New Subreddit for Sim Racing Highlights

Hello!

Just wanted to share a subreddit made specifically for sim racing highlights, be it LeMans Ultimate or other racing sim titles. It is a place to share your best moments for others to see.

If you've got an unbelievable overtake sent from a different postcode and made it cleanly, head on over to r/SimracingSpotlight; for every incident-ridden moment, there are also good/epic racing moments that deserve a spot under the lights!

The first few posts are racing clips from LMU!

Note: It is a relatively new subreddit, so if you know a friend with an epic racing highlight clip, tell them about this subreddit so they can share it with others!

Quick Question on Post Approvals

Hi, I am new to running a subreddit.
Just wondering about the post's approvals, (no one have posted on the subreddit yet, only I am posting a few example posts) like I get the Approve or Reject button after posting, I am not entirely sure if that means that I have to approve every post for it to be able to be seen by others OR does the post get posted, and people can see it until a moderator rejects it, and it doesn't really matter to keep clicking approve for each post?

Need some help with component selection.

Hi,

Bit of context before getting to component selection:
I bought a desktop PC way back in 2018, rocking an Intel i5 7th Gen and dual GTX 1050ti, 16GB 2x8 DDR4 2666Mhz RAM, 1TB hard drive, and a 500GB SATA SSD. It has been a great experience compared to my potato laptop at the time. Now, my current laptop has better specs than it (i7 12th Gen, RTX3060 laptop, 32 DDR5 4500MT/s, 1TB NVMe Gen 4). For various reasons, I was not able to build a desktop earlier (Life happened; the laptop was enough to get by since 2023); now I am trying to get an upgrade for the desktop, more of an overhaul than a replacement of components on the old setup, but it seems like the worst time to build a dream PC.

I technically can still work with the laptop, but I have hit its utility limit (thermal throttling), tried undervolting the GPU, and it worked to an extent, but with minimal effect. Like CAD modelling is fine (until it reaches a certain component count), then CFD results take hours to calculate (even with modest mesh fidelity settings; any lower, it just doesn't interact with the smaller features). Games run fine as long as it's set to Medium-Low (for consistent 60 FPS at 1920x1200, even though the monitor goes up to 120Hz, 3200x2000); the laptop's fan runs like a jet engine (My family members thought it was raining when I was running CAD/CFD simulations/Gaming). Don't get me wrong, I still love the laptop; it has a great-looking OLED display and still performs well (although the battery seems to be dying rather quickly).

Anyways, I am looking to build an entirely new PC (while turning the old one into a shared family PC). I have been scouring the web, looking at different forums and reviews on YouTube. Here is my dream PC Part list:

CPU: 9950X3D (for the AM5 platform) | RAM: 32GB DDR5 5600Mhz CL36

GPU: RTX5080 Noctua Edition (for the CUDA cores) | MB: Asus ProArt X870E Wifi7

PSU: Seasonic 1600W Noctua Edition (Efficiency + Futureproof + Great Overhead)

Storage: 2TB Gen 4 NVMe M.2 (maybe + 1TB HDD) | Case: Antec Flux Pro Noctua Edition

Cooler: AIO Noctua NL-LC1-42 | No RGB, just want a quiet PC

I already have good peripherals and a dual monitor setup (1080p 27", another is 1440p 32").

Yea... I know it's very much a Noctua Build; obviously, I have to pay the premium for the build quality and low-noise features. But damn, it hurts my wallet, and I am still a little uncertain about it. Hence why I need some help with selecting the components. I already have the RAM and storage (2TB NVMe).

The thing I am worried about is the Motherboard and the PSU; is it over spec? Would a B850 do fine? Would an 850W be fine? Should I select a different AM5 CPU and/or GPU combo to lower the cost? I'm committing to the case and cooler.

Stewards Opinion Required

Race Context:

I am the Ferrari; it's the 1st lap of the race. I got a good run down the straight and went for a move on the Aston. I was deep on the brakes and saw the Porsche ahead. At this point, I was focused more on the Porsche ahead and tried to turn into the corner. Then, the contact happened, and I caught my slide and thought, "Didn't I leave enough room?" The Aston flashed multiple times, so I thought, just in case it was not a fair move, I'd just let them pass and try again later.

I realised they were relatively slow, so I went for another move down the inside, hoping that we would not make contact again. This time, I tried to stay as far right as possible and managed to get the overtake done. But after looking at the replay, I feel like I should not have given the place back because they looked like they turned into me. But I was also pretty aggressive with the move, and I could have turned in a little earlier, so I am not certain about it; thus, this requires an external party to review, such as the race stewards.

So what do you think? Am I the helmet for lunging? Should I have kept the position initially?

Example of another Overtake Highlight

This is where you upload a clip of a manoeuvre you're proud of!

