Why use forecast debt/shares instead of latest actuals in DCF?
I'm working through a DCF model where FY2021 is the latest actual financial year and FY2022 is the first forecast year.
The instructor uses FY2022P shares outstanding, short-term debt, and long-term debt for the valuation/WACC capital structure, even though FY2022 debt represents the end-of-2022 balance.
He explains that from an equity research perspective, we should use the first forecast year (FY2022) rather than the previous year's actual data.
I understand the reasoning for using forecast shares, but does the same logic apply to the debt balances? Why would we use FY2022 ending debt rather than FY2021 ending debt (which is FY2022 beginning debt) when calculating WACC?
Also, should the tax rate and pre-tax cost of debt be based on FY2021 actuals, since FY2021 is the latest available historical data?

Can i use old BEDSV-101 & BCOS-183 assignments for Dec 2026 TEE?
I’m a B.Com (FYUP) January 2026 admission student. IGNOU hasn’t uploaded the new assignments for **BEDSV-101** and **BCOS-183** yet. The only PDFs available are valid until **30 June 2026**
**And July 2025 for BEDSV101**
I’m appearing in the **December 2026 TEE**. Can I submit those assignments, or do I need to wait for the new ones? Has anyone confirmed this with IGNOU?

AITA for refusing to start a lesson until my student paid me?
I have been teaching a private student off-platform for a year. Our rule was always that he pays for the whole month upfront during our first class. He was always loyal and paid on time.
But during our first class last week, I forgot to ask for the money. Mid-class, he noticed and said, "That’s good. It means you focus on the class more than money. I don't like to work with people who put money first." I felt totally cornered by that comment. It felt like a trap to make me feel guilty for asking for my hard-earned money. He didn't pay after that class.
Today was our second class of the month, and he still hadn't paid. I didn't want to teach for free, so 5 minutes before the class, I texted him and asked him to send the payment before we started.
He asked if there was a problem, but when I explained, he sent the money immediately. However, he then said, "I forgot. I just did it but can we have the session tomorrow instead?"
He paid me, but he cancelled today's class and shifted it to tomorrow. I can tell his mood got ruined because I broke his "noble tutor" fantasy and forced him to pay up. Now I feel a bit guilty for ruining the vibe of a one-year relationship.
AITA for standing my ground and demanding the payment before starting the class?
Balance sheet not balancing -beginner 3 statement model
I’m a complete beginner learning financial modeling and built my first simple 3-statement model using Nike’s 2025 annual report.
The historical statements balance perfectly, but my forecast Balance Sheet doesn’t:
2026F: (116)
2027F: (217)
2028F: (301)
2029F: (370)
2030F: (420)
I’ve already checked the PPE schedule, working capital schedule, retained earnings schedule, cash flow links, and cash balance, but I still can’t find the issue.
I’ve attached both the annual report statements and my model. Could someone please point out what’s wrong or where I should be looking?
Thanks!
Is my handwriting okay for assignment ?
Its my first year , so im a bit anxious about it. I have used chatgpt for these answers.
Hey everyone,
Currently doing BCOM(bachelor of commerce) and recently completed a “Complete Financial Analyst 2026” course on Udemy.
I’m interested in finance and want to build real skills, but I’m confused about the practical path forward.
- How do I actually practice financial analysis in a meaningful way?
- Is working with annual reports (with 3-statement data already organized) a good way to build skills?
- Or am I missing something important like data cleaning, adjustments, etc.?
Also, honest question:
Do I have to start with entry-level roles like data entry, bookkeeping, or accounting to break into finance?
Not very interested in those. The goal is to move directly into finance/analysis roles if possible.
Is that realistic, or does everyone go through that phase first?
Would appreciate clarity on:
- What skills actually matter to get a first finance role
- What kind of practice recruiters value
- Whether skipping “grunt work” is possible or just wishful thinking
Thanks.
Jan 2026 B.Com (FYUP) student at IGNOU here.
All 8 first-year courses (Sem 1 + Sem 2). Planning to appear in Dec 2026 TEE.
Questions:
- Can I select all 8 courses in the exam form and attempt them in one cycle?
- Has anyone actually done all 8 in a single TEE—how manageable is it?
- What happens if two papers clash on the same date/time? Do we have to skip one and give it next cycle?
Would appreciate insights from people who’ve gone through this.
