A 21st CENTURY COUNTRY CANNOT DEFEND ITSELF WITH A 20TH CENTURY MINDSET
(100% original creation, independently created and compiled)
Around 70% of Botswanas Army equipment IS OUTDATED
Every year the BDF (Botswana Defense Force) parades with equipment at best from the 90s
No military equipment was ever made in Botswana, Should a country expected to compete with the 21st century be like this?
im sorry but if you believe that in the geographical location of Botswana, no event requiring us to bare arms will never take place ever, then i dont know what to think about you. You're telling me that in 20, 50, 100, 500, or even 1,000 years, nothing will ever happen?
We should be perfecting the ability to make weapons. Heck, as a Physics, Math, and Computer Science hobbyist and enthusiast, I believe that if you understand how to make something and keep developing that knowledge, you can build the capability to produce what you need when the time comes even when resources and equipment are limited. What's stopping Botswana or a Motswana from building their own defence industry? Why should every pula spent on defence leave the country when some of it could create Jobs and industries we are missing? I for one would love to work in a Botswana made defence-aerospace company. The opportunity is right there to build an industry for profit and protect the country. Hmmm
But as a strong capitalist let me not get too ahead of myself i really cant expect Botswana out of all nations to build everything, Hopefully Botswana can create a great environment and investment for private citizens to do so, (if they are any) (if they are even any skilled engineers too). But i guess we will never knowwwww. The ones we have are okay. But a bit far to little. Anyways.
A fool only builds after crises. You can be a "peaceful" nation but still invest and create heavy weapons. The most peaceful person is not just one who cannot fight But the one who can crush the unpeaceful. By the time something catastrophic happens it will already be too late. Be wise as a serpent and innocent as a dove.
Belgium was neutral before both World Wars, yet Germany invaded it in 1914 and again in 1940. Denmark had a long peaceful period but was invaded by Nazi Germany in 1940. Norway was peaceful and neutral, but invaded by Germany in 1940. Finland was peaceful and relatively small, but faced the Soviet Union in the Winter War 1939 to 40. The point is you never know what coming the list is very longg and has happened in ALL continents. The idea of a peaceful neutral country being threatened by rouge forces.
What is gonna happen to make Botswana wake up? I'm waiting to find out, hopefully its not at the cost of our own lives and nation.
in your opinion how is the foreseeable future looking?
drawn, compiled, and created in good faith. Made to raise awareness
Economy is not strong at all. It reduced hard in 2024 and 2025 because diamonds (still about 80% of exports) got hammered by weak demand and lab grown ones are real competition. Debt jumped almost to 40% of GDP. Recovery is looking very slow.
Jobs are the real problem. Unemployment is sitting between 21 to 27%. For the youth it’s insane, its close to 40% for 18 to 35 year olds. Mining doesn’t create many jobs and the private sector outside diamonds is still way too weak.
Industry and development are thin. Manufacturing is tiny. Weve been talking diversification for years but the results are slow. This new BETP plan sounds really ambitious, but right now its still mostly on paper.
Knowledge and skills are a problem. many children leave primary without solid literacy/numeracy. Junior and senior secondary pass rates remain mediocre. the education system still produces too many graduates for a job market that doesn’t exist, and too few people with technical skills employers actually needs. (many people just go overseas who could be very beneficial, sadly most of what they study for is not found in Botswana. I originally wanted to be an Aerospace Engineer because I’m insanely great at math and physics. But the institutions and jobs for that field are basically non existent here, so I’m stuck. If I study and work elsewhere for a long time, that would be good for my career. But as a patriot, its disappointing. If I come back and there’s still nothing, I’d basically be forced to stay away. And if there’s still no real industry when I return, the only real option left might be to start something of my own (hoping i do that). But what do you know.
Safety is kinda mixed. It’s not that bad, but crimes such as GBV are a huge concern and still very high.
Culture is still very solid compared to many places. But some parts of it need to be left behind and become a bit more progressive. But we are more open minded so i trust this might change in the foreseeable future, because social cohesion generally holds up better than average.
Far left trans people we are not transphobic stop brigading.
made in good faith
OMFG im not against trans or anything but why are Trans FAR left wingers obsessed with this sub?
they only know the words trans and transphobic
Should foreign aid be abolished so we can improve whats lacking?
I made this to show how foreign aid can look helpful on the surface while creating problems in the long run. My point aint that every form of foreign aid is automatically bad, but that a country shouldn't become dependent on outside assistance to develop. Infact its hard to develop if your constantly being showered with aids and gifts as you may forget to improve the sector.
