People who struggle mentally; do you find comfort in mild physical illness/pain?

Not talking about self infliction of any kind. Asking people who suffer from GAD or depression or PTS or other non-personality disorders. Do you guys feel being in pain (for instance muscle cramps, headaches, high fevers, or even fractures) are an extremely good distraction from thoughts that are usually free to assault your mind?

Ive experienced calmer mental state, easier sleep, and less of a need to distract myself from thoughts using my phone or people. When I have high fevers and twice when I have had serious injury. And no its not the pharmaceuticals because I have experimented by going without them for almost a week in serious sickness. Religious people say all the sicknesses are for the best and I think I agree with them on this one.

Did not expect a book published in 2024 could make me feel stuff

The only reason I picked this up was because who doesnt like hardbacks from authors you havent heard of?

Usually I check to see the year of publication because I love books from the 1990s but I must have forgotten to check this one.

It brought my desensitized ass almost to tears. Three stars for the writing but five for the story. Sure its corny at times and some people might call it anti-man but I think the radical insight is not at all far from reality. Im gonna be married soon inshaAllah and I cant wait to pester my wife to read this. If she doesnt Im gonna read it out loud at bedtime.

Manipulation: the one skill to rule them all

Think about it. Anyone who has any other skill is only used by people who know manipulation. Art carries propaganda. Sales and marketing become tools of robbing the masses. Medicine and surgery distribute poison and destroy natural biological order. Combat is slavery where you snuff out freedom. Technology provides tools of espionage and control. Mathematics serves to turn the faithful godless, and make the atheists bow. The entire species is susceptible to verbal intelligence and manipulation. Perhaps the biggest lie is that we need skills to be free. Perhaps what we need is numbers and brute force.

Time slower since ~1 week?

r/conspiracy has been going on about time slowing down or negative or positive shifts in life since the ceasing of activity at the large hadron collider. Has anyone noticed anything like that this past week? I personally have felt extreme slowing down in time since yesterday but still it could be psychological effect.

"Loha Manwana" (mahawra)

I have a theory: The idiom "apna loha manwana" is a mistranslation of the english idiom "testing one's mettle". The two have identical meanings, and the word mettle is far lesser known to urdu-speakers than the word Metal, for which the former word can easily have been mistaken.

Concerning behaviour of boys and men on eid ul azha

Ive noticed some things. Lets hope it doesnt get too freudian.

To begin with: cows and bulls are heavily objectified. Called "jaanwar" or sometimes even "maal" when they are right in front and very species-identifiable. And god forbid what other chapri nomenclature. The objectification goes on to include aggressive smacking of the upper thighs and rear. And has anyone noticed how males get triggered if they try to touch the cow/bull on the head and it shakes/pushes? And then they touch it more and more aggressively as if to remind it of its place as an object?

Then theres the weird head and body decorations, the "love" thrusted upon the cows/bulls through touching more and more once the animal shows it doesnt want to be touched, the weird wooing thats often unreciprocated, the pleasure derived from taking the cow/bull on a walk and teased into the illusion of running free only to force it back into control and remind it how its still very much an owned being. Theres also fireworks upon arriving home from the mandi, weirdly reminiscent of baraats.

Its not like they shy away from wanting to chop up the meat and grill and eat it heartily so the element of carnality/baseness is already there. So like their relationship with women mor eoften than not, the relationship is not one with any gentleness. Yet there is no lack of weird romantic advances and no lack of 😪😪😢😢😢😖❤❤ boohoo its the last night of your life.

In combination the entire thing seems kinda sick to me. A relationship that very much stems from the difference in power distribution.

Ive fooled myself for more than a decade and cant cope now

Since early middle school i became aware of my friendlessness and general weirdness that drove people away. Initially it didnt bother me but within a year I was comparing myself to other people and their massive friend groups. It started to take a toll and at some point unconsciously I convinced myself that social circles determine a persons value, hence my own self esteem started to plummet. I countered by making friends, and found it easier than I had thought. But I quickly got addicted to the high. When I was finishing up my a levels in 2018 I still wasnt aware of the damage I was causing and continued to farm my "quantity over quality" clique. The people were fairly normal, often fun, and introduced me to their own friends with fondness. Still, somewhere inside I had a nagging feeling that I didnt belong here. Got in and out of university with the same attitude, but it did become clearer to me what a house of cards the whole thing is. And the way I would completely avoid addressing anytime things went wrong between me and anyone else and rush over to replace them was definitely not normal. Today, I have detached from most of these people. Went to three different psychologists and they eventually deferred me because I would never let my guard down and was too good at convincing them they that Im being sincere lol. Anyways, my mental health is shit now at 26 years old. Just hopping from one distraction to the next and forgive me god even religion takes this pedestal every few weeks. Other times I will pour myself out in a diary and genuinely disown the paragraphs like 2 hours later. I have a fluttering career right now but I have faith in it as my expenditure is minimal. I wish I wasnt this good at lying to myself. There is one person in my life who sees through it more often than anyone has, and its definitely not easy being subjected to that and we often fall out. I hate myself even more for it. I am trying my best to deepen my connection to her but Idk if it will help me forget the way I have spent the last thirteen years.
