Bangalore felt lonely at first. So I started inviting strangers for treks.

Around a year back, I used to spend most of my weekends trekking alone around Bangalore.

I wasn’t trying to build a community or start anything big. I just genuinely loved exploring hills, especially the offbeat ones where there are no crowds, no noise and sometimes not even proper trails 😭

A lot of weekends were just me randomly searching for hidden hills, talking to locals, getting lost halfway, finding sunrise spots and coming back home tired but peaceful.

One day I randomly thought:

instead of doing this alone every weekend, why not ask if some strangers from Reddit would like to join too?

That’s literally how all this started.

In the beginning we were just 5–6 people going on bikes to random hills around Bangalore.

Then came the carpool phase where car owners used to disappear the night before treks with legendary excuses 😂

Eventually we shifted to Travellers.

And honestly somewhere along the way this stopped becoming just about trekking.

People who joined alone started becoming friends.

Random strangers started sharing life stories during 3AM Traveler rides.

Awkward introductions slowly turned into inside jokes, mafia games, tea stop conversations and weekend memories.

The craziest part is…

today that one random WhatsApp group somehow crossed 1000 people.

And what I love most is that most of our hikes are still the same raw offbeat trails around Bangalore & beyond.

Many times it’s literally just our group on the entire hill watching the sunrise.

No commercial crowd.

No tourist chaos.

Just mountains, sleepy faces, random conversations and good people 💛

Honestly never expected one random Reddit post and a love for trekking to turn into this.

Bangalore can feel weirdly lonely sometimes, especially when you move here alone.

I think maybe that’s why this community slowly became special for many of us.

Strangers walking into a trek and leaving with memories, friendships and stories was probably never something I planned.

But I’m grateful it happened.

If anyone here loves offbeat hikes, adventure or just wants to meet good people and escape city routine once in a while, you’re always welcome to join us ⛰️💛>!!<

Mulyangiri(Complete Raw)

Just finished a short but raw trek up to Mullayanagiri Peak. For those who don't know, it's the highest peak in Karnataka, sitting at around 6,300 feet.

I started right from the base, and it was a short hike—barely 30 minutes to get up there. The views along the way are truly incredible. I would highly suggest people actually walk the trail instead of taking a jeep up; you miss out on so much of the experience if you drive.

Once I reached the base of the main stairs leading up to the peak, we decided to take a detour. There is a side trail that loops completely around the staircase. It takes you to the opposite side of the mountain and offers a stunning, panoramic view that most people completely miss.

It was incredibly soothing and fun, mostly because the trail was pretty much empty. I only ran into two other people on the way, and I made sure to suggest the side trail to them, too. If you're planning a visit, skip the stairs and find the side path!

First time easy trek suggestions

Hello everyone, I am new to Bangalore and fairly anti social given I have no friends here. I am 25F and I wish to explore first time trekking easy destinations. My current fitness level isn’t the best as I am out of exercise and I’d say my legs are fairly weak, and poor my stamina.

I want to put myself out there and go for a trek. I’d appreciate some help regarding where should I begin and which tours and operators I should check out that conduct beginner level treks.

Thank you!

Looking for People/Groups for Kudremukh or Netravati Trek (June 14–20)

Hey, I’m planning a solo trip around Chikmagalur/Sringeri between June 14–20 and wanted to do either Kudremukh trek or Netravati Peak trek (or both if possible).

Since hiring a guide for solo gets expensive, I wanted to know:

\- if there are any groups I can join during those dates

\- or if anyone else is planning these treks and would like to join together

I’m flexible with dates between June 14–20 and okay with either trek on any day depending on weather/group availability.

Would appreciate any leads, trek groups, or fellow travelers :)

Is Skandagiri closed on May 17 th due to some Bear spottings..

I saw a Reddit post about the same saying it’s been cancelled. Tried calling multiple forest department helpline numbers, but no one seems to have any clear information yet.

Is anyone here planning to go tomorrow or has any confirmed updates?

Our tickets are already booked, and we’re also unsure about the refund policy in case it gets cancelled.

Please share any updates, official information, or contact numbers if you have them.

Also, trek leads from different groups might have some insider updates regarding permissions or ground situation. Please check with them as well and let everyone know.

Bear Attack in Skandagiri

I booked a trek for today from Namma Trip. The trip got cancelled last moment saying bear attack in Skandagiri caused forest officials to close the trek for today.

I don't see any news online, even on website. Is it true? If someone else's going today please let me know.

All Treks closed for this Sunday

We had booked our Kaiwara Betta trek for this Sunday, but received a call today informing us that it has been cancelled. When we followed up for more details, they mentioned that all treks around Bangalore have been temporarily closed due to recent human–wildlife conflict concerns.

Selling Trek Voucher from Bikat Adventures

Hi everyone,

I have an unused Bikat Adventures voucher worth ₹19,587 that I’m looking to sell.

The original trek was cancelled last year due to the war situation, and Bikat issued this voucher instead of a refund. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to use it and don’t see myself trekking anytime soon.

Voucher Details:
Voucher Value: ₹19,587
Valid Till: 13 May 2027
Status: Unused

GST already paid separately (₹924) — using the voucher should not attract GST again

Can be used for booking treks with Bikat Adventures.
If interested, please DM.

Strangers from Reddit, Ended up becoming a Survival Team in Krishnagiri Forest🏔️

What started with a single post and a few strangers from this subreddit has now grown into a community of thousands exploring together across weekends.

This weekend hike was one of the craziest ones till date.

No trails. No guides. No routes on maps.
Just strangers from this subreddit pushing through thorny shrubs, clearing paths with our own hands, navigating through dense terrain, discovering forgotten ruins, and finding our own route to the peak.

At multiple points, we genuinely didn’t know whether a route even existed ahead of us but somehow everyone kept going.

This wasn’t a normal “weekend trek.” It felt like real exploration, chaos, teamwork, adventure, and memories with complete strangers who slowly became friends midway through the hike.

If you’re someone sitting at home every weekend wanting to explore more, meet new people, and experience adventures beyond cafés and malls DM me to Join us on our next Adventure.

Thought this trip would be average, ended up becoming one of our favourite memories

Started as a random plan with almost no expectations and somehow turned into one of those trips we still keep talking about 😭 Sleepless bus rides, random food stops, getting lost twice, taking way too many pictures and somehow bonding with strangers over the dumbest things.Made us realise most travel memories are never really about perfect itineraries, it’s always the random moments in between.
That’s honestly one of the reasons we started
r/gjexperiences too.
Wanted to build a small space where people could share travel stories, hidden spots, chaotic moments and random experiences like these
