Israeli military clears soldiers over Gaza strike that killed Zomi Frankcom

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has cleared its personnel of any criminal wrongdoing in a 2024 strike on a humanitarian convoy which killed an Australian woman.

The IDF said there were serious failures that led soldiers to falsely identify a Hamas fighter was travelling in the convoy.

However, it was concluded the IDF commanders' decisions "did not raise reasonable suspicion of criminal misconduct".

Australia AML Reform - Tailored training places an undue burden on reporting entities - asking the hivemind on how to execute this

So the Australian AML Regulator, AUSTRAC, have implemented reforms this year asking for:

>Your policies must ensure the training you provide is tailored and appropriate to the person based on:

>-the functions they perform

>-the ML/TF risks relevant to their functions

>-their specific responsibilities under your AML/CTF policies.

>-The training must be delivered in a way that’s easy for them to understand.

>We expect you to do the following and outline how you do so in your AML/CTF policies:

>-develop a training plan and schedule tailored training to

>-different roles and their relevant ML/TF risks

>-include updates on AML/CTF regulatory changes and emerging risks in training material

>-include steps taken to make sure your personnel are getting training

>-use a register to record completion dates and track when further training is due

>-monitor the effectiveness of your training

>-evaluate whether personnel are retaining knowledge from your training and applying it appropriately.

I find that this new obligation is placing quite a considerable burden on reporting entities, especially when we have companies trimming fat left, right and centre and are unwilling to invest additional resources for a specific training role to carry out this obligation.

So a 'hypothetical' (cough, cough) question to the hive mind; if you were a high risk reporting entity that has a mature AML department with multiple different departments and roles, how would you tailor and execute the training, or would you lump everything into a single e-learning or teams meeting with PPX and call it a day?

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

BHP drops case against MWM as proceedings turn to MinterEllison - Michael West

In a Federal Court hearing on Thursday, BHP discontinued suppression proceedings against Michael West Media. MWM signed an undertaking agreeing to keep stories, already removed by orders of the Court, suppressed. The stories relate to a 2024 settlement conference between injured coal miner Simon Turner and BHP’s lawyers MinterEllison.

The Court subsequently dismissed BHP’s originating application against Michael West Media. No order as to costs was made between the parties.

However, the underlying dispute between BHP and Turner continues, with the former BHP coal miner attempting to restrain MinterEllison from acting for BHP on the basis of an alleged conflict of interest connected to the June 2024 settlement conference.

The details of Turner’s allegations cannot presently be reported because of suppression orders made by the Court.

Australia is manufacturing explosives for Israel’s atrocities - The Shot

Two factories, one in NSW, at Mulwala, and one in Victoria, in Benalla, manufacture the munitions that end up inside the shells, bullets, missiles and bombs used by the US-Israeli death machine in its expansionist, genocidal campaigns.

The two explosive plants are owned by the Australian government and leased out to French arms company Thales. In 2020, under the Morrison Government, Thales signed a $1.1 billion deal to operate the facilities for the next decade. Like a Russian nesting doll of evil corporations, Thales owns a smaller company called Australian Munitions, which oversees the local end of this operation. The raw explosives produced there are said to be of such high quality that they are in demand across the world.

Most of these trucks head to the ports in Australia’s major cities, including Melbourne and Sydney. From there, the munitions are shipped to either the United States (for assembly and on-shipping to Israel), or to Singapore, where South-East Asian based arms dealers purchase the munitions on behalf of the Israeli government. From this trading hub in Singapore, the munitions go on to eviscerate thousands of men, women and children unlucky enough to be born in the path of the Zionist entity.

On the all too rare occasion when Penny Wong, Richard Marles, or Anthony Albanese are asked sticky questions around the issue of supplying the IDF, you might have noticed the common insertion of the word “directly” into their denials, e.g. “We do not sell weapons or ammunition directly to Israel”. This is why. Australia sells explosives to Israel indirectly

We are producing more explosives than we ever have, we are licensing permits for military exports to Israel, and sources inside this network have confirmed to The Shot how the explosives are transported, where it is headed, and that the Government is aware of all this.

We have also learnt that the Mulwala plant receives attention from officials highly unlikely to be concerned with the latest in local sports shooting. BAE Systems, a British arms and security company, has a permanent staff member stationed at the plant. NASA has sent officials to visit. And four years ago, several representatives from the Indian Head Naval Base in Maryland, USA, stayed at the factory over several days. Facility employees reportedly thought this visit was unusual under the circumstances of worldwide covid lockdowns.

A federal court judge has ordered Michael West Media to remove two articles from its website and suppressed a cross-claim filed by injured former BHP coal miner Simon Turner.
