I’m honestly shaken by what’s being reported from IIT Ropar. A professor, Lakhan Bainsla, has been accused of sexually and physically assaulting his own PhD student. From what’s come out so far, she was allegedly subjected to repeated coercion and abuse at his residence, especially when his family wasn’t around.

What’s even more disturbing is that when she resisted, it reportedly turned violent. She’s now in the hospital, dealing not just with physical injuries but deep psychological trauma.

As students, this hits hard. We’re told that institutes like IITs are among the safest and most prestigious places to study, but incidents like this make you question everything. Is anyone really held accountable? Are students actually protected?

A lot of people are saying this isn’t an isolated case, and honestly, it doesn’t feel like one. We’ve heard before about complaints being quietly suppressed or victims being pressured to stay silent just to protect the institute’s reputation.

It’s just frustrating and scary at the same time. If something like this can happen in a place like IIT, where are students-especially women-supposed to feel safe? There needs to be real accountability. Otherwise, nothing is going to change.
