How Bad Was It Being Raised Evangelical
So, I’m an ex-catholic and for me, being raised Catholic wasn’t bad. My parents were okay with me watching things as long as they were appropriate for my age. Obviously there were some things, like me not being able to watch anything with LGBTQ, and my aunt, who is a fanatic catholic, extremely picky on what I watch when I was with her, but overall, it was fine and the main reason I left Christianity is me realizing I was gay and seeing inconsistencies in the bible and contradictions against it. However, I’ve heard that being raised evangelical, kinda sucks. I heard people talk about how their parents controlled their lives and how it felt like a cult, which makes sense because it IS a cult. However, I’ve only seen around 3 people say that, so I want to ask you how it was being raised evangelical?

If God can do anything, why does suffering happen?
I mean, like, so many bad things have happened to people who have done nothing wrong. Stuff like 9/11, WWII, even recent events like the Venezuelan Earthquake. I mean, if you went to any normal person and asked them if you would like to end all suffering, they would say yes, so why would this all-powerful loving god not? The funny thing is the arguments people try to say to justify this. They say, “Oh, it’s the devil’s doing!” Well, if God was omnipotent then why can’t he just stop whatever the devil’s doing or thanos snap him. The worst one I’ve heard is, “So people can get closer to God.” Like excuse me, what? What kind of god kills innocent people and causes suffering just to get more people sucking his dih?
What is the earliest memory of something you did that now you realize was gay?
So, back in 5th grade, I had this friend and we went on a field trip and we were sitting next to each other. I remember thinking that it would be nice to lean on him or something. Now looking at it, I realized I most likely had feelings for him. I didn’t know that though since I only realized I was gay in 7th grade.
Christians saying they’re persecuted is one of the most annoying things ever
Like they act like “EvErY OnE HaTeS Us”, “PeOpLe wAnT uS GoNe”, like dude, SHUT THE FUCK UP!!! If you tell someone you’re christian nobody bats an eye, like ever, shouldn’t they know Christianity is the dominant religion in the west, and THE largest religion in the world? The funny thing is that when people do have negative opinions on Christians it’s because Christians are the persecutors themselves! They constantly try to go against stuff like gay rights and religious freedom, while there is actual important problems, like, oh I dunno, kids starving and homeless people. But nope, two people of the same gender loving each other is a bigger problem than kids starving I guess. And when these persecuted people actually try to fight back, then Christians start whining about how persecuted they are.
Am I the only one who gets annoyed by the mere existence of these billboards?
One thing I’ve realized about tons of Christians
Like, they pray that something that has a high possibility of happening happens, and when it happens, they act like it’s a miracle and that you should suck Jesus’s dih’s for it. I’ve seen Christians who act like they were cured by Jesus of something even though they were taking medicine supposed to cure that or visited very experienced doctors who’ve cured people countless times. However then when something bad happens they just say it’s “God’s plan” or “for people to get closer to God”. Like a lot of people from church have said the reason wars happen is so that people can get closer to Jesus. Like what?! What kind of god kills innocent people just to have more people adoring him?
Why I think deism isn’t really well known
One thing I’ve realized is that deism isn’t really talked about, and I feel like it’s because of these three reasons.
Most people who leave religions usually just go to either atheism or agnosticism
A large percentage of deists are deists without knowing. I’ve personally seen much of my friends aligning with deist beliefs without knowing what deism even is.
Deism isn’t loud about it unlike a lot of major religions because of things like hell. Also, atheists and theists fight a lot on if god exists.
God in the Bible is way different from how Christians describe him
Like they say he’s all loving and wouldn’t hurt a fly, but he’s done some pretty fucked up stuff. He killed all the firstborns in Egypt for something they didn’t even do, he flooded the world, he sends people to eternal torture just for not loving him, I could go on, it’s pretty bad.
My grandma forced me to read a Christian book and it’s genuinely disgusting
So, my parents don’t know I’m not a Christian, and gay, because I still live with them, and the other day my grandma forced me to read a Christian book. She was saying how I would probably like it because I like reading and because unlike my other books it would improve me. Well, I read it, and it’s disgusting. It has a story of a little girl who self harms (sorry, ”sacrifices herself for Jesus) which eventually leads to her death and it acts like it’s great and that we should be like her, which, what? What kinda religion tells you to self harm yourself to ”sAcRiFiCe fOr jEsUs”. I mean, what the fuck are you even sacrificing yourself for? And it also says how loving yourself and thinking you’re nice is evil and selfish. I mean, sure, thinking that you’re better than others is bad, but WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH LOVING YOURSELF?!!
What are your parent’s views on LGBT?
My mom is chill about it but my dad… let’s just say there’s a reason why I’m still closeted.
