.
If anyone has experience with this, please feel free to send advice.
Hi everyone! Currently looking to get some advice if possible, idk how appropriate this is. I’m an OMS-1, started a few weeks ago. I’m pretty set on psychiatry and I’m pretty sure I want a clinical job rather than academic since I don’t love research. I’m just looking for general advice on what matters to match well:
Note: I know psychiatry is also about personality and how well you work with other people, i just want to know about this stuff for now.
Is it true that psych is getting more competitive? I keep hearing yes and no. And do I need the Steps or is COMLEX enough?
How much do preclinical grades matter? (My school gives letter grades and gpa, not pass/fail)
How important is research? It’s not my favorite and I’ve never really done it before but not 100% opposed to it.
Does the fact that I go to a new DO school matter/will it lower my chances?
What extracurriculars would look good? Besides remote things like suicide hotline.
Any other advice would be appreciated too. Thanks!

Sorry for the second post, but I guess it is possible to switch schools at this point. Now I’m asking for advice on which school to choose, DUQCOM or UNECOM. I know a good amount of stuff about DUQCOM so I’m looking for pros and cons for UNECOM now, besides money. Also, I’m not 100% what specialty I want but I do want to specialize, and it would be great if I could at least have the option of a competitive specialty, even if I’m not interested right now. Thanks in advance, sorry if I seem annoying
Edit: You guys need to be less nice 😭 I don’t know much about UNECOM just that it has a good reputation, so I have no idea where I’d be better off
I committed to DUQCOM last month, but today I got an acceptance to UNECOM, which was my first choice. Unfortunately I’ve already put my deposit on the school and place in Pittsburgh I’m renting and have pretty much set everything up to attend, I just wish I got the other acceptance much earlier. Is there any realistic way I could still attend UNECOM?
This has probably been posted a bunch of times, but I’m looking for some advice. I’ll be starting medical school at the end of June but have a bunch of (unofficial) mental issues, mainly depression, that make me lose my desire to go on, stop doing things I need to do like studying, etc. it definitely affected me while in undergrad but I never got help for it. Getting proper help from a therapist or psychiatrist isn’t really an option because I’m still dependent on my family and don’t want the extra financial stress (and for them to find out), so I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to handle this while in a super stressful time like medical school.
I don’t know if I’m looking for advice or just to vent, but lately it’s been getting worse than normal. I’ve struggled with depression for ~7 years now (I’m 23), and since then I don’t think I’ve once actually wanted to be alive. Nothing gives me the motivation to actually live, I just can’t actually commit for religious reasons. But every single day for years, the thought that is in my head 99% percent of the time is the desire to die. There are rarely things I enjoy doing, but even if my entire life was filled with them I think I’d still want to die. I have a family but I’m not close with them, and I don’t have any friends because it typically just stresses me out. I’ve debated doing therapy, but there are a couple problems with that. 1 is that it’s expensive and I don’t want to put that stress on my family (I also don’t have enough money of my own). The other problem is that at this point I don’t know if I even want to get better. But since I know I can’t actually commit, I’ll just be living a depressed life for the next few decades. I just don’t know what to do, all I want is to disappear :(
How screwed am I for only getting into a new DO school? I’ll be their 3rd year of students and I’m really worried about residency, and I know my chances are pretty low considering it’s 1. a DO school and 2. a new school. I’m not that interested in the most competitive specialties but I’d at least like some options for when I apply for residency. I also know that DO schools are popping up pretty frequently so I don’t even know if I’m actually qualified to be in a “medical school.” Would it be better to just apply again?
