>Episode 7
Int. Butcher Shop
I thought I’d take a different approach with this one. I know most people now know what happens this season, but in a minimal attempt to avoid further spoilers—especially for these scenes!—for those in places where the show hasn’t aired yet, I thought I’d talk about the set design without showing it through stills.
As many of you know, episodic projects can move at breakneck speed, often without having all the information. In this case, the request came in as: “We need a butcher shop in Episode 7.”
No additional details about what was actually going to happen in the space... at first... (the beads of sweat begin to form!)
While I was probably on a scouting van or on set opening with the crew, I did some quick research on my iPad, sketched a little idea in my notebook, and sent it off to my Art Director, Michel Brady. Set Designer Gord Peterson jumped into high gear and started modeling the set from my references.
The beauty of a 3D model is being able to sit down with your director and cinematographer and figure out how the camera works within the space, where actors enter and exit, how they move through the room, and where the light comes from.
Fortunately, director Alan Taylor and cinematographer David Tattersall had a very clear plan for these scenes.
From there, I chose materials that would make the space feel as real as possible: stainless steel, ceramic tile walls, tiled floors, and plastic ceiling tiles. Everything you’d expect to be “easily cleaned” in an actual butcher shop.
The result was a cold, sterile atmosphere—perfect for the horrifying action taking place inside. Glass block windows gave us the perfect diffusion for the daylight outside and the amazing set decoration completed the terrifying look.
The butcher table created its own set of challenges. We needed something monolithic and aged to contrast with its sterile surroundings. It also had to hide our actor, allow him to move freely around the table, and then seamlessly disappear once the “hero props” were placed on top.
The table was drawn by Lori Fernandez and aged beautifully by our scenic team.

>The score… u/danielmwenda wow…highlight for me was the witch burning sequence…absolutely stunning work. 🐐
>Editing on this show was other level, but this episode was beyond. One watch through was not enough…just so viscerally rich, and a touching ode to the first two seasons masterfully intertwined. 🫣🫠
>Absolutely lucid writing by u/hannahmoscovitch and Rolin Jones … The scene with Paul…🤯🥺
>Set Dec, Costumes, Prod Design all blew my mind. Check out the recent posts from u/andres_cubillan_soto re Paris street, and u/its_lexwood on costume design.

>InstagramAs the new season comes to a close, it’s time to say that I had the incredible privilege and honor of getting to visit the set of The Vampire Lestat last year.
To anyone that knows me, you know this show has been my hyperfixation since before the first episode even came out. So to get to see this talented cast and crew work was one of the best and most life-affirming weeks of my life.
I never thought this non-binary pal from Florida would ever step foot on a major studio set, let alone watch their favorite show film some of its newest season, let alone be an extra, let alone make lifelong friendships with said creative cast and crew, but here I am.
u/jacobanderson, it was so fortuitous of me to wear a Louis shirt when I asked to take a photo with you. You are an immaculate, genius of an artist. u/josephpotter_, your humor, intellect and wisdom about Nicolas de Lenfent and about life will always stay with me. Your future is so bright. u/themauragrace, your smile and your talent brightens the set. Justice for Antoinette! u/assadzc, your antics and asides between takes made my siblings and I laugh. You are a gem. Thank you. u/delaineyhayles, I was so glad I was able to compliment you after watching and tearing up at your incredible takes. You are iconic. u/honushonus, you’re hilarious and a true star in every shot and frame you’re in. I’m so glad to have met you and to finally get a Salamander pin. Sam, it is an honor to know you, to have worked with you twice now, and to be able to talk to you between and after takes. Your work ethic and kindness is truly special. u/mariajgvt, I will never forget how gracious you were with your time and energy. u/hannahmoscovitch, it was a privilege to see you work. You taught me so much in such a short time, but these lessons will stay with me throughout my screenwriting career. u/adamobyrnestuff, thank you, thank you, thank you. You’ve truly changed my life in so many ways. Rolin, seeing how much you cared about the show made me realize that your passion for it is the reason the fans love it so much. Congratulations.
Can’t wait to see what the future holds 🩸🦇🧛🏼

