How do I get accomodation in London?!

Hi all,

Got a dream job and moving to London mid July. I am working around 5 mins walk from Kings Cross, budget is around £800PM MAX. I am happy to flat share. 25YO Male.

A) Is spare room the best way to go?

B) given the location, where should I be living? Islington has came to mind?

C) Do I have to get an AirBnB for first month and then view in person? How should I go about this? Very stressed and don’t know what to do!

All advice really appreciated

Rockmount/Chalkey

I’m sure we have all seen the alleged video of Eoin Murphy, sly punching U17 Irish International Brody Lee, and spitting in the face of Cork U20 GK.

In Wales, a similar incident went viral at a similar level and the guy got a 18 month suspended sentence for assault.

I seen this guy play recently and he is a bloody psycho. Verbally abusing his own manager (they did nothing), and this video doesn’t surprise me.

This discourse around him is that he does this sort of stuff a lot. A real cowards act, a shame cause he has terrific ability and has represented Ireland at amateur level.

What is Rockmount’s next move - will they put out a statement - is this the end for Chalkey?

Am I being too harsh?

Recruiter said I’d hear back “early next week” after final stage — good sign?

Had a final stage interview + task for a role recently and trying not to overthink the timeline now.

Applied a few weeks ago, had an initial recruiter call, then 2 interviews, and a final round interview in person (I had to fly to a different country for it) and submitted a written task after. At the end of the process they said I’d hear back “early next week.” I finished the interview on Thursday of last week.

One thing the recruiter asked me was whether I had any other offers currently, the company had put in this ask on Thursday afternoon. I answered honestly and said I didn’t, but that I was really keen on this role and wanted to see how it played out before pursuing anything else.

It’s Monday now and I haven’t heard anything yet, which I know is probably normal, but curious how people would read this overall? Especially the “do you have other offers” question, is that usually a positive sign or pretty standard? WHAT DO I DO? I AM SO IMPATIENT.

Hi all,

I’m moving from Dublin to London soon to start a new job, with the office based in Islington. I’ll be flat sharing and don’t know too many people in the city yet, so just looking for any advice from people who’ve made a similar move or live around the area.

A few things I’d really appreciate tips on:

  • Living in/around Islington – good areas to look for house shares, anything to avoid, general vibe?
  • Travel – best way to commute (Oyster vs contactless, buses vs tube, etc.), and any hacks to save money
  • Saving money – London is obviously expensive, so any habits, apps, or tricks that actually make a difference would be great
  • Shopping/food – affordable supermarkets, meal prep tips, decent takeaway spots that won’t destroy the bank account
  • Socialising (big one) – I’m into football and would love to meet people through that or just generally make friends. Any recommendations for 5-a-side leagues, casual kickabouts, pubs, or ways to meet people would be class

Open to any other general advice as well, things you wish you knew before moving, mistakes to avoid, etc.

Cheers!
