My third stone, tourmaline bar

Very happy with the result of this tourmaline cut. My teacher suggested this design which he didn't have a diagram for, so I took his notes and had a look at some of the stones he completed and made a diagram in GemCad which was a fun experience.

Have worn contacts for a decade, suddenly problems

I have been wearing Biofinity Torics since 2017. Ever since starting with contact lenses I have had no problems and have been practicing daily extended wear (from wake to sleep) with only rare exceptions. I've never had any problems with wear, and though with yearly check ups the spherical component has been sliding (from about -1 to -3, I'm now in my late 30s) everything has been going fine.

I went for a check up a couple weeks ago and will admit I was dealing with some redness which I suspect was from allergies. My optometrist was shocked, claimed I should cease contact wear immediately and provided medicated eye drops. I wore glasses for a week (uncomfortably - I haven't changed my glasses for a LONG time because I just wear my contacts and my prescription has changed) and used the drops. Going back in, she claimed there was little improvement, still much redness and scleral vascularisation (the redness I attributed to allergies was gone) and recommended to wait until she got a fresh pair in and a new checkup. Meanwhile I'm also waiting on new glasses to be delivered so hopefully I will be set.

Has anyone ever heard stories like this? How is it possible that my eyes are suddenly reacting badly after having worn contacts for such a long time without problems, and now it's suddenly so bad I can't wear them anymore? My optometrist claims sudden rejection without prior issues is something that can happen but that seems unlikely to me.

The only thing I can think of is that I switched to a new lens fluid a while ago. I haven't been experiencing any discomfort but it might be causing problems. I note however that the active ingredient in that fluid (sodium hyoluranate) is the exact same ingredient that's in the eye drops I've been described. Is it possible I'm having an adverse reaction to this ingredient, and that this is also why there hasn't been any improvement after ceasing wear?

Instant boot suddenly stopped working

I have my laptop set up to instant boot on connecting the AC adapter. This is because I only use external monitors for my home setup and I don't want to mess around with opening the flap and pushing the physical button.

I've been actively using this function for about two months now, but the other day I spent some time using my laptop remotely and when returning home this function suddenly stopped working.

I have checked the function in BIOS settings, it's still set to the original setting. I tried setting the function to Off, rebooting, and returning it to the AC adapter setting, but this hasn't fixed anything. The AC adapter is working properly as far as I can tell, the charging indicator LED goes on and the battery charges normally.

The only thing I remember changing is using Fn+Q to change fan speed settings as I was trying to keep things quiet, but I don't know how they could be related. I changed the setting back to the original.

Does anyone know what might be causing this?
