Happy Sassy Sixteenth Lexi! A birthday against all odds.

This little fluffnugget has her 16th birthday today. We found her as a very ill 5 week old stray and she's been a part of my life every since. Over 5 years ago she was fading with what turned out to be diabetes. And she has the bad luck of being a hard regulator and she has had several scary episodes of diabetes induced comas that hit without warning. She was given a prognosis of one to two years after diagnosis.

And without the good and wise folk of r/FelineDiabetes she would not be here anymore.

Then came artritis, neuropathy and lately some cognitive decline. Not to mention her chronic respiratory issues. She is held functioning by 7 supplements, 2 medication and the finest food we can find. We play a game of days and months, and have been playing it for so long that sometimes it really wears on us to be honest. You can only feel anticipatory grief for so long.

But through it all she still is my spicy baby who is secretly extra sweet.

I called the vet today because my pasteurella positive boy (ex stray, probably dumped because of the infection) was mildly off, mostly less playful and a look of not 100% in his eyes.

Vet assistant immediately goes: "o, well especially before the weekend we sure have to see him, because rabbits are funky that way." So the vet just added me onto a full agenda and will see me at the end of the workday.

With a glorious mishmash of previous themes we are still on theme for this month somehow.
