We left Bangalore at midnight just to make coffee on top of a mountain

This morning, a bunch of Redditors left Bangalore around midnight with one simple plan reach the top of Nijagal Betta before sunrise.

None of us expected the best part of the trek to have nothing to do with the sunrise.

Somewhere on the hill, we stopped and brewed fresh filter coffee. Sitting on ancient fort ruins, passing around hot cups while the wind was blowing… that honestly became everyone’s favourite memory.

Then came Maggi on the hilltop, exploring caves and old fort walls, watching the first light slowly spread across the landscape, and spending hours with people who had been complete strangers just a few hours earlier.

By the time we got back to Bangalore, it didn’t feel like we’d attended a trek. It felt like we’d made a bunch of new friends.

That’s exactly why I started this trekking community. The goal isn’t to tick off famous places it’s to create weekends that people genuinely remember.

A community for people who get excited about discovering forgotten trails, hidden forts, offbeat places, spontaneous road trips, sunrise hikes, and the feeling of not knowing exactly what’s waiting around the next bend.

If you’re someone whose weekends are driven by curiosity rather than comfort, you’d fit right in.

DM to Join our community where we plan these adventures together.

Just a bunch of people who believe weekends should create stories worth telling.

Valley of flowers trek - Any good trekking company suggestions?

Hey, the trek is finally making out of the group chat. Any good trekking companies? We are looking for one, solely because of the potential landslide dangers. We feel it would be safer with a company as they will know what to do.

Any suggestions? Should we bite the bullet and pay 12k with India hikes?

Is this a good time to go on a netravati trek?

Hi guys,

We're a group of 4 friends and we've decided to have our first trekking experience this month end so I wanted to ask some questions.

Is july/aug a good time to go? Both crowd wise and views aswell

what's the best way to get tickets, I've checked the Aranya vihara website at 12 am and the moment it loads, all 300 passes are gone (is it because it's july/aug?)

How much does the stay cost and where is the best way to stay?

Thanks.

Looking for a few adventure-loving people for a 2D/1N Chikmagalur trekking trip from Bangalore 🥾

Hey everyone ( BLR people ) !

I'm planning a 2 Days / 1 Night trekking trip to the Chikmagalur region and thought it'd be fun to have a few like-minded people join instead of going solo.

The rough plan is:

📍 Meet: Friday night around Indiranagar, Bangalore

🚗 I'll be taking my own vehicle, so others can either carpool (depending on available seats) or bring their own vehicle and we can travel together.

Over the weekend we'll be exploring some amazing trails, sunrise viewpoints, waterfalls, and hidden spots around Chikmagalur.

The trip will include:

  • 🥾 Trekking & outdoor adventure
  • 🍛 Meals
  • 🏡 Stay for one night
  • 🌄 Exploring lesser-known trails
  • 🤝 A new adventure buddy who's already familiar with the route

We'll most likely be back by Sunday night, with Monday morning as a buffer if plans run a little late.

Looking for people who are:

  • Open-minded and easy to get along with
  • Comfortable with moderate trekking
  • More interested in experiences than luxury
  • Happy to split expenses fairly

This isn't a commercial tour or travel company event—just a few strangers coming together for an adventure.

If this sounds like your kind of weekend, leave a comment or send me a DM. Happy to share more details and see if we're a good fit before finalizing anything!

A DIY hiking community for discovering trails beyond the usual spots

I've been hiking around Bengaluru for a while now, and one thing has always bothered me.

Most discussions revolve around the same handful of popular trails or organised weekend treks. But Karnataka has so many lesser-known hills, forts, forest trails, and village routes that are scattered across personal blogs, YouTube videos, GPX files, and old forum posts.

While looking at hiking communities around the world, I came across the Washington Trails Association (WTA). Their community-driven trail database inspired me to build something similar for our region.

So I built Bengaluru Trails.

The goal is to create a DIY, open trails community where anyone can:

  • Discover trails beyond the usual weekend destinations.
  • Access detailed trail information and GPX routes.
  • Confidently plan hikes without depending on an organised trekking group.
  • Submit new trails and improve existing ones.
  • Share trail conditions, wildlife sightings, and route updates.

This isn't meant to replace trekking organisations. They play an important role in introducing people to the outdoors.

Instead, this is for people who enjoy exploring on their own or with friends and want a reliable, community-maintained resource for hiking around Bengaluru and Karnataka.

There's also a WhatsApp community where members discuss trail conditions, discover new hikes, share GPX tracks, and help each other explore responsibly.

I'd genuinely love feedback from this community.

  • What features would you like to see?
  • Which trails are missing?
  • Would you be interested in contributing trail information or GPX files?

Since this subreddit doesn't allow links, I haven't included the website here. If you'd like to check it out or join the community, send me a DM and I'll share the website and WhatsApp community link.

My hope is that, over time, this becomes a resource built by the hiking community, for the hiking community.

Anyone wants to tag along for a trek to the Bandaje Waterfalls Trek this weekend? (3rd July- 5th July)

Hey folks! I am going for the Bandaje Waterfalls Trek this weekend (3rd Jul- 5th Jul) with the wildspirit voyages group. I was supposed to go with a friend, but they noped out due to bad health at the last moment.

Would anyone want to go in his stead with me?

The itinerary for the trip is attached in the post. Hoping to find a hike buddy!

Anyone interested to hike up Nijagal Betta on 4th July?

