How to get dismissed from Jury Duty?

Hi everyone I’m currently a college student and was summoned to Pittsfield. I go to school in North Adams and don’t have a car so my plan for jury duty was going via the bus system. It will take me around 2 hours one way. As you can imagine I really don’t have the time to be making that trek regularly if I get assigned a long case. Unfortunately being a college student doesn’t excuse me from jury duty.

Is there anything that I should say to hopefully get me excused from jury duty? I was thinking about saying something like I don’t trust cops (which I do have my reservations about).

Why is it so difficult to get shadowing experience

I go to a small LAC out of state in a rural area so it’s just not realistic for me to drive far to shadow at the hospitals somewhat near my college during the school year.

I’m trying to get shadowing while I’m home for the summer and every single place within an hour of me was full months ago or only accepting students who go to the state school they’re partners with. I’ve called like 20 hospitals by me. I’ve only started calling now cause I was abroad and was just able to get my TB test once I got home.

How was getting a summer EMT job easier than trying to shadow?!? Hate how there’s no actual summer programs to get premed extracurriculars while there’s so many more structured pre-PhD programs like REUs.

And don’t even get me started on trying to volunteer near my area. The hospitals near me don’t have space until February.

When to start applying for 1-year term jobs after undergrad?

Hey everyone, I know this question has been asked before but I wanted to get everyone’s thoughts on it now since funding has changed so much. So I’m going into my senior year and I’m pre-med with prior research experience. I worked as a research assistant at my school, did one REU, and will also be doing a year-long thesis. I want to work in the field my prior experience has been in. Graduate in spring 2027 so looking to start work summer 2027

For my gap year I want to work as a research assistant/tech in a city like Boston. I’m looking at term appointments at Harvard right now since I’m only looking for one year and a lot of those jobs are one year with possibility for extension based on funding. When should I start applying for those jobs? Usually I’d start applying winter ish but the how to apply website from Harvard business school said RAs are usually recruited in the fall or winter to start in the following summer. So I was wondering if for bio research the recruiting will be similar and I should start pretty early. TIA!

Stone in Roman fountain (Porto di Ripetta)

So I know the original fountain was erected in 1704 using travertine from the colosseum. However, it was dismantled in 1900s and then reassembled in 1930. I know some parts are not original like the dolphins, basin, and shell made in 1930, however I haven’t been able to find a source saying if they’re travertine or not. I suspect they’re cast cement with a travertine-like coating. It’s very hard to do research on this without knowing Italian.

In the first image I circled the top layer where it’s flaking off, travertine wouldn’t do that. And then in the second image, I circled what appears to be a seam for the cast cement and the area where the shell has been eroded, it looks very much like cement (I can’t get any closer to it due to the basin). Also do the outer and inner basins (pictures 3 and 4 respectively) both appear to be travertine?

Can somebody confirm that the new parts are made using cement and not travertine and how else I can tell? It’s great appreciated, this has been driving me crazy.
