What do you listen to while doing stuff?

For some reason I don’t need to listen to anything at work. Sometimes I listen to music to pump me up/help me lock in while doing a repetitive task. But I actually have to pause it if I’m doing any thinking whatsoever.

At home is a WHOLE different story. I can’t even shower without “watching” a video. I don’t really understand why because I can obviously manage at work but I can’t get myself to do anything at home without watching/listening to something. For a while it was House MD (never finished the show, 3 episodes to go a year later lol), I used to like youtube commentary videos but nowadays they’re a bit too… serious for me? I’ve been on a chubbyemu kick but his videos are going to run out soon and are getting repetitive.

The other problem is that I really prefer videos for whatever reason even if I’m not watching them? And finding “the right one” can be difficult, time consuming, and distracting. Also they make my phone battery drain quickly. Music isn’t enough. Podcasts CAN be enough but I get bored of them quickly. And I’m very particular, like sometimes I don’t like someone’s voice or there are too many ads or the guest isn’t as great as I wanted them to be.

The thing I realized is that I need so much stimulation that I want to be able to read while doing tasks. This is not possible, obviously, so I need a new solution. Right now I have to put on a video just to get out of bed on my days off and I hate it. For the record I do take meds. Help!

Are you superstitious?

I don’t consider myself a superstitious person, I’m fine with spilling salt, walking under a ladder, and I think black cats are good luck. 13 is a fun number. However I REFUSE to get up on the wrong side of the bed. Not sure why. Just feels super wrong.

I feel like people our age are similar? Most peers I know only have some superstitions/rituals because their grandma taught them or whatever. Most people do knock on wood which I think is fun and cute.

Soooo do you have any superstitions? Do you consider yourself a superstitious person?

(PS I watched Something Very Bad is Going to Happen recently and it really put in my mind how superstitions can ruin someone’s whole vibe. Like he didn’t hold his breath for a full minute while driving and she tried to HOLD HIS MOUTH CLOSED because it was “bad luck” to breathe in a tunnel. Tbf she *was* actually cursed though.)

IDL “cop cars”

For some reason, ford explorers, dodge chargers, etc. try to tailgate me all the time. I usually speed, but if I can’t tell if they’re a cop (likely because they’re so far up my ass that I can’t see the roof rails or front plate), I’m not going to speed. I’m not risking getting pulled over because you want to go fast in your “cop car.”

If you want other people around you to speed for your convenience, get a car that cops don’t have, or at least make it clear that you’re not a cop by backing the fuck off so I can figure out whether you are or not.

Has anyone had an issue with whole milk raising their cholesterol?

As you can see, I’m Whole Milk #1. I usually drink non-homogenized because a) it’s soooooo delicious and b) I’ve been trying to gain weight for ages and (whole) milk is the only thing that has done it. At this point I’m pretty addicted to milk tbh, but I never drink more than a half gal/day (probably like 1-1.5 liters on average). And it’s keeping my weight up, though I’m still not the ideal weight for my height. I have some trouble with eating and I need to consume AT LEAST 2300 cals/day in order to just stay my current weight with my fast metabolism and frequent exercise.

However, I got a blood test recently and my cholesterol was slightly high. I exercise frequently, so I’m pretty sure the saturated fat is the problem. If I drink regular whole milk or 2% would it help?? Or do I just have to cut down on my intake? My doctor hasn’t said anything about the results yet so idek if it’s a big issue or not, but I’m sure my increasing milk intake is what is raising my cholesterol. Is 2% milk even good??? Help

My cat makes my procrastination worse (cat picture included)

I have a lot of trouble with task initiation so often I’ll be sitting on my phone or reading during a transition time and promise myself I’ll get up at a certain time to do the Next Thing.

Let’s say I’m getting up at 8, baby girl Strudel comes waltzing in at 7:57 and plops down right on my lap, purring and begging for pets. She gets so comfy immediately and basically turns into a purring adorable rock. And I know her, she can sit in the same spot for over 5 hours without moving, so it’s not like I can just get up a little bit and she’s like “ok lap pets are done” (my other cat is like this, she has a very short attention span and is very skittish for no reason).

HOW DO I GET UP WITH THIS LITTLE LUMP ON ME. I feel so bad being like “yeah I’ve been sitting here for 20 mins but now that you’re here I get up.” It feels so mean. And this is actually a problem like every day. She has the worst timing. Help 😞

IDL blood draws

I used to get my blood drawn all the time as a (sickly) kid. They were done by (seemingly) random doctors and nurses that were already at my primary doctor’s office and they hardly ever hurt or left a bruise. I didn’t mind getting them at all.

Now? I have to go to an entirely different facility where there is someone who draws blood every day, for multiple hours a day. And it HURTS. It hurts going in, it hurts while it’s happening, it hurts for a while afterwards. I have very visible veins. You’d think they’d have it down by now. Maybe it hurts more because they use a different needle now than when I was a kid?

It sucks to have more and more (reasonable!) anxiety about health tests and appointments because it genuinely does suck every time it happens.

And don’t even get me started on piss tests. I’m just standing there holding my warm cup of piss, waiting for someone to call my name so I can put it somewhere. It’s so awkward and dehumanizing.
