I’ve had this Pilea for about a year. This winter I unexpectedly ended up away from my NYC apartment for almost 3 months, and I honestly thought it would be dead when I got back. Surprisingly, it still had tiny growth points, so I’ve been trying to rehab it for the last ~2 months.
It’s still in the original nursery soil/pot because I was worried repotting would stress it more. It gets bright indirect light near an east-facing window, some morning sun, and I only water once the soil dries significantly. I also lightly fertilized for the first time last week.
The problem is that it keeps pushing out tiny new leaves/babies, then aborting them. This is basically the only leaf it has managed to keep. The center growth point is still green/alive, but growth has been super slow, and now this leaf seems droopier too.
At this point I can’t tell if it’s slowly recovering or just stuck in limbo. Would you:
- leave it alone?
- repot it?
- prune/chop it?
- anything else?
Attaching photos from the last two months for context. Would really appreciate any thoughts from people who’ve rehabbed a severely stressed Pilea before 🥲
This plant was almost dead for months and now it’s back! And has little babies 🥹
I just tried the Babybio plant food & it loves it! Wanted to share the happiness
I had her sitting with a group of plants on a counter, maybe too crowded? (The one on the floor I just got and she’s gorgeous!!)
hi all! this is my first pilea gifted to me by a friend. it was one of her pups, she had put it straight to soil in a little pot. it’s been in the soil pot for about a week and a half but it was drooping, kept falling over and eventually just fell completely out! when i looked properly i could see as in the picture there was only the one sad little root lol. so i thought maybe i would water propagate to fast grow some roots! ive put it in a little pot as per the last pic. but im both a first time pilea owner and pilea propagator so i wanted to know if there was anything im doing wrong, if there was a danger with it having been in soil for a little over a week, or if anyone had any more advice!
i know to change the water out every couple of days, and i’m pretty sure you’re only supposed to put the tip of the plant in to grow roots and not submerge the whole stem (please correct me if i’m wrong!) aside from that lol i’m pretty much a novice so i’d appreciate any help or guidance! thanks :)
(uhh part 4 actually!)
Just wanted to send an update! A few months back I had this sad little pilea but we toughed out the winter and now are flourishing! Big ol green happy leaves! Thanks for all the tips folks gave in the past.
Also because of your continued support: Do you think I should size up this pot? I know they like to be root-bound but I do see a good amount of roots if I poke around the soil.

Every time I water a wing sag then post back up with strength after 3 days it’s been a week now and I think lil brother spoiling the bunch
My pilea has been looking rough for a while, and I'm fairly sure than I'm doing EVERYTHING wrong. I'm a horrible plant owner. I water it whenever the soil feels dry, although (this is going to sound horrible) I often forget it's there, so it's probably severely under watered. It's roughly 4 feet from a northeast facing window, if that helps. Is there anything I can do to bring it back? (I only have access to a northeast window and a southeast window.)
This is my first Pilea and I’ve been doing my best to take good care of him but I just noticed this discoloration yesterday. Aside from fungus gnats that hitched a ride on a plant from big box store, I haven’t seen any pests. I’ve treated with BTI, hydrogen peroxide (diluted) and neem oil. Could watering with those treatments be the problem? What can I do to improve his health? Soil is an indoor potting mix with added perlite and orchid bark. I have it under a grow light due to low light in my house. Thanks in advance!
For the first time in 10 years, after repotting my Pilea, she is flowering. I cannot believe it🤩Until a month ago she hadn't even had any growth in a very long time and now she's blossoming. Literally 😊
Hi! I finally got my first pilea :D
I definitely need some advice on her though lol
I got my pilea around March and she’s been fine for a while until recently one of the leafs started drooping. I didn’t think it was THAT big of a deal as I watered her when needed, she got sunlight and was spun around everytime. But idk she started turning a little yellow and see through, with a little rip turning black. She’s always had that rip from when I first got her but I wasn’t sure if I needed to cut it.
But anyway yeah :( at least my other ones seem happy (I hope so) but I am worried something could happen to them soon if I don’t figure it out now.
One question 🧖♀️
On the last slide, is that a new leaf growing in? I really want pups to grow as I’m planning on potentially propagating them in water, but I’m sooo impatient 😣 if there’s some things I should know about propagating them, I’d really appreciate some advice on that too!
Update: I checked her this morning and she developed a brown spot! So crazy it only came after a my post lol. Sadly when I was inspecting the leaf just fell off so I guess I will see how the rest of the plant progresses 💔 thank you so much for the help!
Stumbled upon this beauty the other day
I cut off the head and let it callus for a few days and now it’s in rainwater. The leaves feel kinda soft and are drooping.
I recently broke up and repotted my pilea plant. It seems to have made it through the repotting, but one of the plants grew this wart looking thing on one leaf. What is it?
Considering propping these 2. Once the bottom leaves fall they'll be pretty bare on the bottoms. I'd appreciate anyone's input on if they're too big to prop. Thanks so much!
I chop a few weeks back
And now she s getting new leafs