Had great pace and was able to overtake several people from 2nd last place [21st]; these are a few short clips of the moves I was proud of during the race! I finished P7 just behind P6 in the end, but since they had a penalty, I got promoted to P6!

Basic Rule of Thumb:

As long as the clip shows an overtake, it technically qualifies; it doesn't matter how difficult it is, as it is relative to OP's skill level. Be respectful even though it might seem easy for you to pull off.

Example of Overtake Highlight

Here is an example of an Overtake Highlight,

Some light tapping/trading paint is fine (as long as it doesn't result in a crash); it's a little funny to see other fellow racers trip up sometimes, as it happens to us all. So please stay humble; outright belittling another driver because they made a mistake will not be tolerated.

Basic Rule of Thumb:

If OP is not malicious and had no intent to crash the other player to overtake, it's good.

Community Vibe
We're all about being friendly, constructive, and inclusive. Let's build a space where everyone feels comfortable sharing and connecting. The length of the Highlight clips can vary depending on how long the battle lasts, but do try to keep it within 2~5 mins at most [Not a strict rule].

How to Get Started

  1. Introduce yourself in the comments below.
  2. Post something today! A highlight clip! An overtake sent from another postcode and still made it? Share it here for others to see!
  3. If you know someone who would love this community, invite them to join.
  4. If you've the whole recording of a race where it consists of clean racing (specific to OP; meaning if OP got into an incident, where OP is the least at fault, it passes! vice versa), feel free to send a YouTube link here for others to watch and learn how good online sim racing can be!
  5. Interested in helping out? We're always looking for new moderators, so feel free to reach out to me to apply.

Thanks for being part of the very first wave. Together, let's make r/SimracingSpotlight the place where simracers can sit back and relax from all the incidents/chaos in a public race lobby to enjoy some good, wholesome and respectful racing. ^(10)

The Porsche called me a dickhead, should I report it an intentional shove?

Race Context:

I am the Ferrari; the black Porsche caught up to the back of the 2 podium sitters (at the start of the video, P2, Aston and P3, Ferrari were fighting), and I was behind the Porsche. They braked early; I saw a gap and went for it. I tried to stay as tight as I could to the right as possible for a switchback or a wider line (just in case the podium sitters spun each other out). They turned in a lot more than I anticipated (guess they were also thinking the same thing), and we both made contact. I caught my slide and kept on going because I think the contact was just an incident, but the move I made was fair. But it seems that they were not happy with it, flashing me multiple times as we approached T1.

Then, on the same lap, the podium sitters had a bad exit through Eau Rouge and up Raidillon, so I caught up, then passed them, only to overestimate the brakes, and I went wide. I know the move was not fair, so I gave the position back safely by the next corner. As I let the 2 podium runners by, I tried to go to the middle (keeping more right to defend), and the Porsche then came in and hit me. I had to get on the brakes harder than I would usually do, locking my tyres. It looks like an intentional attempt to punt me off wide into the tight hairpin.

Because of the diffuser damage, I lost the rears and spun (lucky I had no contact with anything, dropped a handful of positions, able to crawl back to P5 just behind them). After the race ended, I said GGs, and the damage to my diffuser was not nice; even other players were not happy with them in the chat, and then out of the others who went off on them, they called me a "dickhead". Which I can only assume was because of the contact at the start of the video.

So what's the verdict? Was the punt intentional? Should I make a report? Am I the dickhead?

Updated stance: Following advice from multiple racing stewards, the 1st contact was my fault; it is not a racing incident [This is to ensure other fellow stewards are up to date with my current take on the initial contact at the bus stop].

Should I report this, or is this just an unlucky incident?

Race Context:

I am the Blue Ferrari. The Pink Lambo dove down the inside of the Yellow Mustang and completely misjudged their braking point, but other than keeping the car straight, it seems like they were locked on to me like a heat-seeking missile. Giving the benefit of the doubt, they might have thought that they would have hit me while keeping the car straight on (which could very well have happened at the speed they were going).

Sidenote: They had a DT penalty yet to be served (you would think they'd be a little bit more cautious).

Chat Context:

To be honest, I was seeing red at this point because I have been on a streak of DNFs & race-affecting contacts (even though I kept it as clean as I could, I am a Platinum 3 for almost 2 years). I took to the chat and asked the others to report them, as they didn't seem to respond/react to the contact in the chat, but then they said that they "misjudged the braking point, it happens, leave me be, it's just a game man, relax". Which is understandable (still pissed tho, but understandable); it still looked like they intentionally went into the side of me and tried to underplay the situation.

So what shall it be, racing stewards? I am all for forgiving others for a mistake, but it really does grind my gears when players do not take any kind of accountability even though they have affected the other players' races.
