Let’s return to Dark Sun and Ravenloft at once!
Following ledfox's lists that recommend great, little, hand-sized weird texts, I read "Xstabeth" (2020) by David Keenan. It took me some time to figure out (or convince myself I had figured out) something about the novel. In order to explain what it was, I found myself needing to compare it to Apuleius' bawdy novel from ancient Rome.
Has anyone else read either of these works? Please let me know what you think!
This is a detail of the Shadowlands map. I guess Banemaw, whether real or not, at least has a lair!
I’m just posting this as a follow-up to its companion post about the Core-tolerant update to the setting, which I like.
You want a Core? Fine! You don’t? Fine! Let a thousand flowers bloom.
So a couple weeks ago, I chimed in among the predictions for RtHW, specifically claiming that, while the Core will not be re-canonized, they *were* going to pitch the idea of *Cores* and *Clusters* for the sake of larger adventures. I thought they’d mention The Grand Conjunction, but instead we got some direct references to 2e lore; otherwise my prediction was correct. Behold!
Hey everyone!
I really want to hear from other people who read and enjoyed *Black Brane.* I am proud of what I think I figured out, but I can’t escape the feeling that I missed something really fundamental. What are your thoughts?
"Black Brane" by Michael Cisco is a masterpiece of weird fiction, unreliable narration, and conceptual play with themes of nothingness and nonbeing. Read it. Read it multiple times!
Here's my video essay, which is just now premiering on YouTube.

By now, if you’ve read *Black Brane* a couple of times, you probably have a theory about what happened to Gross, i.e. what put him in the hospital, as well as which event, or series of events, he’s desperately trying *not* to remember.
So let’s share! What are you thoughts on the secrets of *Black Brane*?
