Looking to build first army

Recently played tabletop for the first time and I think I'm commited to builing my first army.

Still deciding on 1k vs 2k point army.

But i was immedialy drawn to Raptors since I've always liked Ravenguard for thier tactics, as well as I'm pretty deep in the tactical space. I have a team I train with and do quite a bit of night vision activites.

My question for now is, what are the best models to use for putting the models together? Ive seen people use GW minis and some printed stuff as well.

Some links to kits or websites with proxy or print files would be great for me to browse.

Weak SMA connectors

Is there anything that can be done about these weak SMA connectors on Baofeng radios and antennas?

Is there a more robust solution the can be adapted or just replace them?

MANET radios and heat

Anybody running the Silvus, PS, or other MANET radios have issues with heat?

Wondering if they need to be mounted in a way that lets them dissipate heat or not.

A bit of positivity

Just reporting back that I have been hired after being let go in October of 2025. I had a lot interviews for positions that would have been great. I made it all the way to the end, but was ultimately not selected.

I got pretty discouraged but was able to work with a friend at his bussiness to make ends meet. I kept at it, kept interviewing, kept looking and most importantly, I kept positive and seeing the silver lining in being without work. I had more family time.

I start at my new position soon with the same title, at a company with an easier work process, and making approximately 20% more than previously.

This subreddit can be pretty doom and gloom, like most of reddit, but there is hope out there.
