Begonia Terrarium set up!
Was feeling a bit cheeky 🤭 and stopped at my local Squires garden centre and bought a couple of Rex begonias… and some terrariums 😭✨ Absolute love them!
Now I know begonias aren’t really “full terrarium plants,” but I just couldn’t resist. I’m not even that into begonias normally — I’ve only got one in my collection (the maculata* 👀) — but once I saw these little beauties I literally couldn’t pass up the opportunity for my experiment 🌿💚
I’ve been really into terrariums lately but never actually had the chance to properly make one, so my impulses definitely got the best of me… and I splurged 😅💸 (side note: why are big empty glass containers SO expensive?? Who knew?!)
But honestly, I loved it. Getting my hands dirty and creating a little world of my own felt so satisfying 🪴✨ I even added some Smiskis in for decor so at night they glow and just sit there looking cute as anything 🥹🌙
My maintenance plan for now is basically:
• wiping off excess condensation 💧
• airing out the cork terrariums every now and then 🌬️
But I just love them already!!
I even popped in a few corms and my dormant anthurium (no clue what type tbh 😭). Two of the corms did go mouldy 😬 but honestly I’m not too bothered — I’ve moved on from my alocasia madness anyway, it was more of an experiment than anything.
And the BEST bit — my dormant anthurium/corm thingy has gone all green!! 💚 so I know she’s coming back to life, which is so exciting!!
I chose begonias mainly because I find just moss + fittonias a bit boring (sorry 😭 unpopular opinion I know). I just don’t find fittonias cute at all 🫣 BUT a fern… now THAT I could get behind 🌿✨ I just didn’t manage to find any at my garden centre this time.
