When is adjunct hiring season?

Hello! I previously posted in here about email etiquette for cold emailing about adjuncting opportunities and got very helpful feedback. I was wondering when adjunct hiring is typically/ideally done. I know that there are a lot of horror stories of last minute scrambling, but when are chairs typically looking at this?

And also was wondering, how common is it to be hired then have the class cancelled?

I’m in the US.

What is it like to go into homes for EI/home health

Hello! I am happy at my job but just thinking about whether I’d ever want to do early intervention some day. Just wondering what it is like to go into homes? Was it something you were nervous about? I feel like I don’t see a lot of discussion of aspects of going into homes (like uncleanliness, pets, etc.) as a reason people dislike those jobs.

Sad about summer home with my kids ending

I’m going back to work soon (school job) and feeling sad about not getting to spend every day home with my own two little kids. Anyone else feeling this way? Any things you remind yourself of to feel better about it?

They are in a wonderful daycare and I am and will be fine. But just looking to see if anyone can relate.

I am very grateful that I have the flexibility in this job to work a school year.

Etiquette when looking for adjuncting jobs

Hello,
I am interested in trying to adjunct in my field and I am wondering about etiquette. I was thinking about just cold emailing department chairs to ask if they have any adjuncting positions available or if they keep a list of potential adjuncts. Is this considered poor etiquette to cold email?

For reference, my field is not over-saturated with people qualified to teach (or is not nearly as competitive as other fields). There are also closely related fields that offer courses in my area, so I would like to reach out to these related fields too.

I think that if I look around enough, I can probably find something. But I didn’t know if the cold email is rude/inappropriate. I know that there are sometimes listings through HR but I’m wondering if most adjuncting jobs are filled through personally contacting chairs?

I am U.S.-based.

Thank you!

Why did the cashier need to comment that I don’t need “beauty products”

I had an interaction at a store (a major chain) that ugh just bugged me and I keep thinking about. I was checking out, with my mom and two kids, and the cashier (a guy probably in his 50s or 60s) commented that I didn’t need the “beauty products.” I don’t remember what I was even buying exactly but I think some of it was nail polish. I feel bad because he was trying to be nice but soooo not his place (to comment on whether I needed ANYTHING I was buying). I just smiled to get through it because it was the easiest/fastest way to get out of there.

I can’t put my finger exactly on what about it bothered me so much. Is it the implication that women or attractive or confident women shouldn’t need “beauty products”? Is it that he was commenting on my looks or choices at all and that wasn’t his place?

Just wanted to vent and see if anyone could help me figure out exactly why I found it so irritating.

Type of gloves for hands at night to absorb cream/vaseline

Hello! I have been searching this subreddit for info about dry hands. I hope this question is allowed, please remove if not. Mine look a lot like the other pics of dry hands that have been posted on here. They crack when it’s dry here.

I had a question about using gloves over cream and Vaseline at night. I have tried cream (cerave) and Vaseline over it, and also just one or the other at night. I put cotton gloves on over it (from Amazon). It doesn’t really seem to help. I am going to ask my doctor too for recommendations but I was wondering- Does the type of gloves you use you get your skin to absorb the stuff on it matter? Is there something better than cotton?

Will changes with CPT codes impact school Medicaid reimbursement?

Hello! School SLP here. I have been following along the discussion of the changes to the CPT codes as well as I can but I don’t totally understand what is going on.

I was wondering if anyone who understands the situation better could explain if this will impact school Medicaid reimbursements? If so I am wondering if this will eventually have a negative impact on school SLP staffing.

Post-breastfeeding bras

Hello! I am (happily) not totally done breastfeeding but I am mostly done breastfeeding during the day.

Any favorite post/breastfeeding bras? I think I rashly threw away all of my old bras at one point. (Not like me at all!)

I don’t really wear any tops that are remotely tight now because I basically wear nursing camis and sometimes super unstructured nursing bras all the time.

I was thinking of getting some sports bras for summer and regular bras. I would like to not spend too much but I have a feeling that with bras, cost does correlate pretty well with quality.

Low language scores (and abilities?) due to attention issues

School SLP here and just wanted to put this topic out there and see what others have to say in a discussion. I don’t want to give too much of my an opinion or even any more specific questions. It’s just a topic that has been on my mind a lot lately.

Curious to see what others have to say on this topic.

Hello! I have been on a very highly modified low fodmaps diet for almost 15 years now (mainly just fully avoid onions and lactose and don’t eat a lot of garlic and avoid some other specific foods like lentils, and large portions of nuts.)

I bought a mixed bean salad mainly made out of chick peas, which I can eat small- medium sized portions of without an issue. But the weird thing is that it says “green onions” in the ingredient list but there is something in there that *looks* like regular onion (like a yellow or white onion).

I am so confused by this.

Can green onions look like this? I’ve cooked with them before and the ones I’ve seen don’t at all look like regular onions. Even the white part of a green onion looks different than a different onion.

Or can a white/yellow onion be labeled “green onion”?

There is nothing else in the ingredient list that would look like an onion.

I ate some and don’t feel like I ate onions. I mostly tried to avoid them but I’m sure I didn’t 100% about them.
