• Experience: Former XC/Track (mid-pack) in school. Multi-year hiatus until 2025.

• Current PBs:
• 5k: 19:53 (Time trial, Summer 2025)
• 10k: 44:04 (Tempo effort during training)
• HM: 1:35:09 (Solo time trial, Sept 2025)
• Marathon: 3:19:30 (May 2026)

The Journey:

  1. Spring 2025: 4:02. Zero structured training, couch to marathon. Ran in Adidas Evo SLs. Cramped at 32km, lost four toenails, and walk-ran the finish.

  2. Fall 2025: 3:36. Used an AI-generated plan. Mileage: 70–90km/week. Cramped again at 28km.

  3. Spring 2026 (3 days ago): 3:19. Mileage: 70–100km/week. Focused heavily on salt tabs and strict adherence to the plan. Zero cramps, finished strong, but felt I left some time on the table due to "cramp-induced PTSD."

The Goal:
Sub-3:00 to qualify for Boston. I have roughly 23 weeks until my next goal race on October 18, 2026.

The Question:
I’m addicted to the progress and want to be smart about the next block. Should I:

  1. Focus on a Speed Block: Spend the next 12 weeks dropping my 5k/10k/HM floors, followed by a 6-week marathon-specific build?

  2. Focus on Volume: Jump into a high-mileage plan like Pfitzinger 18/85? I’m considering 140km (85+ miles) weeks, but I’m unsure if that’s too aggressive.

Previous Training Structure:
• Mon: Recovery | Tue: Easy | Wed: Intervals | Thu: Rest | Fri: Easy | Sat: Easy | Sun: Long Run

Would love your thoughts on whether I need multiple cycles to bridge this gap or if a monster volume block is the answer.

Looking to build a 3-shoe rotation using Chinese brands and would love some input from anyone who’s tried them.

Current lineup: Superblast 2, Vomero Plus, Cielo X1 3.0, Adios Pro 4

I’m not replacing these, just want to experiment with a new rotation and see what the hype is about.

Stats / Goals:

PBs: 5K – 19:30 | 10K – 42:00 | HM – 1:31 | Marathon – 3:15

Goal: sub-3 marathon within a year

Upcoming focus: 5K/10K speed block this summer

Targets: sub-18 (5K), sub-38 (10K), sub-1:34 HM

5’11”, 175 lbs

Currently considering:

Dynafish Xianao

Li-Ning Challenger 5 / 6

Li-Ning Feidian Elite 5 / 6

Li-Ning Ultra Hare 8 / 9

I can get these pretty cheap on Taobao (Canada), so figured it’s a good chance to test them out.

If you were starting fresh and picking 3 shoes for:

speed workouts / intervals

tempo / threshold

long runs (and eventually marathon training)

Which 3 would you choose and why?
