Defeated

Today's Day 5 of 11 this school year that my AuDHD 6yo has refused to do his work. His gifted teacher messaged me and said she had to stand beside him all morning to try to get him to do his work, but he didn't even talk to her, and then he refused to go to specials (today was art class). And when he refused to return to the gifted class after art, he returned to his regular class instead. I don't know yet how the rest of his day went.

I don't know what's going on with him or what to do about it. We're having an emergency IEP meeting on the 26th, but I'm out of ideas. This is his 4th year of school and it's never been this bad. I'm also AuDHD, but I was always the good kid in school.

Out of compliance

It's the 8th day of school today, and I just found out that the school is out of compliance re: my AuDHD son's IEP. It's not anything egregious -- just 1× daily social skills lesson with a parapro, but it hasn't been happening. I don't think the teacher even knew it was supposed to be happening, because her answer to me was that she'd bring it up with the case manager. They don't even have a parapro in the classroom (he's in a GenEd class).

My best friend is a SpEd teacher and she told me to give it a week to get fixed. I trust her opinion on this, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to escalate this if it's not fixed in a week. I don't even know how to escalate it, or to whom. I don't want to have to escalate it.

This just makes the decision to put him in GenEd even more agonizing for me. I don't know if they're going to move him to the co-taught/ inclusion class or if they're just going to shuffle around a parapro's schedule to meet with him for 45 minutes a day in the GenEd class. He's also in the gifted program, which is what makes this decision so hard. I just want what's best for my kids.

I don't know what I want from posting this. I guess I just wanted to vent to people who might understand. Thanks for reading.

Itchy hemorrhoids

This is kinda embarrassing, but I have had hemorrhoids since my first pregnancy in 2017/2018. They got bigger with my second pregnancy in 2019/2020. They haven't gone away, but they did get smaller after I gave birth.

The problem is that they've been super itchy and kinda painful for the last week or so. I can't use hemorrhoid creams because they're vasoconstrictors, so they raise my blood pressure, and it's already high. Not high enough for medication at the moment, but I don't want it to get that high.

Is there anything I can do to ease the itchiness that won't raise my blood pressure? I'm not too worried about the discomfort -- it's like a 1 or 2 out of 10. But the itchiness is driving me insane.

I have a regularly scheduled appointment with my doctor next week, and I'll probably talk to her about this then, but if there's anything you can suggest in the meantime, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

8yo AuDHD son needs meds

My 8yo AuDHD son has good days and bad days. But the good days can turn into bad days at the flip of a switch.

On good days, he's sweet and calm and silly and plays pretty well with his 6yo brother and with his friends. I mean, he always has his stims, most of which involve noises and/or strange/abnormal behavior of some sort, but he's pretty cool.

His bad days are decidedly NOT cool. Hitting, biting, screaming, kicking, defiance, throwing things, destruction of property (his and other people's). It's just with his dad, his brother, and me, but it's in a variety of places -- home, church, restaurants, stores, school events, Cub Scouts, the local children's museum. When he's having a bad day in public, we get nasty looks, and other kids avoid him. Like a few weeks ago, we went to the children's museum because he wanted to go, and when something set him off (I'm still not sure what), the parents of the other kids in the play area came and got their kids and went to other areas of the museum.

Something's got to give. I do have an appointment with a psychologist next month to renew the AuDHD diagnosis he received 2.5 years ago, plus to see if there's anything else that might be going on. But that process can take up to a month from the intake (scheduled for July 14th) to getting the report.

So he has an appointment with his pediatrician tomorrow to discuss meds. I was researching, and because his behaviors are probably connected to his AuDHD, there are a number of options. Stimulants such as Ritalin, which can apparently increase aggressiveness, are one option. But there are also non-stimulants like guanfacine and clonodin, and anti-psychotics like abilify and risperadone. All of those options except the stimulants have chewable and/or liquid options that my insurance actually covers (I checked, with screenshots, because we're in the USA and USA insurance is awful). And the clonodin also has a weekly patch option, which is also covered.

I guess what I'm looking for is anecdotal recommendations for what to tell the pediatrician, and which medication(s) to avoid, and which one(s) to ask for. Like, what have you and/or your kids experienced that might give me hope?

TIA

Edit to add: We've tried occupational therapy and play therapy. He's VIOLENTLY opposed to even the idea of anything with the word therapy in it. I even tried calling it "counseling" instead, but he's too smart for such tricks. Right now, meds are my only option that I can think of. Well, that's not true. I've considered inpatient care, but I don't want him to hate me. So meds.

Update: So we saw the pediatrician today. Because of our insurance and my son's inability to swallow pills, options were very limited. They were limited even more by the fact that our pediatrician cannot prescribe abilify or respiradone - that requires the psychiatrist, and the one in the pediatrician's office is out on maternity leave. So we're starting with Clonodine HCl extended release liquid -- IF our insurance actually covers it. If not, we're going to have to get a referral to the psychiatrist for whenever she gets back in the office.

When to take Metformin

I was just diagnosed and prescribed 500 mg of Metformin once a day. Google is telling me to take it with my biggest meal (dinner), but the Rx itself says to take it with breakfast (my smallest meal).

I plan to ask the pharmacist when I pick up the Rx in a few hours, but I'm hoping you lovely people can give me some advice or anecdotal suggestions about when to take it. Because let's be honest - neither Google nor pharmacists are 100% right all the time.

TIA

PS. I'm in the USA if that matters.

New PCOS/PMOS diagnosis

Like the title says, I (37f) was just diagnosed today. My best friend was diagnosed about 10 years ago, so I'm not going through this completely unaware. But I'm definitely having feelings about this new diagnosis. It's just one more to add to my list of diagnoses lol.

My periods have been irregular since the very beginning, so most of the last 25 ish years. I did skip periods altogether for 5.5 years due to pregnancies and breastfeeding, and when they came back, they were regular for about 3.5 years. Now they're irregular again, so I went to my gyno, and here we are.

I'm not sure what I'm looking for by posting this. I will be starting Metformin and oral contraceptives (the pill) as soon as the pharmacy fills my prescriptions (probably tomorrow), so I guess any advice about meds or something if anyone has any? Otherwise, I guess I'm just posting to try to process this new diagnosis. Sorry.
