Never flew business class before and want to be able to at least so it once between Canada and Asia

I don’t feel my income is business class level yet. If that’s my goal, what should I do to get points or whatever?
- annual income 200k
- annual spend via credit card: 25-30k

Where do I start? Which cards? How to get there?

Did anyone go through the same changes in thought process?

We bought in 2023 with 700K mortgage (4.5%), older house that needed work. Paying almost 4K a month in mortgage. I used to dream of lowering it to 2K a month and that would be a lot of relief for monthly cash flow. I used to dream of pre-paying it at renewal to make this happen, if / when I have cash.

Fast forward to today, I have built a (new) 300K index portfolio. $100K of which is liquid (TFSA safe investment). I am hoping to get to 500K portfolio (with maybe 250K liquid) by the time we renew.

Surprisingly I no longer feel the urge to prepay mortgage to reduce monthly payment. I now have been thinking I would rather keep a lot of liquid investment in my portfolio instead. And I am saying this with the idea of investment going up and down as part of the daily life.

I am not sure if there’s learning here for people, just wondering what the change in thought process means? Or why was there such a change?

Side note but maybe important context: I have another portfolio of investment that is worth 1.3-1.5M this whole time.

Partner was laid off this week. Help us evaluate severance

We will be seeking legal advice from a lawyer after July 1. Just wanted to have some initial baseline.

Partner worked there a bit over 5 years. Middle management (with direct reports). 39 years old. Male. Partner was on disability leave for a serious medical condition (think cancer etc.). Returned to work full time for a year post disability leave. They mentioned “restructuring” “role elimination”. Just me and my role.

Large global Fortune 500. Payroll in Canada is $100M / year.

Offer: 5 months of severance. (20 weeks).

Ontario.

If there’s critical info missing, please ask, I will edit this post.

What is some type of specialty sharpening? (business idea)

In my are knife sharpening is very over saturated. I can see salon shears sharpening having some more market left for new joiners.

That makes me wonder what other type of sharpening that could be niche and unique? I have heard of sharpening for surgical tools…

Any idea is a good idea. Kindly share!

A roofer a few houses down street fixing his truck and bangjng things at this hour so loudly. I need to sleep, all doors and windows shut and it still is so loud. What can I do? Who can I call?

Its been going on for 5 hours! And obviously no regard for others.
