I've been listening to a lot of The Caretaker's music lately, and it's been described as «hauntology» on music sites like RateYourMusic. What does that mean? I thought that term was used to describe all sorts of sound collages or plunderphonics, which are decidedly darker than the usual notions of the genre. Otherwise, how can one explain the fact that the most striking examples are the aforementioned Everywhere at the End of Time or William Basinski?