We need to stand in our own feet. At what point do we stop receiving medicines as donations and start producing them ourselves?
its almost ridiculous we cant be eternal beggars.
What is the future of this nation in 20 years?
Made this, Botswana neeeds a GREAT lock in
Anyone supporting the killings, beatings, and abuse done on illegal immigrants is disgusting and vile.
(Actually created in good faith)
I fully support deportation of people who are in the country illegally. As a right winger That position is not up for debate. But
What is disturbing is how common it has become in some spaces to treat EVERY act of cruelty or abuse against illegal immigrants as something normal or even something to celebrate. That is dehumanization. Heck even celebrating citizens who get harmed by simply protesting against it
Legal immigrants and citizens who simply look like the people get targeted and even casually insulted by default. Thats just lazy, stupid, and unjust. No one chooses the circumstances of their birth or the color of their skin.
Yes tighter borders and visa restrictions need to be applied but denigrating people who want to survive is crazy. Especially if they dont commit crimes.
How can you expect people with Such hate in their hearts create something meaningful for the general society?
Treat people with dignity
Illegal immigration is a Crime and should not be tolerated
Yes 😂
No sovereign nation allows illegal immigration. If you allow 1 illegal immigrant to live in your country peacefully you allow all illegal immigrants. The whole "African brothers and sisters" would not work if you put burden on other African brothers and sisters resources. And does not do Africa Benefit if you do not want to improve your nation.
Rather than slave your life away with dirt minimum jobs. Which could have been given to struggling citizens.
Heck if a illegal alien is arrested tax payer Money is spent feeding and clothing them. And if a illegal alien opens a business the business does not naturally pay tax so they never and do not benefit the economy in any way.
This is concerning every video this guy has is about Trump its been that way for YEARS.
Sure you can disagree with someone. But this is obsession.
Communists
if every one gets their needs handed to them for doing nothing, it helps grow lazyness. Which will not work well. (created in Good faith)
Probably gonna destroy our ears
Created with Kindness and Good faith. ( With LOVE)
Will i become a Troll if i Troll on reddit?
i have been asking myself this question for years. In Trolls, Trolls are little creatures whose whole existence revolves around happiness, music, dancing, friendship, and getting hunted by Bergens
BUT. If I spend enough time trolling people, at what point does trolling stop being something I do and become something I am? what even makes a Troll a Troll? Is it the hair? The music? Living in a tree? The cheerful personality? On what basis would you agree being a troll is? If Poppy switched bodies with a Bergen. And her personality and everything about her except the hair and size is different. Is she still a Troll? Is being a Troll something you are, or something you do? I can run without being a runner. I can lie without being a liar. I can steal once without becoming a thief. So can I troll without being a troll? Where's the line? At what point does something you repeatedly do become part of what you are? And how much trolling can i do to be somewhat of a Real troll.
(this was one of my fav shows growing up)
The future of my country should be in the hands of my own people.
There are people who will get genuinely offended by this statement.
But its true. Sometimes I think we forget what a country is supposed to be. Over many generations, people build institutions, communities, infrastructure, make laws, build traditions, make and improve businesses, and a national identity. And pass it on to the next generation for them to do the same thing and so on. Thats what built so many great nations and empires.
True, Botswana has plenty of problems of its own. We have certain cultural issues we need to change, institutions that need to improve, economic problems that needs to be addressed, and social issues that we cannot simply blame on outsiders. BUT Those problems we have to confront as Batswana.
It doesn't matter how far behind we think we are compared to other countries. It doesn't matter how much work needs to be done. We cannot use our current position as an excuse to stop building ourselves as Batswana. Japan, Korea and Singapore built themselves from their own people.
We need to actually build and rebuild. Our nation from our industries, infrastructure, to even fix our country education, our skills and our culture .
We shouldn't be so focused on what foreigners are doing for us that we ignore our own failures. If someone from another nation keeps on doing something for many years and we cannot find a single Motswana to replace or learn their skilll during that time we would have failed.
At the same time, we shouldn't be afraid to discuss illegal immigration, I mention this topic all the time lol. But if you cannot genuinely find any Batswana Artisans or builders, and even replace cheap labour with technology, then we have failed as a nation.
We shouldnt be afraid to discuss population changes, foreign ownership, foreign investment, land, businesses and control of important parts of our economy. The goal shouldn't simply be to fully have foreigners come here and build Botswana for us. Where are the Batswana artisans? Where are the Batswana workers? Where are the Batswana Businessmen? ( They are there sure but is it at it's required level?)
