Anyone else ditch forex for futures? Let's talk strategies that actually work here
I traded forex for like 3 years straight, mostly EU, AU and GU. Eventually got tired of the broker manipulation fakeouts and bs with multitasking between 3 pairs every day. Switched to futures about 8 months ago (mostly NQ and YM) and man it's a different beast. I'm someone who naturally doesn't like to swing, so just the way price moves, it feels cleaner. Real volume, no chop fest nonsense, and you can actually see order flow like on level 2 dom if you dig into it. But it's also humbling as hell those fat candles and the way it rips on news hits different when you're trading contracts. Wondering if any of you made the jump too. What strategies have you found that just don't translate from forex? For me, volume profile + level 2 is way more useful in futures than in forex.
What helped me transition was getting comfortable with the micro contracts (MNQ and MYM) so I didn't blow up learning something different. How are you guys handling the overnight sessions and gaps (still getting wrecked occasionally by those when I'm stubborn and hold into next session sometimes). Also the new fancy footprint chart stuff getting popular on youtube now-a-days, anyone actually profitable with it or is it mostly hype?
Not looking for any holy grails cuz there's none, just real talk from people who’ve been through the transition. What setups are you running now that you wish you knew earlier? Risk management differences? Favorite instruments etc. Would be cool to build a little thread for ex-Forex guys now in futures.
Drop your experiences below. Also took inspiration and made the r/ ForexStrategies sub but for futures. If interested I'll send you the invite. Thanks for reading if you made it this far
TL;DR: Ex-forex trader now in futures, looking to swap notes on what actually works according to you in this market. Cheers
