Campervan leisure battery help

Hi all,

I have a campervan with an AGM leisure battery and electrical system I installed myself (system itself was designed by a company). Everything has been working fine apart from my charging system from the starter battery. Old non-smart alternator therefore I installed a VSR (voltage sensitive relay) for battery to battery charging. So I have a thick cable directly connecting my starter battery positive to leisure battery positive via the VSR and 2 high ampage fuses. This initially worked great, when I turned the engine on I could see the voltage of my leisure system jump up to 14.2V. 6 months down the line its stopped working and I've no idea why, I've tried the following:

- tested ground connection for starter battery with engine off and on, looks good.

- tested ground connection for leisure battery, looks good.

- tested the end of the cable (including the 2 fuses but not the VSR) run going to leisure battery against ground, reading 14.2V.

- above test implies to me the fuses are good. Also swapped in different fuses, no difference.

- tried bypassing the VSR and connecting the +ve cable from starter directly to +ve terminal of leisure battery but no change, still read 12.5v across leisure battery terminals.

I'm now completely out of ideas. Possibly an issue with the battery? Or a ground connection? Please help!

Second home stamp duty advice UK

Hi all,

I'm after a bit of advice and ChatGPT hasn't been able to help. The below numbers are fictional for privacy reasons.

This is my scenario: I purchased my first house for £125k and have spent a lot of time renovating it, its now worth approx £200k. I have since moved to a different city and am currently renting out the property. I now want to buy my next house for around £275k but would also like to keep the first house due to the rental income: £8k a year before tax and expenses.

Currently this would mean I'd have to pay an additional £13.7k in stamp duty due to the 5% second home surcharge. Is there any way around reducing this amount while keeping both properties? Would transferring the first property to a limited company be a viable solution? Or transferring the title to a family member?

It just seems unfair to pay this amount when if I reversed the order and bought the more expensive property first I would only be paying £6k in stamp duty for the cheaper property.

Many thanks for your advice.

What percentage (if any) should I keep in cash?

Hi all,

I have emergency savings so this question only applies to my longer term investments. I'm a bit worried about a possible market crash especially mega valued tech stocks. From what I've read its a good idea to have a decent percentage of savings outside of the market if you're feeling apprehensive. This is partially to cushion any losses but more importantly to have cash available to invest when prices are down. The counter argument to this is to just stay invested as there's just as much chance of missing out on market gains.

So what is the general consensus? Or is it just a personal decision? My gut feeling is to sell a bit now as prices are high and have about 20% in cash, what do yiu think?

Cheers

Hi all,

I've tried experimenting with enteric coated peppermint oil capsules for the first time. Took 1 capsule 30mins before a normal meal (I wouldn't expect to be triggered by this meal). 2 hours after the meal I now have peppermint smelling diarrhea.. My bowels often do this, when I eat something new or triggering (greasy food especially) my bowels go into evacuate mode.

Anyone any advice? Any experience something similar but improved symptoms with continued use of the capsules?

Many thanks

Hi all,

I would like to achieve the following and wondering if there is a simple and secure solution to allow it:

- Flask web app hosted on AWS

- Static website with domain name foo.com

- I want to authenticate all userless traffic from foo.com in my flask app

Many thanks!

Necesito dejar mi autocaravana en Arequipa por 3 semanas. ¿Alguien puede recomendar un lugar seguro donde pueda estacionarlo, por favor?

Gracias!
