Bennu - final picture
Yes, I colored Him like a western phoenix. I know it’s ahistorical, but I like it. The hieroglyphic text reads: “Ba Ra, Ib Ausir, Khoper Djos Ef”. ( Soul of Ra, Heart of Osiris, Who came into being by Himself.)

I’m drawing a picture of the Bennu bird, and I want to include these words. Did I get it right?
I've been reading a lot of posts on r/Hellenism about ancient Greek orthopraxy. Emphasis wasn't placed on believing the correct things (orthodoxy), you were allowed to believe what you wanted about the Gods, so long as you practiced the correct religious rituals and observed the correct ethics in every-day life.
Different communities had very different mythic traditions. For example, in Athens, Athena was viewed as a virgin Goddess (alongside Artemis and Hestia) - celibate, childless; totally asexual. But in other city-states, she may have had a husband and children.
I just think historical Egyptian religion seems similar. Different cities had different mythologies. You had multiple deities who created the universe (Ra-Atum, Ptah, Neith, the Ogdoad, etc.), deities had different spouses, parents, and children in different places...
Despite these varying beliefs, were they united by a common way of practicing their religion? And a common system of ethics (i.e. Ma'at)?
As the years have gone by, I've grown more skeptical of omens as a concept, the animals are just living their lives, going about their own business. But who knows, Maybe Nekhbet and Wadjet are watching over me.
I was just hoping to get some input on this. Do you lean toward one side or the other, or are you somewhere in the middle (like me)? I do believe that God wants us to be good to each other, so dictates morality to us to some degree, but morals and ethics also change over time. Back when the books of the Bible were being written, the world had no Geneva Convention. No concepts of atrocity or human rights. So obviously, these texts are going to contain things that are horrific and indefensible by modern standards (although there ARE things that still hold up even today; and could even be considered "timeless").
As I said, I fall somewhere in the middle of the scale. I think moral absolutism and moral relativism, when taken to their logical extremes, can both be highly problematic and even dangerous. One becomes unbending and fanatical; the other becomes uncaring and nihilistic. What do you think a "healthy middle ground" would look like?
Hello. I'm planning to write a historical fantasy novel set in Ancient Egypt, and I want the help of an actual Egyptologist. I'm not a student, but I live relatively close to Charlottesville; and the internet, in all it's wisdom, said I should look to local universities for this kind of help. I'm assuming I'll have to make some kind of appointment. Could anyone tell me how to do that?
I've always thought Riley would be a good name.
Hello! I'm an aspiring science fiction writer. One thing about mainstream sci-fi that I’ve really come to loathe is the way that aliens are often depicted as being just like humans - not just physically (humanoid body shapes), but mentally - they always think and behave just like we do. I plan to avoid these tropes in my own work as much as possible.
Buddhism’s main goal is to bring about a major psychological change in it’s practitioners, so I was wondering - could Buddhism theoretically adapt to a very alien way of thinking without loosing it’s core teachings, philosophy, and message?
Okay, I don't know if this is the right place to ask a question like this, but... I have a wand (that I made), and I don't know what kind of wood it's made from. I found the stick in a riverbed, buried in the mud. I want to get it DNA tested. Does anyone know how/where I could do that?
Horus the Elder? Horus Son of Isis? Or just Horus in general?
Two Gods of gay love who were born human! One from China, and one from Rome!
Would he be paralyzed like his 03 counterpart? Enraged? Totally speechless?
