MacBook touchpad not working! Need help

My MacBook Air M4 fell from about 2 feet onto the floor.

Since then:

  • Keyboard works normally.
  • Display is fine.
  • macOS boots normally.
  • I can navigate using the keyboard.
  • Built-in trackpad does not move the cursor at all.
  • The trackpad is also unresponsive in Startup Options and macOS Recovery.
  • The issue started immediately after the fall.
  • No visible external damage to the laptop.

I don’t currently have an external mouse to test with.

Has anyone experienced something similar on an Apple Silicon MacBook? Does this sound more like:

  1. A loose trackpad ribbon cable/connector?
  2. A failed trackpad assembly?
  3. Logic board damage?

If you’ve had this repaired, what was the fix and roughly how much did it cost?

Any troubleshooting steps I can try using only the keyboard would also be appreciated.