So many people were such a huge part of this. Thank you to everyone not named for making it such an unforgettable ride!!
Good evening Coven!! Lovely to finally see you on the other side!!
Anyone else living up to the last episode title? .... Wrong!! You are all amazing and were pretty fuck¡ng great if you ask me!
So now that the quote is out of my system, this is the announcement of the winner of this post earlier last week. We asked you all what did you think would happen in the season finale of TVL ad the results are in. All answers are the original one submitted to the post, so no editing will make a difference here in case you are sneaky.
We apologize for closing it earlier than expected, but sadly the High seas are mighty dangerous in the Immortal Universe, damned pirates and damned companies not properly investing in better shipping technology (I wanted to be very clever here but my english is limited and I don´t want to end up in another wikipedia dive just for a pirate vs East India AMC Trading company joke).
Anyways, gather around to meet our winner of the day, who´ll receive an Art comission from u/GalateaDNegro who was kind enough to lend us her skills for this contest.
This is the counting of right answers per users, some of them were half way right and we added half a point for nearly getting it, better luck next season folks!!
(Please contact us thorugh Modmail to be able to reclaim your prize!!)
To everyone who participated, a big thank you!!! And to everyone who´s still interested in this sorts of contests we´ll see what we can cook in the following months of horrible, horrible series withdrawal.
If we were big we´d have some sort of super cool guitar, but we are not quite there yet 😂. Maybe one day

As promised, some non-stills photos of the Episode 7 “Paris Street Mindscape” set.
This one really made me nervous. What if people didn’t get it? What if this only made sense to me? Would anyone notice the nuance? I can’t tell you how grateful I am for the trust our producers put in me on this one.
Over a dozen TVL posters in different styles were created by our graphics team, then ripped apart and layered over one another. We also recreated period revolutionary propaganda posters, along with posters for the plays Lestat performed in during his time at the Renaud Theater and Théâtre de Vampire.
Chlamydial dressing-room ladies littered the walls in judgment, while cabbages pranced about in mockery and hid behind corners.
I originally wanted to have his overturned Camaro still on fire, but alas, it was in too bad a shape to move, and production was a little against having a car on fire in the middle of the set. (Damn safety regulations!) But could you imagine Nicky feverishly playing the violin, lit by a raging fire??!
It was such an experience to see all these people in their amazing costumes, shouting and screaming in this madhouse of a set, with Sam giving such a riveting performance, strutting up and down the Lioncourt family dining table.
Special kudos to our amazing graphics and set dec teams, and particularly our scenic painters, this time led by our Assistant Head Painter, Gleb Noujin.

Instagram Everyone's on a photo dump. Why is this the only thing I have worth sharing?
>Instagram As our finale episode airs, what a great time to shout from the rooftops about the amazing humans who joined me in the Costumes team to build The Vampire Lestat season with unfaltering commitment and immense talent !
Chatting to yous all over the last few weeks has got me all nostalgic - it’s well over a year since I arrived in Toronto, to open arms, tomato flavour crisps and a whole heap of enthusiasm ! As the episodes grew, so did our core team of the faithful vampire costume gang - we lost some crew and we gained some crew - and with every member, we welcomed a true artist in to our little sleepless family. I’m forever grateful for the attention to detail, the talent, and most of all, the sense of humour of everyone in our happy little team… and everyone who supported bringing the costumes together, and to the camera ! The hours were brutal, the blood was flowing, the sewing machines ever humming - and now, our poured-over pieces, carefully stitched, artfully aged, and beautifully prepped looks are out in the world … WELL DONE, team !
Forever grateful, forever indebted … very humbled little northerner here !! So please - forgive me for gushing, but these are the humans behind the vamps … Here is our fam !🩸🖤
