Launch day. This week's puzzle: 5 cards in hand, 7 melds, no joker. Can you take the table apart?

Hi everybody,

Ramio is out today, fully and freely available on Android and iPhone. I really want to thank everyone here who tried it over the past weeks and sent feedback. That was really helpful. Feedback is still very welcome.

This week's puzzle: 5 cards in your hand (2, 3, 5, 6 and 9 of hearts), 7 melds on the table, no joker. Play all 5 by rearranging the table: runs of the same suit (3+ cards, ace low or high), sets of 3 or 4 different suits. Reference time: 70 seconds. Solution tomorrow under spoiler tags.

As before, you can play it in the browser, no account needed:

https://quintaingames.com/ramio/defi/?defi=17s22qh&couleurs=4&kit=arctique&src=reddit-rummikub-defi

The app: play solo against the bots, online with friends or random people, or one puzzle a day. And for the launch, accounts created by October 15 keep the premium version for life, with their founder number.

Ramio update: launch on Oct 8, still looking for players, and a chapter 6 puzzle

Hi everyone,

I've posted here a few times in the past weeks about our game, Ramio, a manipulation rummy played with cards (two decks and two jokers, same system as Rummikub). The clip above is from a real game: the 8 of diamonds from my hand, plus the 8 of spades and the joker taken back from a run on the table.

Two updates:

- The game will officially launch soon (October 8 if all goes well), and we're still looking for testers and players. We have a bit over a hundred, but that's not enough to keep multiplayer alive.

- It keeps growing: new themes, and harder puzzles (a 6th chapter was added recently).

If you want to join: the first 1,000 accounts created before October 8 get premium for life (a theme of your choice, an exclusive frame, and no ads once ads exist, etc.). You need to create an account in the app; guest play doesn't count.

Free on Android and iPhone: https://quintaingames.com/ramio/en?src=reddit-rummikub

And here's this week's puzzle, from chapter 6: two jokers on the table, 12 cards in your hand, fit them all. It plays in the browser, nothing to install: try it here (https://quintaingames.com/ramio/defi/?defi=k9a7wg&couleurs=4&src=reddit-rummikub-defi)

Enjoy your games, of Ramio or Rummikub!

I hope to see you soon on the daily puzzle leaderboard.

Manipulation rummy puzzle of the week: 2 jokers on the table, fit all 13 cards from your hand (browser, no sign-up)

Manipulation rummy plays by the same rules as Rummikub, but with cards: 11, 12 and 13 are the Jack, Queen and King, and the Ace is the 1 (it can also sit above the King, never both at once).

Poll: which card display would you rather play with?

Same table, same cards, eight ways to show them: rows or columns, two or four colours, simple or classic faces. Pick the one you would rather play with. One vote per person. Thanks! You can vote here : https://strawpoll.com/XOgOVxkeQn3

This will help me determine which card display will be default in my game.

Poll: which card display would you rather play with?

I could not find a poll option on this sub, so here the poll via StrawPoll.

My question is simple: which of these card presentations would you prefer to play with? Same deal shown eight ways (rows or columns, two or four colours, simple or classic faces).

This matters to me, it will decide the default mode of my game. Thank you in advance!

Manipulation rummy: empty a 5-card hand in one move by rearranging the table (two jokers already down)

Two standard decks, plus jokers. The nine groups on the table are valid melds:

  • a run is three or more consecutive cards of one suit (ace low or high, no wrapping),
  • a set is three or four cards of one rank in different suits.

You hold the five cards at the bottom.

Get rid of all five in a single move. You may split, move and recombine anything on the table, as long as every group is a valid meld when you are done. The two jokers stand for any card and can be moved around, but they must stay on the table.

Anyone else play Manipulation Rummy with cards (Räuber-Rommé / Machiavelli)? We built a digital table for it.

Hi everyone,

In our family, we have played this game for years with two decks of cards, and until this summer we didn't even know its real name. Looking it up, we found it is called Manipulation Rummy in English, Räuber-Rommé in Germany, Machiavelli in Italy, Mexe-Mexe in Brazil, and Rami Voleur (our version) in France.