Botswana should actually foster an environment, that helps make sure that any job a Motswana is not qualified for at the moment They should learn to be, That's how historically we managed to manage this country after the British left. They kept them long enough while training citizens to take over till they didn't need them no more.
Foreign investment is useful. Immigration can have benefits. But none of these things should come at the expense of Botswana's ability to determine its own future. (i am 100% for foreign investment But if 100 percent of our businesses and sectors are from those then we would be a host to parasites. It is difficult for the country to directly benefit and peoples chances of competing with established businesses from scratch are very low. Those businesses will just be a money mule for whoever owns them, and it would be difficult for Batswana to get experience in getting and building it's own things to compete with the world (When are we going to have strong Native businesses and sectors which are worldwide?) Most as we currently speak have incredibly little spending power.
There is nothing wrong with wanting Botswana to remain a country where Batswana have great stakes in our own economy, have citizens who can and eventually replace foreign workers, in skill we don't have. Or even in jobs we rob our minimum wage workers off, they also have families and themselves to feed. So why prioritize cheap labour from the outside? When we have thousands of Batswana who can do it? What happened to Botswana first?
The nation is called Botswana for a reason because Batswana have to come first, it doesn't have to mean right away, but we should be making an environment that makes sure that happens without any real issues.
The people who built this country before us had a responsibility to leave something behind for us citizens. We have the same responsibility for our children, children's children and children's children's children. And so on.
And like I said I have no problems with foreign businesses But if we don't have native businesses to compete with them. Then it's genuinely over for us. That is economic colonization.
We should fix our own problems, if we don't take responsibility for the future of our own country, who will?
Is Botswana stuck in a development Dilemma?
Things like engineering, technology, research, architecture, music, film, art, and innovation all require funding and support before they can become successful industries. However, government money comes from economic activity, so if the economy is not generating enough revenue, it becomes harder to fund these areas.
If Botswana does not invest in creativity, science, and new industries, how do we diversify our economy?
But if Botswana spends heavily on these areas and they do not quickly generate returns, does that reduce the money available for other important needs?
A country cannot wait until it is rich before developing the capabilities that make it rich.
This is what i have noticed about this in detail
- You need money to diversify the economy.
2.But the money for that investment has to come from somewhere. The government doesnt have unlimited money. Most of its money ultimately comes from economic activity, and if that economy is small and still heavily dependent on a few sectors like mining and tourism, there is little room to keep putting huge amounts of money into risky long term projects.
3.The obvious solution to invest heavily in new industries, is risky.
The government could spend millions trying to build a technology sector, creative industry, research institutions or manufacturing, and it might take years before any of that actually makes money back. And while you're waiting for those investments to pay off, the same money could have gone toward roads, schools, healthcare, water, housing, or other needs.
- But not investing creates another problem.
If Botswana keeps focusing only on todays problems and the industries we already have, then how are we ever supposed to build the industries that will create more wealth tomorrow? We can't keep waiting until we are rich enough to diversify, 'cause diversification is part of how we become rich in the first place
its like a Trap and The Botswana Government understands it VERY well.
Botswana is already trying to diversify its economy. We have NDP 12, the National Transformation Strategy, local procurement programmes, youth enterprise funding, and policies aimed at developing manufacturing, agriculture, tourism, ICT and the creative industries.
I must say most of what they say and are planning to do go in the right direction but there are a couple of things they just dont outright do or mention. For example, saying “develop manufacturing” isn't enough. What specific manufacturing capabilities are Botswana going to build? Which companies? What products? What technology? What export markets? What infrastructure? What skills? And What happens if the companies receiving support remain uncompetitive?
i don't disagree with the sectors NDP 12 has chosen. My concern is whether Botswana is doing enough to build the environments for those sectors to properly thrive?
But we will see really. (Welll while actually working and doing our part)
But in yalls opinion what do you think of how Botswana can escape the dilemma
Why are Europeans so tolerant?
There's millions of illegal immigrants and legal ones who do not adhere to western values. And yet there are people who will fight tooth and nail for them. Governments basically don't care. And you'll be called a racist and bigot for pointing it out?
IT'S NOT RACIST OR BIGOTED to say "I don't care who you are but, the future of my country should be in my own people's hands"
I notice the same with Canada too.
Have you seen these suspects around?
This is done in good faith, Ukraine and Palestine are heavily "supported" and "sympathized" for a performance.
