Lack of enforcement on bus lane blocking

Read the recent u/streetsblognyc articles about lack of enforcement on bus lane blockers (31 July, 11 August) and just reminded me of my intention to check how many bus lane blockers I see on my short bike ride to work in Manhattan. Attached the catalogue from one ~15 min ride (with apologies for sometimes crooked images).

I counted 19 different vehicles blocking the bus lane on 2nd Avenue! Almost all of them in less than 25 blocks between 86th and 60th. This is an insane number given that NYPD wrote just 10 tickets for bus lane blocking in a week!

Would be so easy to have some agency just sweep the city make a huge haul of tickets in a week, publicize it very loudly on the media, and then we'd at least have some deterrence from these selfish people.

Summer Streets temp jobs?

Every year I cycle summer streets and see the staff out on the street holding stop signs to help direct traffic. Anyone ever done this job? How does DOT mobilize the hundreds (1000s?) of people for these jobs?

Probably too late for this year but I always thought this would be a fun job for my older kids to do and early some spending money. Any idea how they could apply for this [for next year]?

Street construction without bike lane detour - where it see actual permit?

So there was an excellent city council ordinance that required construction in the bike lane to be accompanied by a bike lane detour. I remember in past instances looking up and reading actual construction/streetwork permits and explicitly seeing the provision included that the permittee must create a temporary bike lane detour.

But somehow the DOT street permit system (https://nycstreets.net/Public/Permit/Search) no longer seems to link through to a PDF of the actual permit. All I can see if a summary of the permit details but not the actual permit itself (i.e. https://nycstreets.net/Public/Permit/Details/M012026187B27).

Am I looking in the wrong place? Where can I see the actual permit and confirm if has/doesn't have the requirement for a bike lane detour?

Why no waterfront greenway connector in Fort Washington Park

Can someone remind me why there is no waterfront connector in Fort Washington Park? I understand that this is Amtrak's right of way. But they have fencing along the tracks just like they do for the section north that does have a greenway piece (ending in the little loop on the attached map).

Surely the NYCEDC could purchase a right of way/easement for this segment right along the waterfront and pave a mixed use path on it. I dont see why Amtrak would reject it when they have negotiated one for a 1 mile already. It should have very minimal cost compared to the other segments of the greenway that NYCEDC is pouring money into. And it would avoid the greenway having a very unpleasant segment along the Henry Hudson Parkway.

Did NYC World Cup ticket lottery work for anyone? Zip code recognition failure.

I opened the regnyctix website at precisely 10 am. But I got stuck because it kept telling me that my very valid Manhattan zip code of 10128 was not recognized! It kept giving errors.

I tried scrolling the zip code list after selecting Manhattan it had only zip codes starting "100". Did anyone else have this experience?

TLC vehicle running red light and driving through bike lane - help with license plate

Had a giant Escalade drive through a protected bike lane and make an illegal left turn in front of me today. But my cheapo bike camera wasn't good enough to read the license plate after the naked eye so I could make a complaint to TLC.

Any idea of software that might be able to extract the plate from the video?

I dont own a car but rent one fairly frequently. So I got an EZ-pass to use when I have rentals. When I got the EZ-pass (years ago) the website explicitly said for customers using the EZ-pass transponder in rental cars, do not put the rental car license plate in your EZ-pass pass account.

Skip forward and I had my first instance of using a rental car to go into the congestion pricing zone in Manhattan. I had the EZ Pass installed in the windshield and confirm it is working fine (had a different toll charge properly for the GWB). But, the congestion charge doesn't go on my EZ-pass, and instead gets sent as a toll by mail; so the rental car company charges me a month later tacking on an administration fee. [I have the EZ Pass specially to avoid higher charges and admin fees on tolls.] Now I read the congestion charge website which says that even with EZ-pass it will get billed as toll by mail if your license plate is not tied to EZ-Pass account.

Does this mean the congestion pricing readers are not really EZ-pass readers and only do license plates? What I am supposed to do here? Am I now supposed to add every rental car license plate to my EZ-pass account and then remove them 2 days later?

Somehow I don't trust EZ-pass in doing that with real time changes and would expect to get charged other people's tolls regularly if I start adding every license plate from rental cars. Does any one else have experience with how to manage this?
