Should I repot or let them be?

I want mine to grow big and lush so should I leave the pups as is and let them grow or should I chop them and repot? Also should I repot the whole thing?

Pourquoi est elle comme ça ?

Ma pilea a plusieurs "collerettes" comme ça, elle semble en bonne santé pourtant... des explications?

Pilea experiment

I’ve had the pilea on the left for about 4.5 years. I had always chopped from the mother to prop to give away, but I decided to grow a second one to see what it would look like if I let it go wild. I think I like it better with all the pups. I’m letting my other one go now.

I know the pot is too big for the size but it’s what I had on hand when I was doing a bunch of other plants. Would it be worth downsizing at this point? It seems happy. It’s about 25 inches including the pot. It did tip over a while back so I’m using a bamboo pole now.

Burnt soft spots?

Hi all, I've had this Pilea for around a year and it's been doing amazing up until now. Constantly putting out new growth, lots of new pups every few weeks

Over the last week or so, a lot of the leaves have come out with these dark areas and I'm not sure if it's a light, watering, or pest issue. The affected areas are soft to the touch

The plant is in a fairly chunky mix with bark, perlite etc and has slow release fertiliser (soilninja). I water based on the leaves drooping

I'm in the UK and all my plants sit in the conservatory, with Pianta 30 bulbs above them (they're only on for a few hours a day at the moment as it is sunny in the UK so do not want to overload them

The windows in the conservatory are open and it gets a cross wind, so the temperature doesn't get too high

I treat all the plants with systemic every few months

Any advice or ideas would be gladly welcome, thanks!

WWYD? My Pilea isn't dead but could be better...

So, I'm amazed this plant is still alive, but I haven't yet found a spot where it is truly thriving. I would like it to be less leggy and have more leaves like I am seeing here.

  1. I am thinking to cut the main stem and propegate that.

  2. Repot it as the soil seems to have compacted quite alot.

  3. Put it under some newly obtained grow lights and not over/under water it.

Do you think this would work?

Or what would you do if this was your baby?

My baby is in recovery!! 🙏

Following on from my earlier post...

So with a brave face and a dram of Speyside malt, I took the plunge!

Here's hoping I did okay by her and she and her babies flourish! ♥️

This is a step by step of what I did for reference.

I cut the main stem near(ish) to the bottom hoping it will grow some new stems.

Trimmed off the leaves from the stem with a knife.

I am propegating these all in rain water and will leave them on the east facing kitchen windowsill which these days gets a fair few hours of sunlight.

The mommy was what I would call quite rootbound, so I broke them up a bit from what soil was left and then put her in a slightly larger terracotta pot with some fresh succulent mix.

She is back in a different window where she seemed happy(ish) before, also east facing.

Gave the soil a good soak through with rainwater and let the excess drain through, won't water now for quite a while.

Sprouting curling leaves?

Do any of you wise folks have any insight into why my pp plant is sprouting curled leaves? It’s a new development. After I noticed it, I moved her from a W/SW-facing window to an E-facing window because it seemed like the leaves were flinching away from the light/window. It hasn’t gotten better a couple weeks after moving her though. Have had her for 4+ years, and this is the first time her leaves have curled like this.

Trailing Pilea

Has anyone else just let their Pilea run free? I call it a trailing Pilea now. Not sure what to do next. I suppose let it keep going 😂 🪴

Pilea Help!

I’ve had these for 3 years (one is momma the others a few of many babies💕) and for a long time now they’ve been losing lower leaves either to yellowing and drooping (no squishiness or crunchiness though) or sometimes the stem part will go brown at the leaf base and spread to the leaf. I also notice this strange splotchy discoloration (yellow or honestly maybe white even) on some leaves, always the older ones and always around the edges of the leaf. Here is the story of what I’ve tried in the last 1-1.5 years:

  1. they were on a table getting only indirect medium to bright light from a south window. I suspected maybe they needed more light, so I moved them to my greenhouse cabinet and a spot in a west window (I have more than the two in these pictures so I’ve tried a few spots). No change. One other was moved to a spot getting indirect light from a west window as well.

  2. I thought for a while it was root rot so I repotted in a more well draining homemade mix (definitely has fox farms soil, orchid bark, and perlite but unsure of ratios or additional mix ins like charcoal or worm castings potentially- it’s been a while). I don’t remember having to remove a bunch of rotten roots really, but this was last spring. No change.

  3. I also thought maybe the direct sunlight from my west windows or the grow lights in my cabinet were too much as I noticed reddening of some leaf edges. so I’ve moved them to just to the side of the west window where they get more indirect light. Another one is sitting further back in the room getting indirect light from the same window.(Didn’t really expect change here, just worth mentioning for context)

  4. I’ve started watering a little more frequently and adding 1/4tsp per gallon of superthrive foliage pro to the water. In case it was root stress from infrequent watering or a nutrient deficiency. This is new as of this spring/early summer.

At this point, I have 3 of these bad bois all experiencing these issues, plus one I gave to my mom last month that also has these issues still. I’ve tried both letting the leaves fall off naturally or trimming when they show these symptoms. I don’t know if this is just normal drop of older leaves, environmental conditions, or pest related. I treat all my plants with systemic granules when I repot just in case, and occasionally microbe lift bmc at a few drops to a gallon for all my plants if I start noticing fungus gnats from new plants still in their settling in phase. It seems like this happens to a lot of lower leaves and if i removed them, the plants would look like leggy sparse little trees. I wish to make them happier and more full and healthy looking than they are. Any guidance and education is very much appreciated❤️

Just a small pilea...

Uppotted this monstrosity last year to a 12inch and split her up for friends and clients. Looks like we're just about ready for another split.

Shiny vs Flat

My first pilea, I’ve had it for about a month. It is still in its original pot and I’ve only topped off the soil when I first got it because it was shallow and loose in its pot. I did have 2 stems I trimmed at the base that were broken to prevent it from rotting.

Babies have been growing but I wanted to ask about the leaves…

The larger leaves are dull or flat. I thought it was hard water stains but could not clean them off. New leaves are coming in shiny.

Does leaf dullness or shine mean anything for the plant health wise?

(I think this cover pot is too low now that new leaves are coming in at the base so I’ll be looking to change it.)

TIA!

pilea progress

First image is when I first took it home and potted it up. A friend of mine gave me one of her pups. Second image is how she looks today. It hasn't been that long so I'm surprised with how quickly she's perked up and grown.

What am i doing wrong?

Hi! I’m a new plant owner, just started a few months ago. I’ve had this guy for about 1.5 months and am not sure how to take care of him.

I have this plant on a shelf across from a big glass door and windows, and water it every 2 weeks roughly. I water from the top - should i be doing it differently? What do the leaves curling mean? Appreciate any help! 😄

Any tips??

I have had these two for almost 6 years now. They have not really been doing well lately. Leaves are curled and discolored. Any ideas on how to help these guys? Thanks so much!!
