MACRO (Multidisciplinary Acute Care Research Organization) Program

Does anyone know if the MACRO research program is only available for pitt students? Can someone a year out of undergrad apply if they wanted to?

Advice for Self Studying MCAT as a Non Trad

Hi all! I'm about a year out of undergrad and currently work full time as a data scientist, but I've decided on a career pivot and want to go med school.

In undergrad I took all the pre reqs except Physics I, Physics II, and Biochem, so I do plan on taking those. But because of the timing of everything, I'd have to take those courses next year.

In the mean time, I wanted to start studying for the MCAT. Goal is above a 510. Issue is, i forgot almost everything from all the pre req classes I took - not kidding. Especially for Gen chem I/II and Orgo I/II. Because of that, I'd essentially have to reteach/self study everything, plus start doing that for physics and biochem content (which I've never seen). But I think with gen chem I and all of bio it'll be a bit easier for me to teach myself since I do remember the foundations of those courses.

I plan on starting to study for the MCAT now (Fall 2026) and taking the exam by late 2027. That way I'd apply to matriculate in the 2029.

My question is, do you think I can get my target score if I self study the hell out of the content? With timing, I don't want to do a post bacc or masters. I'm def NOT some prodigy student, as it takes me a bit to pick up on material, but in the end I do. I can pull good grades but it takes me a good amount of effort to do so, and i'm willing to put in the effort.

Any advice or comments? How would you guys recommend content review/studying for someone in my position? I got free pdfs of all the kaplan books and started khan academy. Also learning how to use anki.

Thanks!

Getting Clinical Hours/Experience while working full time

Hi all! So I recently decided that I want to do a career pivot and go into medicine. I currently work full time 9-5, 5 days a week, and was looking for some ways to get clinical experience/hours. I've looked into PCT and Med Assistant jobs and think they might be the right fit given that they offer part time/casual flexibility. But do they require trainings that are exclusively during the work week? I don't have experience in either fields but am willing to get BLS certified.

If they do, are there any workarounds? Like can I take the trainings after work or on weekends?

Also does anyone in general know any ways that I can get clinical experience while working full time. I will to do overnight shifts, weekends, etc.

Thanks!

PCT/MA jobs while working full time

Hi all!

I currently work full time but am looking to pivot my career into medicine. I know that I need to get clinical hours so I was looking at part time/casual MA/PCT opportunities.

Do you think these roles would align with my schedule? I'm willing to work overnight shits/weekends. But I heard that they have some required training thats only offered during the work week? Is that true??

Also any general advice on how to get clinical experience/hours for med school while working full time would be great! I'm currently in Pittsburgh
