Time for something different

Hey friends - I’ve been riding Onewheels for about 6 years. I’m on my 7th board and probably around 50-60k total miles. I think I’m ready for my first non-FM board. Can y’all please recommend what would be best on my requirements here?

  1. Needs to be plug and play. I hate tinkering. I don’t mind initial set up but I don’t have much free time and I’d rather be riding than fixing my board. I’m more of a rider than a gear head. Can’t break down too often. I try locally get around 10k miles out of a board and would hope for something similar.

  2. Flat footpads. I love the feel of the original XR footpads. I ride 50-100 miles a day and concave is not comfortable.

  3. Flight fins system. I love my fins and the board needs to be compatable.

  4. Long range. I typically ride 25-30 miles at a time.

  5. Tire. I love the maxxis 5.5-6. Carvy treaded tires are for me. Do any boards come with something like that stock?

So that’s it. Is there an out of the box VESC board that would meet these requirements?

What is “Pro Gear” in 2026?

I used to play professionally in a handful of bands: casinos, orchestra pits, studio work, originals and covers. I’ve sold all my amps over the years and am now looking for professional work again.

I’m seeing a lot of requests for bass players saying “pro gear required”. What does that mean in 2026? I have an Ampeg BA-2010 which is great for smaller and quieter gigs but should I go pick up something else ahead of auditioning for heavier bands that plan on touring. Thanks all!

Best Lock?

Hey floaters - looking for lock recommendations. I’ve been riding for 5+ years and never leave my OWs out of my sight, but my high schooler is a unique situation where they won’t let him bring his board into the school. He uses it to get to and from. There is a “bike room” with racks that is locked during the school day so it’s fairly secure, but he needs to leave his board there and have it locked. We need a lock mainly for deterrence rather than protection. Any recommendations on something lightweight that could be easy for him to use? I’m thinking just a light weight cable bike like but open to all suggestions.
