Not the demographic I intended

Is it safe for the frogs if this cat drinks from the pond? It’s a stray that we are trying to catch with the help of a local rescue. So far, he/she is evading capture. I did put a separate water bin out to try to encourage it to drink from that instead.

Wound or disease on willow oak

Southeastern Virginia, USA. Can anyone help me identify what’s going on with my willow oak? Canopy looks healthy. No browning or falling leaves. Growing vigorously as always. Not sure what is going on but this tree is very special and if there’s something I need to do to prevent its death I want to do whatever I can.

Whether or not to cut back persimmon

Husband got an American persimmon for 50% off because it wasn’t looking great. It was in a 3 gallon nursery pot that was about half filled with roots. Tree is about 5’8”. Lots of leaf curl. He got it planted today and we were thinking it might be good to reduce the height since it didn’t have a very substantial root system. I was thinking of reducing it back to the first set of branches, about 3’. Looking for some advice on if we should do that and if so, should we do it now or give it some time in the ground? We hate to see a good native fruit tree go to waste and want to give it the best chance for success. Any and all advice welcome. We still have a lot to learn.

Located in southeastern Virginia, USA. There are several located around a mature willow oak that is maybe 20-25 years old. We have lived here for 15 years and these would be the first baby willow oaks we have seen! I’d like to relocate them to other areas of the property if so because they are such wonderful shade trees!
