While looking at the radar for a storm approaching greater Boston, I noticed there was a thin band moving towards the south at a perpendicular direction from the approaching storm to the west. What is it?

Perhaps I am going crazy, but I’ve noticed walking around Jersey city, particularly the downtown area, that there’s a weird funky smell coming from many of the sidewalk-planted trees.
It almost smells like some sort of rotting, or funk, or even like body odor.
I noticed it because when the breeze was blowing today, when the wind was coming from the trees on the sidewalk, I would get a massive whiff of it.
Am I going crazy or is anyone else experiencing this?