Hey! I'm Bhushan. A couple of friends and I go on day hikes around Bangalore fairly often, and we'd rather do them with a few more people than keep it to ourselves.

We hiked up Nijagal Betta a couple of weeks back and we're doing it again on July 4th with a few more friends.

It's a hill fort about 55 km out from Bangalore on Tumkur Road. An easy hike, a short steep rocky stretch near the top, old fort ruins, and a good view of Shivagange at sunrise. We are planning to start around 5 from Bangalore and arrange for packed breakfast to have at the summit. Genuinely a good first trek if you've never done one.

Transport is either a tempo traveller or carpooling depending on numbers. We run these cost-sharing, so we just split fuel or the vehicle and the breakfast cost.

Full disclosure, I do run a small trekking outfit, but this isn't that, it's a personal thing a few of us do on the side. I like the outdoors and helping people new to it get their first few hikes in.

Up for it? DM me and I'll loop you in.

Most treks are closed this weekend. Nijagal Betta isn’t. ⛰️

With permit restrictions affecting several popular treks around Bangalore this weekend, we thought we’d invite fellow Redditors to join us instead.

We’re heading to Nijagal Betta this Sunday for a sunrise trek. If you’ve never been there, it’s one of the most rewarding sunrise hikes near Bangalore, with rocky trails, ancient fort ruins, caves, a Hanuman temple, a Dargah, and panoramic views from the summit.

A quick overview:
📅 Date: Sunday, 5th July
📍 Destination: Nijagal Betta (~60 km from Bangalore)
🥾 Difficulty: Easy (Beginner-friendly)
📏 Distance: ~4 km (round trip)
⏱️ Duration: ~3 hours

Most people who join us come solo, so don’t worry if you’re coming alone. We trek as one group, nobody gets left behind, and the conversations during the drive are usually as memorable as the trek itself.

If your weekend plans got cancelled because of the permit restrictions or you’re simply looking to spend your Sunday outdoors instead of indoors we’d love to have you join us.

DM for Registration & WhatsApp Community links for future hikes

Happy to answer any questions in the comments. Hope to see a few fellow Redditors on Sunday! 😊

Looking for affordable homestay near Kudremukha Trek

Hi everyone,
A group of us are planning to do the Kudremukha trek and are looking for budget-friendly homestays nearby.

We’ll have our own car, so staying within about 20–30 minutes driving distance from the trek starting point is totally fine. Clean rooms, decent food, and parking availability would be preferred.

Any recommendations based on your experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Feel free to drop location/Homestay name/ Number

Anyone interested in Savanadurga trek this Saturday?

I’m planning to head to Savanadurga for a trek this coming Saturday and would love some company. Looking to pull together a small group of people who want to tag along. Just to be clear—I’m not a host or a tour organiser, so we will all need to sort out our own transport. Let me know if you're interested and we can figure out the details together!

Building a platform for trekkers. Looking for honest feedback.

Hi everyone,

Over the past few months, I've been building a platform called Pahad Paglu for the trekking community.

The idea came from a problem I kept facing while planning treks—information was scattered across operator websites, blogs, YouTube videos, Reddit posts, and WhatsApp groups.

So I started building one place where trekkers can:

🏔️ Discover treks across India

⚖️ Compare treks and operators

⭐ Share honest trek reviews

📸 Upload trek photos

✍️ Publish trekking stories and blogs

📖 Explore mountain history, myths, and local legends

The website has just gone live, and it's still very much a work in progress.

I'm not looking to sell anything. I'm looking for trekkers who are willing to explore the platform, point out what's missing, and help shape it into something genuinely useful.

If you've got a few minutes, I'd really appreciate your feedback.

If you've completed a trek, I'd also love for you to add a review, share your experience, or publish a story. The goal is to build a platform that's driven by the trekking community itself.

Any feedback—good or bad—is welcome.

Need Proper Iterinary for Netravathi/Kudremukha Trek from Experienced Folks.

Hi Guys,

I'm planning for a netravathi trek or one to Kudremukha. 🌳⛰️

Please let me know which one is more scenic and exciting. Also I'll be heading out with a couple of friends so probably it'll be 4-5 of us in total.

Experienced folks please share details on how to head over , where to stay and what to cover with a cost breakdown if possible.

Thanks in advance.

Note: I prefer not going with agencies. Prefer KSRTC for transport.

Why is there no IMDb for trekking?

Every time I plan a trek, I end up opening 10 different websites.

One operator says it's "easy."

Another says it's "moderate."

One says the altitude is 12,000 ft, another says 13,500 ft.

Then I have to search Reddit for real experiences because I don't know which information to trust.

It made me wonder...

Why isn't there a single platform where trekkers can:

Compare treks side by side

Read genuine trek reviews

Discover the history, myths, and stories behind mountains

See real community photos instead of only promotional images

That's exactly what I'm building with Pahad Paglu.

It's still in the early stages, and I'd rather build it with feedback from trekkers than guess what people want.

If you could add one feature to your ideal trekking platform, what would it be?

I'd genuinely like to hear your thoughts.

Nammatrip or Tripbae or any other organisers for overnight trips ?

I see these are the only two affordable organizers for treks. The rest are bit expensive.

Nammatrip was my first and they didn't even play music during the ride or did any socialisation stuff. I thought that was the norm. Next time i tried tripbae and it was a completely different experience.

Are there any other organisers which are affordable and more fun for overnight treks ? How is your experience ?

Planning to go to makalidurga this weekend alone so trying to decide which one to choose.
