Question for opensourced Ling

Question for opensourced Ling

I noticed quite a few people have downloaded Ling on Hugging Face. What tasks are people using it for? Does it have any drawbacks?

What do you think he was actually emotional about?

Bro went from ‘supreme leader’ to motivational podcast energy real quick 😭💀

I think we can relate to this too much.

You know that feeling when you finally get some sleep after a grueling night shift, but then the world outside decides that 10:30am is a perfect time for everyone to use a chainsaw, leaf blower, or have a conference call outside your window? That’s my reality every day, and I’m just over it. I’ve tried everything: blackout curtains, fan on full, and even sleeping with my pillow over my head. But no matter how hard I try, there’s always that one thing that cuts through the noise: the neighbor’s dog barking for no reason, a delivery truck unloading, or the lawn care people who show up like clockwork.

And then there's the problem of waking up. I need to wake up, but at the same time, I don’t want to hear the whole world around me. I’ve tried setting my phone across the room and using the loudest alarm, but somehow, it just doesn’t wake me up without freaking me out. I’ve heard a lot of people mention Soundcore A30 earbuds with alarm features. They’re supposed to block out external noise and still wake you up gently without disturbing the whole house. Has anyone used them or something similar? Do they really work, or am I setting myself up for another round of sleepless frustration? I need something that works, is affordable (under $200), and doesn’t feel like I’m wearing a pair of bricks on my head. What’s your solution for this problem?

First short with real lighting, ~$400 budget. How would you split key light, fill light, and rim?

Student-adjacent project, two actors, single location apartment. I've read the terms key light, fill light, rim lighting a hundred times and still can't land on a shopping list.

I'm torn between blowing most of the budget on one stronger COB light, something like the Neewer MS150C so I can push through a softbox without pegging the dimmer, versus a cheaper key plus leaving money for fill and a small rim. I already know from a nightmare rehearsal that a naked bright key with no fill looks like an interrogation. Borrowed a bedsheet once, not doing that on set day.

Modifiers are another panic. The Neewer NK103 softbox kit keeps coming up as the boring purchase that actually fixes faces, but if I buy that plus a decent head I'm not sure what's left for a fill panel like the Neewer NL480.Constraints: small room, landlord-friendly, can't rebuild the circuit. I can sandbag stands if needed. I'll operate mostly solo.

If you had ~$400 and one shopping cart, what would you prioritize first and what would you deliberately defer? Am I crazy to want the MS150C in the mix or should I downsize the key and lock in fill earlier?