Same game everywhere, with small local differences. Since no app played it exactly the way we do, we decided to build one. It is currently in open beta, 100% free, and has no ads.

The Rules We Play (The Short Version) If you know Rummy, you know the basics (melds are runs and sets). But here is the twist that makes it really interesting:

  • No discards, ever. Your hand only shrinks by melding.
  • The Table is Shared. Once you've played your initial opening meld, you can rearrange the entire table.
  • Total Freedom. You can split, move, and recombine anyone's melds to fit your cards in, as long as every meld on the table is valid (at least 3 cards) at the end of your turn.

(See the GIF above for what a standard turn looks like). With 60+ cards on the board, every turn becomes a complex puzzle. If the stock runs out before someone goes out, everybody counts the cards left in their hand—so hoarding cards to build a big final move is a real risk.

The App We Built We wanted the server to referee every rule seamlessly while you drag and drop cards. Features include:

  • Smart Bots: 4 bot levels that do not cheat. The strongest one runs a real solver heuristic, while the others only see what a human player would see.
  • Puzzles: 350 situations where you must empty your hand using the table, plus a Daily Puzzle.
  • Multiplayer: Private rooms with rule variants, and public online games.

You can try the Android open beta or get it on iPhone via TestFlight here: 🔗https://tristache.github.io/ramio-site/en?src=reddit-cardgames

You will be among the very first people outside our family and friends to play it, so please be indulgent with the empty public matchmaking rooms at the start!

My question for you all: What is this game called where you live, and which rules differ? We are especially curious about the "30-point opening" some people use, and whether your local rules allow jokers to be taken back into the hand.

Rummikub players: we made a card version of manipulation rummy and we're curious what you'd think

Small confession first: we learned that Rummikub existed while searching what our family game was called elsewhere. We grew up playing it with cards, so for us Rummikub was « the tile version » of our game, not the other way round.

The card version, for those who don't know it: two 52-card decks plus jokers, 13 cards each, one shared table where anything already played can be rearranged, and no discard pile (you draw every turn, you never throw away). To open you need a clean run of three in the same suit from your hand — no 30 points to count. And if the draw pile runs out before anyone goes out, the round just stops and everybody counts what's left in their hand. So hoarding is a very risky lifestyle.

We wanted to keep playing together remotely, found nothing on the stores, so we spent the last months building it ourselves. Lurking here actually influenced some of our decisions:

  • private rooms are humans only (you pick the score limit, turn timer and starting hand size)
  • bots exist but they are labelled as bots, they have levels, and they don't cheat — they see only what a human in their seat would see
  • no ads during play
  • 350 puzzles: a table and a small hand, empty the hand in one turn by rearranging everything. Plus one daily puzzle, same deal for everyone, with a leaderboard. If you like the « is this allowed? » posts here, this is that, all day long

It went in open beta on Android and iPhone since a few days. You would be the first people outside our family and friends to try it, so be indulgent with the possible lack of players in the online rooms yet — the bots and the puzzles don't need anyone, and a private room only needs the people you bring. Not dropping a link here, if someone wants to try just ask in the comments.

Mostly we're curious about the variant itself: we call it « rami voleur » (thief rummy), and our search turned up Räuber-Rommé in Germany and Machiavelli in Italy as close cousins. Anyone here grew up with a card version? What rules did your family bend?

Rummy players — does your family play the variant where you can raid the melds already on the table? What do you call it?

In my family we play a rummy variant where the fun part is stealing: once you’ve opened, you can take cards from any meld already on the table and rearrange everything to build your own combinations — as long as every meld left behind is still valid. Turns the table into a shared puzzle, and ruins friendships nicely.
Researching it, I found it exists under wildly different names depending on the country: “rami voleur” (“thief rummy”) in France, “Räuber-Rommé” (“robber rummy”) in Germany, “Machiavelli” in Italy, “Mexe-Mexe” in Brazil. In English I’ve seen “Manipulation Rummy,” but I’ve never met anyone who actually calls it that.
So, two questions for those who play it: what does your family/region call it? And what are your house rules — how many jokers, what you need to open, how many cards dealt? Ours seem to differ from most written version I’ve found, and I suspect everyone’s do.
