Pentax Cameras from 1980s Competitive Camera Corp Catalogues

Four years worth of catalogs. (1985, 86, 8, and 89)

The K1000 shows up in all of them, which isn't surprising. Pentax sold millions of them. It'd be my second choice, behind the LX.

The first lens I would get would have been the 50mm f1.7, followed by the 28mm f2.8.

I would also take the Spotmeter V over the Digital Spotmeter.

Olympus film cameras from 1985-1989

Olympus cameras from Competitive Camera Corp catalogues. Years included are: 1985, 86, 88, and 89.

1986 is my favorite year because of the poor printing alignment.

Inflation can be adjusted for by multiplying '85 prices by 3.1 and '89 by 2.7.

The OM 77 AF was the only autofocus SLR Olympus made. I can't blame them for not wanting to try to compete against Canon.

The accounting fraud likely started in 1986, when the Japanese asset bubble started.

Duck Race or Demolition Derby?

I missed the start because I was taking pictures of ducks...

But let's be honest, with how many ducks didn't finish, it wasn't much of a race. There were pile ups all along the course. 🫣

Thanks to the Naperville Riverwalk Foundation for putting on the race, it's one of my favorite events. The park district crew did a great job of making sure all the ducks got collected. It was impressive how quickly everything was cleaned up.

Minolta's from a 1986 Competitive Camera Corp catalogue

I'd buy the X-700 with 50mm f1.7.

Adjusting for inflation $100 in 1986 would be ~$305.80 today.

I found the list price of the Maxxum 7000 from 1985 and it was $421 for the body only. The 50mm f1.7 AF was $88.

Please don't ban me for using a Canon Canoscan LiDE 210. 🫡

Market Meadows on expired Fujifilm Superia 400

It was dark, run down, and required walking, but I liked it.

I shot it with a Canon SureShot A1 that crumbled after this roll. It was an underwater camera that got used in chlorinated pools.

I don't remember how many stops I tried to overexpose, but it would have been at least 2. I developed and digitized it myself. That's how I was able to almost squeeze out the last extra frame of the sign.

The Guzman y Gomez signage is GONE

Any ideas on who paid for the removal of the signage or when a for lease sign is going to show up?

What do you want/think to/will end up there?

When I was walking around I was awestruck at the drive-through lanes. They were so wide, with huge turns, and yet...

The exterior looked like it was in great shape. I like that the drive-through lanes wrap around the parking including the handicap spots. That design decision has probably saved dozens of lives.

Opinions on the seating area? I like that there is a tiny fence to protect people from rapid dogs and other dangers.

In a previous thread someone mentioned violation of the WARN act. It looks like we'll get to find out.

> Former workers of Guzman y Gomez are alleging the company violated Illinois’ Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act by failing to give adequate notice before closing its eight Chicago-area locations and filed a lawsuit Sunday in federal court.

> Joseph Guzman, no relation to the chain’s namesake, worked at the chain’s Evanston, Des Plaines and Bucktown locations for the past year. Guzman said the closing puts his status as a college student at Wilbur Wright College in jeopardy.

> “They’re only paying us one week’s worth of pay,” he said, adding that assistant managers and managers will receive three months of severance.
