Oxford AMES interview tips?

Hi everyone! I’m applying to Oxford for AMES (Asian and Middle Eastern Studies) and was wondering if anyone who has interviewed for the course could share some advice.

I’m particularly curious about what the interviews are actually like, such as what kinds of questions or discussions usually come up, how much they focus on your personal statement, and whether there’s anything you wish you had prepared beforehand.

I know the interviews are mainly academic rather than something you can simply prepare answers for, but I’d really appreciate any tips on how to approach the preparation and what to expect.

Thanks!

Currently in B1 plateau, Help me.

I'm a 18 years old Korean studying Spanish, and I found myself in B1 plateau right now. I just had a quick mock test in online (Cervantes) and although I passed the B1 test, I don't feel like I have sufficient knowledge in grammar and vocab.

I think it will be really nice if I can get some resources regarding tips, recommended channels(preferably yt channels regarding modern-day LATAM history) to escape B1 plateau.

Any good youtube channels to learn LATAM history?

I'm a 18 years old high school student who's interested in learning spanish and modern day LATAM history. I'm currently in B1 plateau, and I really want to improve my spanish to B2/C1 level. I wonder if anyone knows any good spanish youtube channels that teach modern day LATAM history with relatively 'light' vocabulary.

My Peruvian trip experiences + Suggestion for my next LATAM trip?

Hello! I'm a South Korean who just had a beautiful 2 weeks trip to Peru. Honestly, I was kinda skeptical about the trip, since Peru was my second choice (Initially wanted to go to Portugal but had to switch it due to various reasons), but rn I absolutely love anything about Peru. I arrived at Peru with my intermediate spanish and genuinely got shocked by the immense hospitality of Peruvians. I only stayed at Lima because I wanted to be a part of the local community, and it was one of the best decisions. I started a day with a drink from Oxxo, alongside with La Republica and Empanada from the streets. During the day, I traveled various places of Lima and tried to have may conversations with locals as I could. Those wonderful nights at discos in El barranco should be mentioned as well JJDKSDKS.

Peruvians, truly the people with great hospitality. Especially as someone from one of the most cold-hearted countries in the world, I got a sense that people really treated me well in a way that's unimaginable in South Korea. In South Korea, the standard of being respected is ridiculously high. Someone has to be attractive, wealthy, smart, compassionate, and for some people, having all those characteristics are not enough. Meanwhile, In Peru, I got a sense that they are actually care about others and being polite&showing respect to the culture are more than enough to be respected.
Right now I'm writing taxi this post in my Indrive after handing over letters to a few hotel staff members, and even a small gesture from the staffs was so heart-warming to me, especially comparing to what i've been through in South Korea.

Anyway, I'm fully committed to visit Peru&Latam again! and it will be really nice if I can get any other recommendations, especially to the places where I can really enjoy an experience of becoming a part of the local community.

Social Anthropology job prospects? (Consulting / IB)

I'm applying this year and one of the degrees I'm seriously considering is Social Anthropology. I genuinely find the subject interesting, but I'm also trying to think realistically about career options afterwards.

I know consulting is generally more open to different degrees, but I'm not really sure how things work if you want to go into MBB, Big 4, strategy consulting, or even smaller boutique firms. Same goes for investment banking, whether that's bulge brackets or boutiques.

Would doing Social Anthropology put me at a noticeable disadvantage compared to someone studying Economics or PPE? Or is it more about the university you attend, internships, networking, and interview performance?

If anyone here studied anthropology (or knows someone who did), I'd be really interested to hear where they ended up working.

Not looking for reassurance, I just want an honest idea of what the job prospects actually look like.

I'm going to follow FC Twente in the next season, any tips for supporting an Eredivisie team?

Hello! I'm a high school student, and seriously considering to follow FC Twente in the next season.

A few months ago, While I was enjoying my FIFA career mode save, I saw FC Twente's logo and felt that the colour is really resonating with my heart since it was really similar with the color of the most popular strawberry milk in South Korea. So I decided to choose that team and it didn't really take much time for FC Twente to completely dominate my heart. Especially, I really enjoyed pure footballing moments from Sam Lammers, Pjaca, and Hlylsson.

And right now, after finishing few highlights from Youtube, I really want to follow FC Twente in the upcoming season! I know that we signed Wout Weghorst (loved his performance v Argentines), but are there more things that I should know? Also, it would be really nice if some of you guys can introduce me the best match of the last season!

Hello! I'm a student from South Korea. I happen to possess an immense interest in languages, especially when it's linked to history, culture, sports (football!!). That's the reason why i studied Spanish- because I was triggered by Latam's rich culture, people and history. As a result, I managed to obtain a certain level of Spanish.

After achieving a certain level of Spanish, I realized the fact that I was mesmerized by Brazil's rich culture and history. Especially, I was intrigued by Brazil's modern day history- since it shares a lot of similarities with Korean history.

I think it would be really nice if anyone can share their experiences of learning Portuguese- preferably as a native speaker of non-IndoEurasian languages.
