Qumar location

Never really thought about the precise location of Qumar before. No wonder it was so strategic.

What’s happening in your first scene?

Many of the posts I see on Reddit writing communities seek advice on opening chapters. Obviously, the opening scene can be quite tricky to land.

Where or how did you choose to start your story?

My WIP concerns a journey. I started the story with a boy (the protagonist) hiding in a hole. As it turns out he is playing hide and seek with his friends, but initially he is hunkering down listening to them run by and the stakes feel quite high. Shortly after this the inciting incident takes place and his world is turned upside down.

Black cockatoos in suburban Melbourne

Sorry about the crappy quality, they were a long way up on a cloudy day. Probably yellow tailed. They were enjoying the pine cones, I had to retreat to avoid one landing on my head.

My first one in the wild, spotted on a local FB page. Submitted by them without preamble or even a please.

Saw this last night.
An incredible tale of grit and determination - and that’s just the filmmakers. Follows the progress of the Bakhtiari tribe across Persia in search of grass to feed their horses, cows and goats. Up and down mighty mountain ranges and across fast flowing rivers. Beating paths through snow on bare feet.
