Free hiking & camping gear

I'm giving away:

*Unused 2-person Eureka Timberline tent, in box.

*Used 2-person Eureka Timberline tent.

*Unused Osprey 70L pack.

* 1 and 2-burner Coleman gas lantern heads with carrying case.

I'm giving them away because I'm getting older and have to adapt my backpacking and camping to my capabilities. Not posting pics because you can easily look them up online. They're free because I want them to go to a good home, not a second-hand store. Contact me through Reddit if interested.

Homeless camp?

I have some winter clothing and bedding to get rid of. In the past, I've dropped them off at a local homeless camp. Is there such a place in the Johnstown area? Thanks.

Tomatoes with "ribs"

Here in USDA zone 6, I planted plum, beefsteak and cherry tomatoes. The plums look good, but the beefsteak and cherry, still green, and growing ridges or ribs, sort of like a pumpkin. Still golf ball size. Is this normal? Thanks!

The new DCNR website

Has anyone noticed how clumsy and frustrating the new DCNR website is? I was trying to find a map of a certain trail in a certain park, and I had to keep searching and re-searching. Eventually it takes you to a GIS map, which is not very useful as a hiking-trail map. I encourage everyone to visit the site and see how long it takes you find anything, if ever. If I'm missing anything, please set me straight.

Boulevard Cafe Sunday brunch

We have been there several times, and it's usually good. We went for their Sunday brunch, and it was so bad I wondered if something had changed. We both had eggs benedict; her egg was hardboiled; my English muffin was literally black and burned, the bacon was at least a day old and reheated, the hash browns were cheap frozen ones, barely any Hollandaise sauce. I don't know how anyone let those plates leave the kitchen. They gave us a $6.68 discount, because we didn't want to wait for a new order. I ate most of mine, except for the burned muffin; she just ate one egg. Like I said, they used to be good; has something changed?

Wolf Rocks Trail, Gallitzen State Forest

We went for a hike here, off Rt 56; it's not difficult but was disappointed to see all the graffiti spray painted on the rocks. Not posting a pic because I don't want to "honor" the vandals. But who thinks they need to bring a can of spray paint on a hike in the woods to a local landmark?

Venus and Jupiter at sunset question

I am enjoying the beautiful dance of these two planets right after sunset. But where are these two planets in relation to Earth now, that I can see both so close together, and getting closer? Looks like Venus is "rising."

Question about evening sky

In the west, right after sunset, there are two stars or planets low in the sky, quite bright. There is a third, much fainter object to the right. These three objects form a shallow inverted isosceles triangle. What am I looking at? Northern hemisphere.

Local pond or lake to practice flycasting

I'm new to flyfishing and looking for a Johnstown pond or lake to practice. I know about Wilmore, Hinckston, etc., but looking for something closer to home. Doesn't matter if it has big fish or not, little sunfish are ok. Thanks.

Laurel Highlands Trail

I would like to section hike the LHT, but 6-8 miles a day is the most I can do. There is a 10-mile stretch between Rt 271 and Rt 30. Are there places for LNT semi-stealth camping between miles 57 and 46? I don't make a fire, and tarp camp. Thanks!
