So….. what is the university going to do when hundreds if not thousands of their student have heat-stroke related incidents?

I understand not having AC in the dorms, but if you’re going to do that, why tf can’t we have personal AC in our rooms…? Like as much as I love my little mini fan and dehumidifier, it’s not doing shit.

Is my biochemistry just using jargon or am I seriously underprepared as a transfer student?

I’m a transfer biochemistry major at UCSD. I know the prior knowledge needed for the class because the criteria to even apply to UCSD is to complete all the pre-requisite classes and pass them, but I feel like I’m lapped in my education and information. Like today in my biochemistry class, we were going over hydrogen bonds, orbitals, functional groups, entropy and enthalpy, etc. I know these concepts because I went over it at my community college. But my professor kept on going into so much depth and technicality and I was so lost. Microstates, first hydrogen sphere, clusters, hydrophobic ore, dielectric constant, and Tranford’s Transfer. Am I genuinely supposed to know all these terms before taking a biochemistry class or is my professor just throwing around jargon or concepts that will be explored more in biochemistry as a whole? If it’s the former, I might consider dropping and doing a whole overhaul of content review.

How to be a more well rounded medical school applicant?

Hi everyone. This is a super niche topic, but I was wondering if anybody was in my shoes. I’ve always known I wanted to he a forensic pathologist when I switched career paths and while I thought about other specialties when young, I never really was interested in medicine. Having gone through schooling and learning about scientific lab skills, biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, and other STEM fields, I am definitely satisfied with the content despite the rigor and time. However, being so focused on forensic pathology has made me realize that I truly have no great answer for why medical school and the medical field in the first place. I have the generic I want to help people and could tie it with medical research and pharmacology as I have psoriasis and mental health issues, but these seem like overused talking points. Did anybody ever only dream of a singular specialty and stumbled across forensic pathology? Or did you always want to do forensic pathology and achieved your goals? Thank you!

I want everyone fired

The new video of the higher ups trying to deflect and dodge around the questions surrounding TSS instead of saying “We screwed up” was an absolute slap in the face to everybody. We’re not dumb. You have access to the UC system and have resources from world class IT experts and overseeing managers in the state if not the country. Not to mention the countless partnerships from corporations. And you’re telling me you can’t roll out a useable product while even claiming that you DID BETA TESTING? No, I want everyone fired starting from the chancellor all the way down. This is an embarrassment.

Rant:

I don’t know what I’m doing with my life. I am non-traditional as I was originally in culinary school for a semester before dropping out. I finished my last semester at my community college earlier this month and got accepted into UC Davis under the Applied Chemistry, Forensics track. I applied as a Biochemistry major, but I guess they decided that since I talked about wanting to become a forensic pathologist that I was a better fit for the major. I have access to shadowing and clinical hours through a family member up in Sacramento, and I might have a research position once I transfer or at least got noticed by a PI I’m interested in working for. I have all these opportunities in front of me and it looks like it won’t even matter because I have such a shitty GPA and I’m a lazy fuck despite my mental health diagnoses. I can explain my bad grades to some extent, but constantly saying that I was burnt out or overworked or having a bad experience with a professor means jack. I couldn’t handle it and it showed. I’m just wondering if there is even a point in pursuing it or just get the degree and pivot to a less demanding forensics field job.
